1 HOW TO ORDER SWIVEL JOINTS Emco Wheaton offers a wide variety of swivel joints to fit almost any application. In order to assist you in ordering the Correct swivel joint, we have developed a guideline that explains all of the information that we require to specify a Swivel joint. 1. STYLE: The first step in ordering a swivel joint is to determine what style you need. The swivel joint industry has developed a common listing for swivel joint styles, which are determined by the number of swivels and elbows in the assembly. S20 S30 S40 S50 S60 S70 S10 S80 2. TYPE: Emco Wheaton offers standard types of swivel joint; The D2000 World Series Swivel, the D2001 Split Flange Swivel, and the D0116 O-Ring Swivel (Aluminum Only). 5. INLET CONNECTION: This refers to any connection fitting attached to the inlet end of the swivel. Basic swivels include buttweld end connections. 6. OUTLET CONNECTION: Same as above, except for the outlet connection of the swivel. D2000 D2001 D SIZE: Emco Wheaton offers swivel joints that range in size from BODY MATERIAL: Our basic offering of swivel joint materials include Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, and Aluminum. Should product or temperature compatibility require a different material, we are experienced in producing swivel joints in a variety of exotic materials. 7. SEAL MATERIAL: Our basic offering of seal materials includes Buna, Viton, and PTFE. Should product or temperature compatibility require it, different materials are available. 8. APPLICATION INFORMATION: Please supply the following information, which will allow us to assure that the swivel joint you are ordering is ideal for your specific application. 5 D2000 SWIVEL JOINT PARTS BREAKDOWN * Always support the outboard weight of the swivel joint with a crane or lifting device while performing the following steps: 1. Remove the flange screws and separate the swivel joint at the split flange. Note: You can change the seal from either side on the D2000 swivel, but it is only necessary to remove one of the flanges. 2. Remove the seal set (it is recommended to replace the PTFE seal carrier and O-Rings). Caution: Be careful not to scratch seal surfaces. 3. Flush seal surfaces with solvent to remove any grit that may be present. If necessary, Emory paper (320 grit or finer) can be used to polish the surface. 4. Insert the new seal set into the swivel joint. 5. Realign flange and initialize the threads on the screws. Once all screws have been started, completely tighten in alternating fashion. The torque requirement is 15 ft. lbs. on screws. Attention: D2000 swivel joints do not require field greasing for 5 years To determine when your swivel joint will require greasing, please consult the date stamp on the loading arm tag. Five years from the date of manufacture, the limited warranty on the swivel expires. You can either: 1. Replace the bearing module and receive a new five year warranty. Or 2. Purchase a field greasing Kit. (Details at right) D2000 Field Greasing Kits Kit includes: Ball retaining screw with zirc fitting Tube of grease consult the loading arm tag for the appropriate grease. Greasing Instructions Each kit contains enough grease to completely grease one swivel. Remove the existing ball retaining screw and replace with the zirc fitting screw. Grease the swivel taking care to rotate the swivel as much as possible after each injection. D2000 Parts REV 4/03

7 D2001 SPLIT FLANGE SWIVEL JOINT PARTS BREAKDOWN Support the outboard weight of the swivel joint with crane or lifting device while performing the following steps. 1. Remove the 8 flange screws separate the swivel joint at the split flange. 2. Carefully remove the spring energized seal. (Caution: Do not scratch seal surface) After removal, separate support ring from interior of seal for use with replacement seal. (Note: PTFE variants do not have a support ring.) 3. Flush seal surfaces with solvent to remove any grit that may be present. If necessary, Emory paper (320 grit or finer) can be used to polish the surface. 4. Insert support ring into the interior of the seal and insert both into the recess of the body. 5. Realign flanges and initialize threads on all 8 screws. Once all have been started, completely tighten them in numerical order shown. Torque requirement is 15 ft. lbs. on screws. D2001 BREAKDOWN REV 3/02

9 D1070 V-RING SWIVEL JOINT PARTS BREAKDOWN 1. Remove the ball retainer screws and flush with solvent. Rotate sleeve, catching the balls with a magnet as they fall out. Pull sleeve from body, discard seals and clean unit. 6. Lubricate the entire body, including seals and seal adapter. 10. Carefully push sleeve into body. 2. Lubricate the seal surface at the rear of the body. 3. Insert the wave spring into the body so that the split in the spring is elevated from the seat in the body. 4. Next, insert one of the seal adapters with the flat side of the adapter against the wave spring. 7. Put the other seal adapter on the sleeve with the flat side against the seat on the sleeve. 8. Install the dust seal. 11. Feed the balls into the bearing raceway. Rotate the sleeve by hand to spread the balls around. If all the balls will not feed into the body, insert a screwdriver blade into the raceway, taking care not to damage the threads. Rotate the sleeve slowly in the opposite direction while dropping in the remaining balls. 5. Put the three seals into the body with the lip of the seals going in first, making sure all of the seals are on the seal surface. 9. Lubricate sleeve. 11. Screw in the ball retainer screw until tight. Back off 1 4 turn. (Make sure the last ball is centered in the hole.) Install grease fitting. Pressure test. Unit is now ready for operation. 12 D0116 O-RING SWIVEL JOINT PARTS BREAKDOWN 1. Remove ball retaining screws and flush with solvent. Rotate sleeve catching the balls with a magnet as they fall out. Pull sleeve from the body, discard seals, and clean unit. 2. Fit new dust seal onto the sleeve to the rear and insert the product seal into the body as shown. 3. Lube body and sleeve with grease. 4. Carefully insert sleeve into body, while turning. 5. Feed the balls into the bearing raceway. Rotate the sleeve by hand to spread the balls around. If all of the balls will not feed into the body, insert a screwdriver blade into the raceway, taking care not to damage the threads. Rotate the sleeve in one direction, pressing the balls toward one direction, then rotate the sleeve slowly in the opposite direction while dropping in the remainder. 6. Screw in the ball retainer screw until tight. Back off 1 4 turn. (Make sure the last ball bearing is centered in the hole.) Turn in another retainer screw to lock the first one in place.
