5. Data Service (Examples) Several value-added services such as internal memory, MCE, My pc solution are provided on USB dongle modem and customers can customize their own services on smartphone. Modem Service Smartphone Service 1 저장 Internal Memory Memory 기능확대 Function USB dongle modem has an internal memory of around 1 Giga bytes or an external memory slot which enables customers to expand memory of 1 to 8 Giga bytes. Users can customize their own services on smartphone which support both WCDMA and WiBro. Smartphone Display 2 MCE 1) 1) Solution 기능 ( ZPack ) 탑재 Customers can use various applications such as word processor or instant messenger without set-up on their computers using installed applications in the internal memory of each modem. 3 My PC Solution (Remote-Control) Application 탑재 Customers can control their PCs which are located in their homes or offices using My PC solution. Note 1: MCE - Mobile Computing Environment 6
6. Device Roadmap Several WiBro USB dongle modems were launched in 2008 and Smartphone and WiBro game device will be launched in WiBro Device Roadmap Modem of PCMCIA type Smarphone & Special Devices (e.g. Game Device) WiBro USB dongle supporting various value-added added services DBDM USB dongle supporting both WCDMA and WiBro 7
7. WiBro Coverage Expansion Plan WiBro Coverage Expansion is to disperse HSDPA Traffic and to sustain marketing competiveness so that Seoul and Metropolitan areas will be invested largely and additional Hot Zone will build up at local area including provincial seats WiBro Coverage Expansion Plan Expansion Direction HSDPA Traffic dispersion & Marketing base 1 2 Focusing on Seoul and Metropolitan area Additionally build up the Hot Zone into local including gprovincial seats Coverage Expansion Step 1 Secure the 2 Secure in-building/ terrestrial coverage subway QoS
II. WiBro Technology Trends 1. Network Evolution (4G) LTE, UMB, m, etc. are expected to be suggested as the candidate technology of 4G which will be standardized on 2010, and there is going to be the limitation of securing compatibility with current system because all of their technologies are based on OFDM Network Evolution Technology evolution by SDO DO r0 04 3GPP 05 3GPP2 WCDMA(R4) IEEE802 IMT WiMAX wave2 HSPA+ Expecting Candidate of IMT-Advanced m LTE UMB Speed 100M 50M 25M WiMAX HSD(U)PA 3xDO(rB) 14.4M DO ra Enhanced IMT-2000 Compatible Incompatible IMT-Advanced 5.8M 3M 2M 384k Emerging IMT-Advanced Technology The technologies like LTE, UMB, m are become IMT-Advanced candidate technology according to ITU-R schedule High-Speed Transmission: More than 100Mbps (Max.) The transmitting speed and capability of LTE, UMB, m are expected to be similar. The difference of transmitting speed of suggested technology by SDO is because of the difference of applying plan for MIMO technology The limitation of compatibility with the current system Synchronous, Asynchronous, N/W have some limitations of compatibility with the system - CDMA, WCDMA vs. OFDMA 802,16m has the compatibility with WiMAX, but it is unclear to be standardized. WRC : World Radio Conference, SDO : Standard Development Organization, LTE : Long Term Evolution, UMB : Ultra Mobile Broadband 9
II. WiBro Technology Trends 2. WiBro Wave 2 & H/O Solution There is a progress to import of WiBro wave 2 system tool, HSDPA N/W, and H/O solution upgraded compare to 08 current system. Wave2 Main Feature Developing HSDPA N/W and H/O Solution MIMO Beam Forming Band AMC Effective CINR Increasing Data Throughput by Developing interworking support solution using 2 transmitting tt parts between WiBro and HSDPA for dispersing Improvement of quality by strengthening the direction electric wave power with the use of Smart Antenna CINR* allocates the specified range as a Band type to the fixed H/S with good condition Improvement of the accuracy of H/S CINR F/B HSDPA Traffic -1 st Stage (~ End of 07) : Developing the transmitting function of overlay information at the boundary section of Cell -2 nd Stage (~End of 08) : Developing the handset and server of MIH by using Mobile IP Hot Zone HSDPA MBS Offering Mobile Broadcasting Svc. WiBro HSDPA MIMO: Multi Input-Multi Output, Band AMC:Band Adaptive Modulation & Cording, Effective e CINR: Effective e Carrier to Interference e e & Noise Ratio, MBS: Mobile Broadcast Service AP Type RAS (WiBro) MIH: Media Independent Handover HSDPA 10
II. WiBro Technology Trends 3. Distribution trend of Global Mobile WiMAX frequency The frequency of global mobile WiMAX is mainly allocated between 2.3 and 2.5GHz range, and allocating the frequency at 3.5GHz range for the fixed type of WiMAX Network Evolution Regional status of WiMAX frequency allocation Worldwide BWA/WiMAX Deployments North America & Asia There will be allocating the frequency 2.3 and 2.5GHz for Mobile WiMAX Use Europe There is an argument about the opening of frequency 2.3 ~ 2.5GHz South America Fixed type 3.5GHz frequency allocation is on progress Source: WiMAXCounts.com 11
