Horstmann GmbH The SMART NAVIGATOR is an Overhead Faulted Circuit Indicator that is designed and engineered for Smart Grid Distribution Automation applications. The SMART NAVIGATOR is installed on Overhead Distribution Circuits and transmits event based fault information in addition to continuous circuit status information. The SMART NAVIGATOR is integrated into an existing Smart Grid system and can operate in different WAN environments such as cellular, radio, etc. A pole mounted Sensus NaviComm RTU with an integrated SMART CONTROLLER acts as a WAN access point. The SMART NAVIGATOR detects fault current in the same manner as the stand-alone Navigator-LM Overhead Indicator. The feature of load leveling with load memory enables the unit to automatically set the fault trip threshold in relation to peak load current. Once the unit identifies fault current above its trip rating threshold, the SMART NAVIGATOR sends a signal to the SMART CONTROLLER located in the NaviComm RTU. Local indication is provided by a bright red flashing LED. Several combinations of reset methods are available including current, time and manual. In addition to event based fault identification, the SMART NAVIGA- TOR also can report fault data, load current, temperature and status data. Sensus PowerVista software enables real-time access to all data from any PC using a standard browser by logging onto a secure account created and maintained for each customer. PowerVista can be hosted by Telemetric or located in a customer s data center. 4 DS-E-NAV-0211 NaviComm Description Sensus Distribution Automation (DA) has partnered with Horstmann to develop the NaviComm system, a selfcontained communicating faulted circuit indictor (FCI) solution for overhead distribution lines. The NaviComm system is an integrated FCI receiver and communications unit that monitors and controls up to 12 Horstmann Smart Navigator wireless faulted circuit indicators which provide fault current magnitude and load metrics. Its unique load monitoring and reporting capabilities give utilities access to critical operational and planning information in real-time along with traditional fault indication. The NaviComm system communicates using GSM cellular networks or Sensus FlexNet TM private networks. Features APPLICATIONS The NaviComm system is ideally suited for smart grid distribution automation applications on overhead distribution lines. A NaviComm system provides the ability to monitor and control Smart Navigator faulted circuit indicators. Fault information is delivered to utility SCADA or Outage Management Systems using DNP 3.0/IEEE 1815 protocol. Distribution engineers, planners and field technicians can simultaneously receive the same information directly from the Sensus PowerVista application via text message, or pagers. Additional information can be obtained from the PowerVista application using a standard PC browser. FlexNet enabled models incorporate all of the standard system security features. Cellular models use standard cellular authentication and encryption which is augmented with additional security features from Sensus. Sensus DA provides the end-toend communication link via secure, private connections to leading cellular carriers in North America so the product works out of the box anywhere within the extensive North American coverage area. No license or local cellular account is required. FlexNet system enabled models also work out of the box on FlexNet systems.
