Introduction Problem Statement Methodology Result Discussion Future Improvement System to record attendance of Warga Nuklear Malaysia to official conference or seminar of Nuklear Malaysia Paperless approach Statistic shown the needs are growing (As of August 2014, 249 uniques attendance session recorded) E attendance session usage by year Current E-Attendance, and Lightweight e-attendance Year 2009 Year 2010 Year 2011Session Year 2012 Year 2013 *Year 2014 Consist of two parts: i. client: card reader, laptop ii. Server: database, webserver kind of, a little bit. - We are looking for something light, t,and dsmall Probably cheaper, resourceful Maintain all the functionality and features of the system 1
2 Model A state-of-the-art single-board computer (SoC) nowadays credit card-sized SoC developed in the UK by the Foundation OS: Debian, Arch Linux ARM distributions Python as the main programming language As of February 2014, about 2.5 million boards had been sold Model B Model B+ Features: Broadcom BCM2835 SoC 700 MHz ARM1176JZF-S core CPU Broadcom VideoCore IV GPU 512 MB RAM 2 x USB2.0 Ports Video Out via Composite (PAL and NTSC), HDMI or Raw LCD (DSI) Audio Out via 3.5mm Jack or Audio over HDMI Storage: SD/MMC/SDIO 10/100 Ethernet (RJ45) Low-Level Peripherals: 8 x GPIO UART I2C bus SPI bus with two chip selects +3.3V +5V Ground Power Requirements: 700 ma via MicroUSB or GPIO Header Supports Debian GNU/Linux, Fedora, Arch Linux, RISC OS E-Attendance client is using a laptop: i. more power consumption, ii. bulky, iii. not fully utilized processor E-attendance client also low frequency of use (only when there is an event), so a dedicated laptop is wasted for other office use. E-attendance run on fat client E-attendance use a laptop that cost lots of $$$ A call for an alternative of laptop to reduce cost (money, resource) without loosing the functionality To encounter this, we need-> Something that is less than a laptop: i. low power consumption, ii. low price, iii. small/compact iv. Has all the features needed perhaps has all the necessary features i. client: card reader, raspberry pi ii. Server: database, webserver RM1,299 RM250 2

Performance Measurement Requirements on current e-attendance Map the requirement Prototype Design Prototype Performance Measurement Features on Module E-Attendance Requirement Input HID Omnikey 5125 card reader to capture ID on the proximity card used by Malaysian Nuclear Agency driver for installation MS supported Customized linux driver Python PyGame module External monitor Output An interface for real-time data capture input MS Visual Python PyGame Display Basic monitor Databas e Internal database should be able to store temporary data Internal database should connect to main database (MS SQL) MS SQL MySQL Network List of event and participant can be viewed using browser (connection to main database) DHCP protocol MySQL ODBC connector Before: Proximity Card HID 5112 Using RFID feature : Proximity Card HID 5112 Using smartcard feature Model, Prototype 3
4 Before: : Using MSSQL (Micro$oft) Using MySQL (Opensource) Using Screen Developed using M$ Visual Basic External HDMI display screen Developed using Python (PyGame Module) Before Using Wireless connection : Using Ethernet (Wireless module need dongle) Performance Measurement Linux environment is not easy to configure compare to Windows Driver for HID 5125 card reader in Linux is limited RFID cannot function MySQL has limited amount of field compared to MSSQL Wireless connection need additional wireless module USB port is limited issue catered on Type B+ Scanning Speed Practicality E-Attendance using Fast (<1.5 seconds) -Using RFID feature E-Attendance using Raspberry Pi Medium (<5 second) - Using SmartCard feature 4

E-Attendance using E-Attendance using 7 days (24 hours) Power Consumption High +-65Watt Low <2.5Watt[1] Outdoor Capability No (possible with cover) Cost comparison (price, resource) RM1,299 RM Ghz 700Mhz 2 GB RAM 512 MB RAM [1] It is possible that can be used to replace a PC (laptop) for e- Attendance A prototype design of e-attendance of successfully developed This prototype t can save a lot of cost, without t loosing major functionality The can be extended to used in many more system that require specific device-like functionality (e.g. Radiation monitoring, IP Camera, Access Control, robotic) Improve storage limitation (4Gb to 8 Gb) Wireless connection (Need wireless dongle) In-A-Box (Everything plug and play) 5
