3 1 IEther-00 overview The IEther-00 bundle contains the iether version B driver, which supports the following Gigabit Ethernet and combination adapter cards: PCIe Ethernet PCIe Ethernet Mezzanine PCIe combination adapter cards PCI-X Ethernet PCI-X combination adapter cards HP Integrity and HP 9000 server LOMs and core Ethernet I/O AD337A NC360m AD221A A7011A AB290A 1 rx AD338A NC364m AD222A A7012A AD193A rx AD339A AD393A AB545A AD194A rx AD331A rp44x0 3 AD332A rx For rp7440 and rx7640 servers, the AB290A is provided as the core I/O adapter. 2 LAN on Motherboard (LOM) 3 Core Ethernet I/O adapter (earlier versions of the server might have non-iether as core) 4 Core Ethernet I/O adapter rx rx Features For more information about installing a supported adapter, see the respective adapter installation guide at the following website: For more information about firmware requirements and how to obtain the latest firmware for your product, see Firmware requirements (page 6). The iether driver manages Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for both copper (1000Base-T) and fiber (1000Base-SX) links. The driver can support a variety of Ethernet technologies, including PCIe (PCI Express) and PCI-X Ethernet-only, and Ethernet/FC combination adapter cards. Some notable features provided by the iether driver include: Receive and transmit flow control Transmit and Receive Checksum Offload (CKO) for IPv4 Transmit TCP Segmentation Offload (TSO) for IPv4 Jumbo Frames Multicast and Promiscuous mode IPv6 IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging in hardware Interrupt migration Interrupt coalescing Link handling DLKM APA LM, aggregate, and failover modes 1 HP Serviceguard 1. APA aggregate mode is not supported with server blades over Virtual Connect interconnects. Virtual Connect does not support aggregates (trunks), LACP, or otherwise on the downlinks side. 1 IEther-00 overview 3

Table 1 HP-UX 11i v3 July 2013 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR QXCR : olrad -r/r might mask the first byte of the user defined MAC in specific scenarios The olrad -r/r operation masks the first byte of the user-defined MAC for commands such as the following: lanadmin a ppa nwmgr -g -A mac -c lanppa This results in linkloop connectivity issues. 4.2 Problems fixed in previous releases Table 2 HP-UX 11i v3 July 2013 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR QXCR Previous settings in nettlgen.conf are overwritten when a new version of the driver is installed. The installation script should not overwrite the entry if it's modified. PCIe AD393A GbE/FC adapter's GbE SX fiber ports down after updating IETHER to B and subsequent release. This issue is seen only with AD393A GbE/FC. 4

5 Table 3 HP-UX 11i v3 March 2013 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR On server blades with 2-port NC364m/ B21 and 4-port NC360m/ B21 PCIe mezzanine 1GbE, with APA aggregation configured on ports connected to an external switch, if a user changes the external switch status from UP to DOWN or vice versa, a system panic occurs. The following panic string is seen: 'wait_for_lock: Already owns lock: lan:iether_hw_lockp ' This occurs in rare circumstances and only on the specific noted. Table 4 HP-UX 11i v3 March 2013 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR Link timeout to PCIe device with Superdome 2 XFabric failover. This problem was reported on Superdome2 servers, involving PCIe dual-port LAN controller chips (AD221A, AD222A, and AD393A ). An error on the Superdome 2 XFabric link immediately causes a fabric failover from that link to the redundant path. Transmissions that were in process on the failing link are replayed along the redundant path. During Crossbar Fabric failovers, an I/O adapter could encounter a completion timeout (CTO) for transactions being transmitted at the instant of failover. In such a scenario, the adapter might be declared as defective although it is performing well. The CTO value on the affected I/O is not high enough to account for the XFabric failover time. Table 5 HP-UX 11i v3 December 2012 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR QXCR On multiple-cpu systems and a high-transmit load, the iether driver might cause intermittent system hangs or high CPU utilization. In addition, under these circumstances, systems with MC/Serviceguard might exhibit a cluster-reformation or system Transfer Of Control (TOC). Potentially poor network performance might be observed when operating the LAN adapter at 10Mb or 100Mb half-duplex. The following could be impacted: AD221A, AD222A, AD393A, and rx2800 LAN on Motherboard (LOM). Table 6 HP-UX 11i v3 October 2012 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR After a LAN adapter port is reset, the statistics reported might reveal a large number of Inbound Discards. Activity on the receive side might appear to be hung. The following LAN adapter products could be impacted: AD221A, AD222A, AD393A, and rx2800 core LAN-on-Motherboard (LOMs). 1 1 The rx2800 LAN interface is on the system motherboard. This LAN adapter appears in ioscan output as AH Table 7 HP-UX 11i v3 September 2012 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR QXCR False link status reported when NC360m or NC364m autonegotiation is OFF (Intel 82571mezzanine only). When autonegotiation is OFF for the NC360m or NC364m adapter, and the corresponding switch port is disabled, the LAN interface link status on the system side is displayed by nwmgr and lanadmin as UP. It should be displayed as DOWN. Link status detection delay with NC360m and NC364m PCIe Ethernet mezzanine server blade adapter (Intel 82571mezzanine only). When a link is down, there is a significant delay before the iether driver detects this and logs a nettl error. Reported delays range from 2 to 36 seconds. 4 Problems fixed in this or earlier versions 5

6 Table 8 HP-UX 11i v3 September 2012 fixes IEther-00 B QXCR System fails to produce a crash dump after a soft reset (TOC). This results because the iether driver crashes when initializing at the same time that the system is performing the TOC (transfer of control). 5 Known problems and limitations The following problems and limitations are known to exist in this release: Ethernet parameter restrictions For PCI and PCI-X LAN that use the iether driver, HP does not recommend changing the default values of the following four tunables. It has been found that certain combinations of these tunables (other than the default settings) could result in adapter hangs. send_max_bufs recv_max_bufs send_coal_ticks recv_coal_ticks These tunables are not supported with PCI-E that use the iether driver. 6 Compatibility and installation requirements This section describes the compatibility information and installation requirements for this release. For specific installation instructions, see the installation procedure or overview document for your adapter. For detailed information on supported server platforms, operating systems, and firmware level requirements, see the Ethernet Support Matrix. These documents are available at: Operating system and version compatibility This release is specific for HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31). 6.2 Hardware requirements This version of IEther-00 runs on HP Integrity and HP 9000 servers with the HP-UX 11i v3 (B.11.31) operating system. 6.3 Firmware requirements IMPORTANT: To ensure full functionality, you must install the latest adapter firmware and Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) driver for your adapter. The IEther-00 (iether) requires the latest firmware for supported devices. For more information, see the latest HP-UX Ethernet Card Support Matrix at: Network supported on HP 9000 systems do not require separate firmware updates. The IODC (boot driver) is already built into the system firmware. Refer to the respective system firmware recipe. To determine and download the latest adapter firmware and EFI driver for an Integrity product, follow these steps: 6

7 1. Go to 2. Click the Support Download drivers. 3. Enter your product name (for example, NC364m) or enter the product number and click Go. 4. Click on the link to the appropriate adapter. 5. Select the language and operating system 6. To review firmware versions and release notes, click the Readme tab. To download the firmware, click the Download button. 7. Download the firmware. 8.
