5 1 Introduction The xplm Integration for Pro/Engineer provides functions to save and post process parts, assemblies as well as drawings and product data in Aras Innovator. System requirements are Pro/Engineer 3 or higher and Aras Innovator. It is available for Microsoft Windows XP (x86). It is recommended to use the up-to-date service pack. You will be able to fill part attributes of Pro/Engineer objects with data available in your Aras Innovator tables. Files of a Pro/Engineer session will be saved in a central file vault. Files in Aras Innovator will be loaded into your current Pro/Engineer session. The xplm Integration for Aras Innovator and Pro/Engineer enables you to use central and protected file storage. Concurrent Engineering is supported through the use of reservations of individual objects and assembly based structures. Connections between Pro/Engineer objects and items are easily made. Based on these connections you can use Pro/Engineer to derive a bill of materials. The xplm Integration for Aras Innovator and Pro/Engineer utilizes the API (Application Programming Interface) provided by Pro/Engineer as well as by Aras Innovator. It is designed to extend existing Pro/Engineer functionality. The Pro/Engineer Connector of Aras Innovator is an additional module for the technical information system Aras Innovator. Manipulation of the CAD structure and objects (e.g. create, move, delete, copy etc.) will be done in a running CAD system. It's the technical master application while Aras Innovator is the organizational master application. Aras Innovator will administer CAD objects and structures that are important in your design and approval workflow as individual objects (e.g. parts, drawings and 3D models). This does not include basic CAD elements like lines, surfaces or bodies. Functionalities of the xplm connector will be available via additional or enhanced menus in Pro/Engineer. They access both the available functions of CAD system and Aras Innovator and the database of these two systems. 7 2 Working with the xplm Integration 2.1 Menu Structure The xplm Integration provides different menus in Pro/Engineer. Menu and toolbar may be customized by users. select one or more objects from the list to load these objects only. The loading process will be completed after closing the load preview dialog.

There are 5 Options available: Use Cache: If this Option is activated, the integration checks the local file area for an existing file. If there is one, the integration compares the modification dates. If the file is up to date, no check out will be performed. Close Dialog: If this Option is activated, the dialog window is closed automatically after pressing the Load button. If not, it is possible to select other objects in the list to load into the Pro/Engineer session. The Dialog has to be closed via the Close button. Update Properties: If this Option is activated, the Update Properties function ( see ) will called for each object in the load list. Lock after loading: If this Option is activated, all objects will be locked by the user if it is possible. Insert components: If this Option is activated, the selected object will be inserted in the active assembly. This option is visible only if the active object in the Pro/Engineer session is an assembly Save Objects in Aras Innovator Please use Save to add or update documents in Aras Innovator. This function analyzes the object structure of the current object and opens a Save Preview Dialog. This Dialog consists of two main views, a list and a tree.

In the operation column the proposal of the integration is shown Create for new and Save for modified objects. This proposal can be overwritten with the Actions buttons. With the Option and Action area the behavior of the save process can be changed. All information about the save process will be written in the message area in this dialog window. Unlock: Calls the Unlock function for the selected objects.
