7 CHAPTER 1 Compiling TrinityCore Currently, TrinityCore is distributed as source code. Before you can run TrinityCore, you must first compile it. Carefully follow the instructions in this section to get started compiling your own copy of TrinityCore. 1.1 Requirements Before you get started with TrinityCore, please make sure you meet the requirements outlined below Hardware TrinityCore has the following hardware requirements: x86 CPU with SSE2 support Operating Systems TrinityCore is supported on the following operating systems: Linux Windows 7 SP1 OS X Software The following software is needed to compile the core successfully: Boost 1.49 ( 1.54 if building with Clang) MySQL OpenSSL CMake (Windows) or CMake (Linux) GCC or Clang 3.3 (Linux) MS Visual Studio or Visual Studio Express 12 (2013) Desktop (Windows) 3

8 1.2 Build Environment Before you can compile, you must first set up your system with an appropriate build environment. Please follow one of the guides below. Note that certain package names or versions may vary depending on the version of the operating system you use Debian-based Linux (incl. 9 2. Install Visual Studio Community 2015 Download VS Community 2015 IMPORTANT: The installer for VS 2015 (any edition) no longer installs the C++ compiler by default. To enable it, select Custom for the type of installation, and pick Common Tools for Visual C from Programming Languages -> Visual C Build Environment 5

11 3. Install Boost Download Boost TODO: Complete this section 1.3 Compiling Now that you ve met the requirements to compile and run TrinityCore, and you ve set up your build environment, it s time to actually compile the source Compiling 7

12 1.3.1 Getting the Source To start, you need to get a copy of TrinityCore s source. It can be obtained in one of two ways, both of which are outlined below. Download the Source TrinityCore s source lives on GitHub. Periodically, new versions of TrinityCore are released by the TrinityCore maintainers. These versions can be downloaded as.tgz files from the releases page. Make sure you download a release marked for Cloning the Source Alternatively, if you d prefer to have the latest version of TrinityCore, you can obtain the source via git. To start, clone the repo using: git clone git://github.com/trinitycore/trinitycore.git A new directory, named TrinityCore, will be created at your current working path. Switch to that directory. Support for version is limited to the branch, which can be checked out using: git checkout Chapter 1. Compiling TrinityCore
