4 General Information Product Information The CA Database Management Solutions Version 15.0 for IMS for z/os consists of the following products: CA Database Analyzer for IMS for z/os ensures IMS database integrity with early error detection. CA Database Analyzer for IMS for z/os is a powerful IMS database analysis product that assists you in proactively uncovering errors that can result in data corruption. Early detection of errors allows you to address them before they impact the business. Additionally CA Database Analyzer for IMS for z/os assists in testing and tuning of the randomizer routine needed by some high performance database types. CA Database Copier for IMS for z/os generates high-speed IMS image copies. CA Database Copier for IMS for z/os simplifies IMS database image copies by creating online, offline and incremental image copies that are efficient and secure. This helps you protect critical IMS data in the event of a hardware or software error that corrupts the database. CA Database Organizer for IMS for z/os improves IMS database performance with high speed data loading and unloading. CA Database Organizer for IMS for z/os improves database availability and performance through high speed online and offline maintenance tasks, including prefix resolution, data extraction, load, unload and reorganization. This allows you to safely make structural changes to the database to improve performance while minimizing negative impact on data availability. CA High Performance Recovery for IMS for z/os recovers IMS databases with speed and efficiency. CA High Performance Recovery for IMS for z/os reduces the time needed to perform IMS database recovery, efficiently restoring data access, automatically rebuilding indexes and recovering to any point in time, reducing the impact of a recovery on your organization. CA Secondary Index for IMS for z/os automates secondary indexing capabilities for IMS Fast Path DEDB databases. Conserve resources and improve performance by implementing automated secondary indexing capabilities for IMS Fast Path databases. Because you won't need to create secondary indexes on the application side, you can save significant money. CA Secondary Index Builder for IMS for z/os builds and maintains IMS primary and secondary indexes. CA Secondary Index Builder for IMS for z/os improves database performance and availability by simply and quickly building Full Function and HALDB IMS primary and secondary indexes. It quickly rebuilds indexes after database reorganization and enhances database backup and recovery by eliminating the need to image copy and restore indexes. This saves resources and shortens the reorganization and recovery process.

5 CA Mainframe Configuration Manager for IMS for z/os updates resource definitions without requiring an outage CA Mainframe Configuration Manager implements the needed changes to IMS application resource definitions without interrupting IMS access helping you meet System Level Agreements for IMS information availability. CA Mainframe Extended Terminal Manager for IMS for z/os allows dynamic creation of IMS terminals, printers and LTERMS without writing ETO user exits CA Mainframe Extended Terminal Manager can add or modify devices without interrupting IMS access and eliminate the need for writing ETO exits, helping you meet Service Level Agreements for IMS information availability. CA Mainframe Program Restart Manager for IMS for z/os helps save time by automating the restart of certain IMS jobs CA Mainframe Program Restart Manager helps save time, lower risk and prevents the delays and the possible errors that can occur when restarting certain IMS jobs. Additionally, Program Restart Manager also provides support to dynamically backout database updates that occurred after the last check point for DLI Batch JOBs that abend, preparing the JOB to be restarted. It also provides capabilities to enhance database performance and application management. CA Compress Data Compression for IMS for z/os simplifies data compression for your IMS environment. Minimize the DASD space requirements for IMS databases, reduce your costs and simplify DASD management. Improve efficiency by performing compression simulation for analysis purpose, before actually compressing a database and achieve compression yields as high as 70 to 80 percent.

CA Common Services for z/os Prerequisites Before you install the CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os, we highly recommend that you install r14 of CA Common Services for z/os. Minimally, you must have r11 of CA Common Services installed at the SP08 Service pack before applying this product package. 8 o o o CA Recommended Services (CA RS) Aggregate Maintenance ERROR HOLDDATA Visit the Mainframe 2.0 website to learn more about how CA mainframe products for z/os are managed: Getting Started We highly recommended that the CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os be installed using CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM). Available installation methods, all of which use SMP/E, are listed below. 1. Installation using CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) 2. Electronic Software Delivery download for tapeless installation 3. SMP/E Installation using a physical tape o CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os are available on a single 3590E tape cartridge. The tape volser is I15GA0. Following installation of the base product functions, we recommend that you apply the latest PE PTF HOLDDATA and Preventive Maintenance following the APPLY and ACCEPT. For more information about installing and configuring the products, see the CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os Installation Guide. License Management Program (LMP) The CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os are maintained by the CA License Management Program (LMP). LMP provides a standardized, automated approach to license management and is designed to eliminate the difficulties inherent in tracking the accurate licensed use of CA Technologies products. If you have any questions about LMP or would like to view your LMP license keys, refer to CA Support Online under the heading Licensing. For complete installation instructions, including LMP information, refer to the CA Common Services for z/os documentation.

9 Summary of Changes Mainframe 2.0 Enhancements CA MSM Product Acquisition Service (SCS) The Software Configuration Service (SCS) facilitates the configuration of your mainframe products from the software inventory of the driving system to targeted z/os operating systems. You can use the SCS component of CA MSM to configure a CA Technologies product that you have already acquired, installed, and deployed. CA MSM Product Acquisition Service The CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os are CA MSM compliant, meaning you can acquire this and other CA mainframe products and the service for those products, such as program temporary fixes (PTFs) with CA MSM. The service retrieves information about the products to which your site is entitled and records these entitlements in a software inventory maintained on your driving system. The service can also download the LMP keys (licenses) for those products. The webbased interface enables you to browse the software inventory for available software and fixes and download them from CA Support Online to the driving system. CA MSM Product Installation Service The CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os use the CA MSM installation service which facilitates the installation and maintenance of CA Technologies mainframe products in the software inventory of the driving system. The web-based interface enables you to browse and manage the software inventory, and automate installation tasks. You can browse downloaded software packages and browse and manage SMP/E consolidated software inventories (CSIs) on the driving system. CA MSM Software Deployment Service (SDS) The CA Database Management Solutions for IMS for z/os use the CA MSM Software Deployment Service (SDS) introduced in CA MSM r3.0. SDS facilitates the deployment of CA mainframe products from the software inventory of a host system to a target system or multiple target systems. This service enables you to deploy installed products that are policy driven with a set of appropriate transport mechanisms across a known topology. The enterprise system topology can include shared DASD environments, networked environments, and z/os systems. Policies represent a combination of CA metadata input that identifies the component parts of a product and user-supplied input that identifies the deployment criteria, such as where it will go and what will it be called. Note: For more information about the Software Deployment Service, see the chapters "Setting System Registry" and "Deploying Products" in the CA Mainframe Software Manager User Guide.

10 CA Product Health Checks The CA Database Management Solutions Version 15.0 for IMS for z/os provides system health checks that integrate with the IBM Health Checker for z/os. The Health Checker is a base component of z/os that identifies potential problems before they impact availability or cause outages. These health checks monitor your system and provide feedback to confirm that the software is optimally configured. Maintenance Procedures With the introduction of Mainframe 2.0, preventive maintenance delivered in the form of service packs have been phased out for all the Mainframe 2.0 Stack products. The new method to perform preventive maintenance for the Mainframe 2.0 Stack products is based on CA Recommended Service (CA RS). CA RS includes recommended service (PTFs) for all the Mainframe 2.0 stack products at multiple release levels that have been quality tested together over a predefined time period in CA s Integrated System Test lab. The underlying concept for Preventive Maintenance or Corrective Maintenance is: - Get it all download all published service - RECEIVE it all use CA MSM or legacy SMP/E - APPLY by need use CA MSM or legacy SMP/E to apply - Preventive Maintenance by CA RS level - Corrective Maintenance by specific PTF or APAR o Preventive Maintenance To perform preventive maintenance for the Mainframe 2.0 Stack products download and receive the published service then apply the service by CA RS level along with the latest ERROR HOLDDATA file. CA Recommended Service (CA RS) identifies PTFs that have passed additional quality validation criteria over a measured time cycle. CA RS is patterned after IBM's preventative maintenance model, Recommended Service Upgrade (RSU), which has been widely adopted. For more information visit the CA RS support page at o Corrective Maintenance for all CA mainframe products To perform corrective maintenance for all CA Mainframe products download and receive the published service then apply the specific PTFs or APARs as necessary along with the latest ERROR HOLDDATA file. o ERROR HOLDDATA for all CA mainframe products CA Technologies provides ERROR HOLDDATA to aid in identifying critical maintenance that should not be applied to your CA Technologies mainframe products. Following installation of the base functions, we recommend that you RECEIVE the ERROR HOLDDATA and determine if any corrective PTFs should be applied.

11 For more information visit the Mainframe 2.0 support page regarding new maintenance procedures and best practices: Ease PTF downloads by using Aggregate Maintenance solutions For users that have not yet implemented CA MSM, Aggregate Maintenance has been created as a new solution type that includes published PTFs for a product or product family over a specified period that are delivered as a file to make the electronic download of a group of fixes more efficient. These files should be received on a regular basis so that preventative maintenance can be applied by CA RS level and corrective maintenance can be applied by specific PTF or APAR as needed. To find the Aggregate Maintenance file, choose the Maintenance Grid link under the Product Status heading on CA Support Online.
