2 Overview When upgrading from IBM Content Manager Enterprise Edition Version 8.5 to IBM Content Manager Enterprise Edition Version 8.6, review the software and hardware configuration to ensure that the IBM Content Manager V8.6 requirements are met. Note that upgrading to V8.6 requires that you upgrade to V8.5 before upgrading to V8.6. In some cases, changes will be required while in the IBM Content Manager V8.5 environment, while in other cases, the changes can be performed in the IBM Content Manager V8.6 environment. The transition of IBM Content Manager prerequisite software must be performed in a certain sequence in order to keep the IBM Content Manager V8.5 and resulting IBM Content Manager V8.6 system within supported configurations. When using IBM Content Manager, there is a defined set of supported configurations. In order to stay in a supported configuration, there are transitions for prerequisite software that keep IBM Content Manager in a supported configuration. Although there might be a number of possible ways to transition from one configuration to another, you should follow the supported transitions which have been tested. To more effectively communicate the upgrade sequence, flow diagrams are used. For a detailed explanation of these diagrams, see the Sample diagram in Appendix A. Hardware and software requirements The effort to move from one hardware platform to another is provided through custom services and not described in this document. Information about how to upgrade prerequisite software is best described in prerequisite product documentation. Hence, it is not repeated in this document. Before upgrading, you should be comfortable with the prerequisite software product documentation procedures in order to run the upgrades. In each section below, links to prerequisite product documentation information are provided. In some cases, this might be supplemented with additional IBM Content Manager specific procedures. 3 High Level Version 8.6 Upgrade Sequence The following high level steps are required for upgrading from IBM Content Manager Enterprise Edition V8.5 to IBM Content Manager Enterprise Edition V8.6: 1. Prepare the IBM Content Manager V8.5 environment for upgrade by using the prerequisite software product upgrade procedures, while remaining in an IBM Content Manager V8.5 supported environment. 2. Upgrade to IBM Content Manager V8.6 by using the appropriate IBM Content Manager upgrade procedures. 3. Post upgrade, optionally upgrade the environment using prerequisite software product upgrade procedures, while remaining in an IBM Content Manager V8.6 supported environment. Each section provides information about the prerequisite software for IBM Content Manager including: Operating Systems Note: This document only lists the minimum Operating System service level that is required to run the Content Manager. DB2 Note: This document only lists the minimum prerequisite level that is required to work with the Content Manager. Information about Oracle and WebSphere Application server: Upgrading to Content Manager V8.6 with Oracle 12cR2 can be found in: gcm.doc/support_oracle12cr2.html Upgrading WebSphere Application Server can be found in: gcm.doc/upgradetowasv8.html Within the non-operating system prerequisites, the sections are further sectioned by operating system, which include: Windows Server Windows Client AIX Red Hat SUSE Linux IBM Content Manager with Solaris SPARC support is dropped in IBM Content Manager V8.6. 4 Manager system on Solaris SPARC to a supported operating system, see 64-bit Operating Systems Depending on the operating system, in order to upgrade to IBM Content Manager V8.6, and/or to take advantage of newer prerequisite software, you might need to upgrade the operating system. IBM Content Manager V8.6 drops all 32-bit version operating systems support. An IBM Content Manager running on 32-bit version operating systems upgrade isn t supported. Therefore, any IBM Content Manager running on 32-bit operating systems that require an upgrade to Content Manager V8.6 must upgrade operating systems to 64-bit first. The option appropriate to the operating system is dictated by IBM Content Manager V8.6 prerequisite software. Later sections of this document describe how the upgrade of prerequisite software fits in sequence with an operating system upgrade. Before IBM Content Manager V8.6 Upgrade Windows Server must be on 64-bit versions before upgrade Windows Client upgrade to 64-bit versions. AIX must be on 64-bit versions before upgrade Red Hat must be on 64-bit versions before upgrade SUSE Linux must be on 64-bit versions before upgrade IBM Content Manager Version V8.5 drops 32-bit server version operating system. Windows All 32-bit versions Windows are no longer supported with IBM Content Manager V8.6. Windows server 2008 and Windows server 2008 R2 are no longer supported with IBM Content Manager V8.6. In-place upgrade from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012 R2 is not supported.

5 Windows All 32-bit versions Windows are no longer supported with IBM Content Manager V8.6. Windows server 2008 and Windows server 2008 R2 are no longer supported with IBM Content Manager V8.6. In-place upgrade from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012 R2 is not supported. You can upgrade from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2008 R2/Windows Server 2012 first, and then upgrade to Windows Server 2012R2. Detail information can be found in: Windows server 2012 R2 support is added with IBM Content Manager V8.5 Fix Pack 2. Windows server 2016 support is added with IBM Content Manager V8.6. 6 AIX IBM Content Manager with AIX 6.1 support is dropped in IBM Content Manager V8.6. Only 64-bit Kernel is supported in IBM Content Manager V8.6. AIX 7.2 support is added with IBM Content Manager V8.5 Fix Pack 6. Red Hat Enterprise Linux Upgrade path is similar to SUSE Linux Copyright 2018 IBM Corporation Page 6 of 12

7 IBM Content Manager with RHEL 5 and 6 are dropped in IBM Content Manager V8.6 Red Hat 7 support is added with IBM Content Manager V8.5 Fix Pack 6. Red Hat supports upgrade from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.11, or the latest minor version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. DB2 Upgrade Sequence The sequence of steps is depicted in the following upgrade charts. The procedures are different for Windows, UNIX, and Linux platforms. 9 Windows Important: Windows does not support direct 32-bit to 64-bit upgrades, even if the machine is 64-bit hardware running 32-bit Windows. Contact Microsoft for instructions on how to upgrade your operating system to 64-bit. If the computer is 32-bit hardware, an IBM Content Manager system move is required. See Documentation for IBM Content Manager Enterprise Edition system move. DB2 V11.1 doesn t support Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.
