2 *You re going to build your own website using Weebly *Weebly is a free tool that can be used to build websites quickly. *The instructions should help you work through the task, but ask for help if you are having trouble following the instructions * 2

3 *Take a look through the sample site: * *Look at the navigation, click on each one *There is a Video, Slide show, gallery and store all of these can be easily added to a website * 3

4 1. Come up with the theme of the website you might want to create. *Example Themes: Music, Fashion, Art, Charity, Sports, Clubs. 2. From you theme, come up with a name for the site *Example: Fashion Icon, RunIT Westport etc. 3. What pages do you want? Put down the name of 3-4 pages in your site 4. What do you want in the pages? *Use the sample site to help you decide *Do you want a YouTube video? A gallery? A shop? * 4

5 *You need an address if you don t have one, let us know and we ll help you set up a Gmail account * 5

7 Browse through the themes, and choose one that suits your website, or simply that you like 7

8 Come up with a suitable name for you site, if it is taken, try something else 8

11 You re ready to make your first page 11

12 Drag Title onto the page and type in a title. Do the same with Text Drag the columns button into a blank space on you page. Then drag the text box into both sides. 12

13 Click on 1 Pages, 2 Add Page (Standard Page) *

14 Put in a Page Name (3) Choose a Page Layout (4) Click on 5 Save and Edit *

15 To get images for your website, in a new tab, do a search on Google for your topic of choice select the images category to display images only. Note: This is just a practice web site. For published websites, you must use your own images or get permission to use images from the owner of the images. * 15

16 Pick one of the images, click on it and select View Image * 16

17 Now right click on the mouse, Save image as * 17

18 Save the image to the Desktop (if you need help with saving images, ask). Select and save about 5 images for your slide show * 18

19 Drag Slideshow into your Gallery page Pick a style, click on continue * 19

20 Click on Upload photos (or drag and drop images in) 20

21 21 Click on the first of your images, hold the shift key and click on the last of your images, then click open

22 When all of your images are uploaded, click Save 22

23 Your Slide Show is ready. If you click on Publish, you can see your website, and it is published on the World Wide Web! 23

25 You can select a website category, or skip this Enter the CAPTCHA 25

26 This is the address of your website, if you share this with others, they can see your website Click on the link to go to your website 26

27 Lets try adding more to our website Next we ll add a video. But let s add a new page can you remember how to do it? Click on Pages, Add Page The rest of the instructions are on slide 13, if you need them 27

28 You will see a few Media buttons. Anything with a star next to it can t be used unless you have a paid account. Select the YouTube one, and drag it into your new page Click on the video item, a box should come up for you to put in the link to the video. (This sometimes takes a few goes before it comes up) 28 *

29 In a new tab, go to YouTube and search for a video to add to your website. Copy the address from the address bar (CTRL C) Here s a URL for flowers blooming, you can copy and paste this to your site: 29

30 If you like, you can add more items to the page, such as a header, text, etc. Click on Publish to view the website again 30

32 If you want to try something else, try creating a web store, click on Store 32

33 There are 4 steps to adding a store, start with add a store page * 33

34 Select Store page 34

35 On the store page, click to add a product, then fill in the details, scroll down to add a price, save product 35

36 Here s your shop. But, it should be Euros Click on Settings, Store and change to Euro. You can change other settings for your store here too, such as Store information 36

37 On the Store dashboard, the Payments have to be set up (you can get to this from your store page by clicking on Edit Storefront) 37

38 Using Stripe is the easiest way to get set up for payments. You need to have an account to get setup to receive payments. Stripe was developed by 2 guys from Limerick and is a world wide success, read more about it here 38

39 There is a lot of Legal stuff that has to be taken care of before setting up a live web store, such as Privacy statements, usage policies, returns policies, terms and conditions. But Weebly makes it really easy to build and manage a web store. If this was a real web store, to make it look more professional, we would need to pay for our own domain name, so it doesn t have.weebly.com at the end of it. 39
