1 The How to Dos of Google Sites Overview Page 1 Google Sites offers tremendous functionality to make collaborating and sharing information simple. This job aid provides the step-by-step instructions that are presented at the end of every lesson in Google Sites. Use this document to quickly review the steps needed to get the most out of your use of Google Sites. Lesson 1: Introduction How to use Google Sites : Start at the beginning and go to the end of the course Go to Google Sites Home page and pick a specific lesson (average length is under 3 minutes) Tools provides job aids to enhance your use of Google Sites Glossary includes terms that are unique to this course and separate Google Sites from other legacy applications Audio Script will allow you to read along with the voice over Click the next arrow at the completion of each slide, a necessary feature to enable accessibility Lesson 2: Understand Google Sites How to identify the purpose, and use, of a site: Consider what you want your visitors to know Consider what you want your visitors to do How to identify the different elements of a site The URL, theme, and content How to identify the three main elements of Google Sites: Identify the dashboard, create a site page, and the Google Sites home page.

2 Lesson 3: Create a Site How to create a new site: Page 2 1. Click Create and select a template, name, and theme 2. Enter information about the site 3. Select basic sharing options Lesson 4: Add Pages to Your Site How to add a new web page to your site: 1. Click the new page icon 2. Name your page 3. Select Web Page or one of the other page templates 4. Select the correct page location 5. Click Create 6. Add content to the page How to save your own page as a template: 1. When viewing the page you want to save as a template, click More 2. Click Save as page template 3. Enter the appropriate details, then click Save Lesson 5: Add Content to Your Pages How to add text to a web page: 1. Click the edit page icon, then insert content into the page 2. Click Save when finished How to preview the page as a viewer: Click More, then select preview page as viewer How to add a hyperlink: 1. Click the edit page icon, then select the text you want to link to 2. Click the link icon, then select the resource you want to link to 3. Click OK to insert them hyperlink

3 How to add a Google resource: Page 3 1. Click the edit page icon, then Insert 2. Select the Google resource you want to insert 3. Edit the properties, click Save to insert the resource; click Save to view the page How to insert an image: 1. Click the edit page icon, Insert, then Image 2. Select the image that you want to insert, then click Save How to insert a video: 1. Click the edit page icon, Insert, then YouTube, or, Drive then Video 2. Enter the URL for a YouTube video, or Select the video that you want to insert from Drive, then click Save How to insert a table: 1. Click the edit page icon, Table, then Insert table 2. Select the table size, then click Save to save this page How to change layout of the page: 1. Click the edit page icon, Layout, then select the correct layout 2. Click Save to save this page How to change a page s settings: 1. Click More then Page settings 2. Click Save to save the settings Lesson 6: Site Appearance How to change a site s layout: 2. Modify the site layout 3. Click Close to close the edit site layout options How to change a site s logo:, then click on the header area 2. Select the appropriate choice, then click OK 3. Click Close

4 How to change the content of the horizontal navigation bar: Page 4 1. Click More, Edit layout 2. Click the Horizontal navigation to add or remove the horizontal navigation bar 3. Click OK, then click Close How to edit the sidebar: 2. Click the Sidebar option to add or remove the sidebar 3. Click the edit icon or plus icon to edit the sidebar 4. Click on the sidebar item to edit the item, or click the x icon to remove it 5. then Site layout to be able to edit the sidebar How to insert a footer: 2. Click the Custom footer option to add or remove the footer 3. Click on the footer area, then add content to the footer 4. Click OK, then click Close How to change your site s color and fonts: 1. Click More, Manage site, then Themes, Colors and Fonts 2. Select the appropriate options, and use the preview tool to preview your site 3. Click Save, then the site name to view the changes you made How to change your site s theme: 1. Click More, Manage site, then Themes, Colors and Fonts 2. Select the appropriate options, and use the preview tool to preview your site 3. Click Save, then the site name to view the changes you made Lesson 7: Site and Sharing Settings How to tailor general information about your site 1. Click More and Manage site. The General tab is selected 2. Select the appropriate information 3. Click Save when finished

5 How to change the sharing settings for your site: Page 5 1. Click More and then Sharing and Permissions, or just click the Share at the top of the page 2. Select the appropriate sharing settings and notification settings 3. Click Save when finished How to keep track of different versions of your site: 1. Click More then Revision History 2. Select the different options to view the history 3. Click the site name when finished How to share your site: Copy the URL of your site and share it with the appropriate people Each person will view the site with the level of permission that you have granted
