Proof-of-Concept Evaluation for Modelling Time and Space (PlanetData Deliverable 2.5) Zaenal Akbar December 14, 2015 Copyright 2015 STI INNSBRUCK
Outline Introduction Product: Map4RDF-iOS Example Scenario Conclusion 2/15
Introduction (1) About: A proof-of-concept implementation How to use spatio-temporal data available on the Web of Data to build simple applications Focus: how spatio-temporal data (i) can be visualized in small devices (ios devices: ipads) (ii) integrating geospatial data, statistical and sensor data 3/15
Introduction (2) Requirements: All data sources must be represented using vocabularies: (i) recommended by Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) (ii) recommended by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) (iii) proposed in the context of W3C community groups For example: (i) OGC GeoSPARQL 1 (ii) W3C for geospatial data 2 (iii) RDF DataCube for statistical data 3 (iv) SSN Ontology 4 All of them available through SPARQL endpoints URIs are dereferenceable following Linked Data principles /15
Introduction (3) Map4RDF-iOS Based on web-based Map4RDF tool 5 Developed and maintained by the Ontology Engineering Group, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain 6 Motivation: limitation of web-based tool: (i) Performance (i.e. user responsiveness) in small devices was not enough (ii) The device s native code was not utilized (iii) Unable to visualize a large number of items /15
Introduction (4) Map4RDF-iOS Unique features: (i) Highly customizable by end users, e.g select SPARQL endpoints, change queries (ii) Has an optimized memory management, run smoothly when used in a mobile device Has been already demoed in two workshops: (i) ISWC Semantic Sensor Network Workshop, Oct (ii) Linking Geospatial Data Workshop, March 2014 A lite version is available in the Mac App Store 7 Unfortunately, it is not accessible anymore Checked on November 27, /15
Map4RDF-iOS (1) Architecture: 1. Main libraries and framework: Core Graphics, UIKit, 2. Application specific modules: Menu, URI Finder, 7/15
Map4RDF-iOS (2) Configuration-Panel: Supports multiple map servers: OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Nokia Here Two different types of data are obtained from SPARQL endpoints: (i) the thematic categories and the geospatial properties of data points (ii) statistical data of data points 8/15
Map4RDF-iOS (3) Visualization when a data point is selected, the name and category appears in a dialog box together with an information button 9/15
Map4RDF-iOS (4) Additional Information of a specific data point: Full visualization of the HTML representation for that URI Statistics module, related to the selected data point Paste into clipboard Buffer tool, visualizing resources within a circular buffer defined by the user Route service, create and display routes between two or more points (foot, public transport, car) Search service, looks for the URI in other SPARQL endpoints with services like sameas.org 10/15
Example Scenario (1) Visualize live bus transport data in Madrid from static and streaming SPARQL and SPARQLStream endpoints 9 9 EMT Services: /15
Example Scenario (2) Displaying bus route in a map from an origin stop to a destination Displaying the waiting time in a particular bus stop 12/15
Conclusion Map4RDF-iOS Offers an intuitive and usable interface to: visualize and explore RDF datasets containing geospatial information possibly combined with some forms of temporal information (inside statistics or sensor data streams) Faster than web-based version Map4RDF on loading and browsing medium-size RDF datasets with geospatial information 13/15
