Creating Calendars for Your Web Site It is quick and easy to create custom calendars for your Web site using Extend. You can create calendars that list events for Youth Ministries, Women s Ministries, or Bible Studies. You can display these calendars on your Web site on specific channels. For instance, you can display the Youth Ministries calendar on your Youth Channel. You can also display a combination calendar on your Web site homepage so visitors can view all of the events occurring at your organization at one time. Follow the instructions below to create an interactive and informative calendar for your Web site visitors to view. Creating Calendars Point to Site, then click Calendar Manager. Figure 1 Selecting the Calendar Manager Under Actions, click Create New Calendar. Figure 2 Create New Calendar Option Enter a title for the calendar. For this exercise we entered Bible Studies in the Title field. Copyright 2007 ACS Technologies Group, Inc. All rights reserved.

Enter a Title for the event. For this exercise we entered Pastor Tim s Bible Study. Enter a Description for the event. For this exercise we entered Pastor Tim leads a study on 1 Corinthians. All are welcome. Select Once a Week from the Occurrence drop-down list. Enter a start and end time for the event. Enter a Location, Contact Name, Contact Address, and Contact Phone Number. For the location, we entered Fellowship Hall. We entered Pastor Tim as the contact, pastortim@firstchurch.org for the contact address, and for the contact phone number. You can enter Location Details to give directions to a location, specify a room number, or indicate an alternate meeting place if something occurs. 2 of 17
Figure 4 Creating a bible study event Click Save. Next, we want to create an event that meets more than once a month. Click to create a new event. The event we want to create is a youth women s bible study class that will meet on the 14th and 28th of the month. We have to create two individual event entry s for the youth women s bible study group, since it occurs more than once in a month. For this exercise we entered Young Adult Women s Bible Study for the Title. For the Description, we entered Special study with guest speaker for women ages to study the book of Luke. We selected One Time for the Occurrence, and set the date and time of the event. For the Location we entered Room 109. If necessary, enter Location Details 3 of 17
Figure 5 Creating the first Youth Women s Bible Study group entry Now we want to create the calendar event for the second meeting. Following the previous instructions we create another Youth Adult Women s Bible Study event, but we want to enter 5/28/2008 for the Event Date. 4 of 17
Figure 6 Creating the second women s bible study event Click Save. Creating a New Ministry Calendar We now need to create a new ministry calendar. The new calendar is for the organization s Outreach Ministry. Point to Site, then click Calendar Manager. Figure 7 Selecting the Calendar Manager Under Actions, click Create New Calendar. 5 of 17

Figure 11 Creating the Hunger Walk event Click Save for the event, then click Save for the calendar. You are now ready to post the calendars to your organizations Web site. The first calendar we want to post is the Homepage calendar. In this exercise, we want to display both of the calendars, Bible Studies and Outreach. We want to do this to let visitors to the Web site view all organization events. We do not want to restrict the calendars they can view. Point to Site, then click Layout Manager. Figure 12 Selecting the Layout Manager 8 of 17
Select the channel page you want to display the calendars on. For this exercise we want to display the calendars on the Homepage, which just happens to be the first channel displayed in the Layout Manager. Locate the column you want the calendars to display in. Under Add Content, click New. Figure 13 Adding content Note If the calendars are the first piece of content you place on the homepage, you must select the number of columns you want displayed on the page. For this exercise, we selected One Column. Select the number of columns that best fits your organizations needs. Select Calendar View, you can select the parts of the calendar you want to display for visitors. Figure 14 Selecting the Calendar View Enter a title for the calendar in the Title field. For this exercise we entered, Monthly Calendar of Events. Select Grid View or List View from the Display Format options. 9 of 17
Figure 15 Entering attributes for the calendar view Click the Calendars tab, and select the calendars you want to display. For this exercise, we selected Bible Studies and Outreach Events. Click Save. Figure 16 The Calendars tab Point to the at the top of the content piece. Select Title and Body from the drop-down menu. This means that the title and body of the content piece displays on the page. The title of the calendar displays and the body is the calendar itself. 10 of 17
Figure 17 Selecting to display the Title and Body Note The events of the calendar will not display in the Layout Manager. The events display when you preview the event and on the live site. To see what the calendar looks like before you publish, click Preview. Check the information carefully, and when you are finished close the Preview window. To prevent the calendar from displaying on the presentation side, click Retract on the Layout Manager toolbar. To publish the calendar, click Publish, then click OK. The calendar is now live on your Web site. Figure 18 The live calendar 11 of 17
We now want to place the Bible Studies calendar on the Learning Calendar Channel. We do this because we assume visitors to the Learning Calendar Channel want to view when bible studies are occurring and not other events like youth missions, music events, or outreach events. To create the Learning Calendar Channel, point to Site, then click Channel Manager. Under Actions, click Create New Group. Figure 19 Selecting the Channel Manager Figure 20 Creating a new group Enter a name for the group. For this exercise, we entered Learning Calendar. 12 of 17
Figure 21 Entering a name for the channel group Under Actions, click Create New Channel. Enter a name and alias for the channel in the appropriate fields. For this exercise we named the channel Learning Channel. The alias is the information that displays in the URL bar. We named our alias learningchannel. Click Learning Calendar from the Group drop-down list. 13 of 17
Figure 22 Creating a new channel Click Save. Note When you create a channel, it is inactive until you publish it in the Layout Manager. The inactive channel does not display on the presentation side of the site. To prevent a channel from displaying on the presentation side, click Retract on the Layout Manager toolbar. Now you can lay out your channel design and publish it in the Layout Manager. Under Actions, click Layout Channel. 14 of 17
Figure 23 Selecting the Channel Manager Select the column layout you want for your page from the Add A Content Row section. Your available options are: One Column Two Columns Two Columns Left Two Columns Right Three Columns For this exercise we selected One Column. Under Add Content, click New.
