1 C H A N G E C O N T R O L Click Pack X Raw material change summary The following information concerns all our valued customers who buy or intend to buy Click PackX. As part of our change control protocol, I would like to inform you about a planned change of raw material used for containers and lids and a change of raw material used for the integrated gasket. The EU legislation (EC 10/2011) on materials for food contact is about to change. As of January 1st 2016, all plastic packaging materials must comply with newly defined overall migration limits. CurTec wants its packaging products to comply with the new food contact regulation. Recent analysis however showed that we cannot achieve that goal to our satisfaction with all our raw materials and colorants. Until now, Click Pack X has been manufactured of one PP brand for which we have no suitable alternative brands. In order to secure continuity of supply, we have decided to switch to HDPE as raw material for all Click Pack X containers and lids. We have sufficient alternative HDPE brands available to us with a higher reliability of supply. Before choosing HDPE, we made sure it fulfilled all our technical and quality requirements. Our R&D department has extensively tested HDPE Click Pack X to make sure that it performs equally well or even better than the original PP version. CurTec also decided to select new raw materials for the manufacture of the integrated gasket because we cannot guarantee that the current material will comply with the new regulation. We have already approved one material and are testing a second one. As soon as it has been approved, you will be notified. For your reference, I have made a detailed summary of all relevant technical data, available certificates and other background information. Please be aware that the product codes have been modified. Also the lay-out of and information on the product data sheets has been updated. The packaging units remain unchanged but no longer appear on the product data sheet. Should you require additional information to process this change in your quality system, please contact me by before June 1st If you do not respond before this date, CurTec assumes that you will formally accept this change. As of July 1st 2015, Click Pack X will be manufactured from HDPE. The lid will also have an integrated gasket of the new material. You can place a final order of the current version until June 15th Valued customers who for some reason cannot accept HDPE as raw material, will still be able to order PP Click Pack X, but only as a customised item and without a UN marking. 3 Technical comparison HDPE - PP Before choosing HDPE, we made sure it fulfilled all our technical and quality requirements. Our R&D department has extensively tested Packo's manufactured of HDPE to make sure that they perform equally well or even better than the original PP version. In general HDPE is the preferred material in the chemical industrial packaging. 4 Characteristics and chemical resistance of TPE In order to enable a continuous supply to our customers in future and to ensure the availability of material for our production, we changed to a different type of TPE. With this new TPE CurTec can assure that CurTec products comply with the newest EU legislation on food contact. Before choosing new materials for the manufacture of the integrated gasket, CurTec made sure it fulfilled all our technical and quality requirements like UN testing, MVTR and easy of closing the lids, by performing extensive tests on Packo lids with integrated gaskets. Chemical resistance Long-term contact with oils, fuels, aromatics and various organic acids can cause a certain amount of degradation or swelling of TPE. We recommend testing our packaging with these substances to determine the final effect, also because the chemical resistance depends on the mechanical and thermal conditions. We do not recommend contact with mineral and organic oils neither for the current nor for the new TPE. 12 FAQs Will both PP and HDPE be available as stock items? No, after July 1st 2015 PP Click Pack X products are no longer stock items so you will have to respect the MOQ of customised items and accept a longer delivery time. CurTec will also no longer maintain the UN marking on the PP containers so if you use Click Pack X for hazmat then we advise you to switch to the HDPE version. For a last buy option of the PP Click Pack X in the old version please respect the date in the change control notification letter. Please contact Inside Sales for the delivery conditions of customised items. Does the HDPE lid fit a PP container and vice versa? No, the dimensions of HDPE items are different from PP items and they cannot be combined. How can I check which raw material is used to manufacture a Click Pack X item? Each Click Pack X item bears a material recycle logo moulded into the base of a container or inside of a lid. The recycle logo represents the raw material of which the Click Pack X item is made. Will CurTec take back stock of PP Click Pack X products from customers that wish to change to HDPE immediately? CurTec will not take back stock from customers. However, we are open to mediate a solution in case you want to change to HDPE but your stock prevents this. Please contact Inside Sales for more info. Is CurTec prepared to deliver other than batch quantities to customers who wish to balance their stock of PP items? CurTec only agrees to deliver batch quantities. However, we are open to mediate a solution in case your stock levels of PP items do not level out. Please contact Inside Sales for more info. Will HDPE Click Pack X items be available at the same prices as PP items? Yes, pricing for HDPE items is similar to PP items. Will the packaging units of HDPE Click Pack X differ from the PP version? No, the packaging units will remain the same. Is there any difference in chemical resistance of HDPE and PP? Yes, there are certain chemicals to which HDPE responds differently than PP. You can learn more about the chemical resistance of HDPE vs PP on page 3 of this document. Is there any difference in chemical resistance of the current and the new TPE? Yes, there are certain chemicals to which the new TPE responds differently. Read page 4 of this document to learn about chemical resistance of TPE or contact Inside Sales in case you have questions. Will the current TPE material be available after the change? No, after July 1st the current TPE material will no longer be available because the material does not comply with the regulations for Food Contact. Will the UN markings change due to these changes?
