1 Project 1 Mobile App Critiques 30/30 app Yes, the design is appropriate for the target audience. The target audience seem people who need time precision for their work and they need to be productive. Apparently, the way this app is designed and the simplicity of the design is clear that it is get to the point, and timer is ready to be used easily. These people are busy, they need to time their tasks. Yes and no. Yes, in a sense that it is focus and only two clicks to use as a timer. Only two timing are set, 30 minutes and 45 minutes. Then there is one button leads to someone twitter page. I said no because, if the users want to customize, there is no place allow them to change. The content is so focus, but poor to use it for multi-purpose. The organization is ok, clear and focus. The navigation is also simple and understandable. What works is the timer and the simplicity. The black and white color with big clock also is attractive. What could be improved is to allow to customize the timer according the user s need. Real objects are more fun than buttons and menus. It really feels good to look at the big clock design that is clickable.
2 I like the visual design. It is great for all ages because the big font and icons that pops with the black and white contrast. I wish the alert box content were less jammed. As I said before, it will be great if the user could customize the timer. duolingo Yes, the design is appropriate for the target audience. Per the app designer claim, the target audience is everyone. However, I could see that students and travelers could use it more. The app is also great for children to learn their own language or other language. Yes, for sure. This app is very impressive and pleasing to the eye, great navigation design and the content is very useful and educational. For example, the page start off the brand name and no click needed, it roles straight to the study page to choose how to start the study. Top left, the three-line icon leads to all the languages are available for learning. The languages are represented both by flag icon and written name of the languages. The bottom icons are realistic object that lead to home, create profile, etc. The app has images, speakers, animated writings to use as a puzzle fill in, in other words, it is very interactive and impressive design and the content is more than great. The organization is also very amazing. Truly, all ages people could use it and benefit from it. I also know actors use it to learn quick for their part. I feel this app is well designed. May be there is a room to improve in the lessons area. Once the user start the lesson, not possible to go back to the page before, only quitting is the option to start over. If the user could navigate back and forth to check what the image looked like to match the
3 words, it would be great. Of course, their design is great, they allow the user to redo the lesson by starting over. I would say that it is a mix of pictures are faster than words, Never lose my stuff, keep it brief, and Real objects are more fun than buttons and menus. This app is full of pictures that associate the words and pictures so the questions could be answered from the preview. In addition, at the end of each questioner, the correction pops, then at the end of each lesson there is a notice to let the user know that today lesson is complete, and it prompt for the next day lesson. Also, the wordings are to the point and easy to memorize because the lessons have both images and short words. The real object is all over the app. It really feels good to work with this app. Another think I like is when choosing the language, there is plus button to add the language the user used, therefore, it doesn t damp everything, it only shows what the user chose when the user comes back to choose the language. Incase the family use the same phone or tablet, they can tell what language were learned. 10 DailyYoga Poses
4 Yes, the design is appropriate for the target audience. The target audience seem women that are house wives, working moms, artists type and nature oriented ladies. Mostly, women between 26 to 50 years old will be the users of the 10 daily yoga poses. This program may include women work from home that has flexible schedules. Yes, the content is great. This app is about stretching the body with yoga style. Therefore, the designer loaded some of the popular poses. What I like about this app is it is well organized and it is so basic and simple to navigate, no brainer. Where all the poses listed, when taping on each pose, there is an explanation, there is a name of each pose, and detail of the benefits. This is awesome. There is also a page where time could be set and reset for pose and rest time. The reminder is also a helpful feature. What work is the navigation is straight forward to start the exercises with only few pages to visit. It is focus with a timer already set with an option to change. I like the page where the app incorporated other workout apps. I also like the big round START button in the center, including the yoga pose images right above the start button. What doesn t work is the calendar is just to view day, but not functional. I believe if the designer make the calendar functional, actually, the user could plan ahead and plug in committed days for the week or the month, and set the reminder on, it would be more than perfect. Another suggestion is that once the timer starts, there is no button to pose. Yes, the timer could be reset, that is in different page. It would be great if the pause button was right there and the user could keep the stretch longer for the pose she likes. Delight me in surprising ways would be the one I can associate this app with. It has a crisp and clean background, thoughtfully placed yoga poses. Yes, it gives feeling of effortlessness and the black background gives it a strong presence. The two sounds of the transition and the timer are nice and keep the user alert for the next pose. The design is clean and crisp. The black, white and red contrast gives it a strong and focus feeling. The grey bar for the timer feels in with green as the time counts. Therefore, as the timer counting down, the bar is filling in, that is a great option and contrast for different personality types. Another though is that the focus is on the workout by going straight to the buttons to choose. The timer numbers are clear and large that pops with the red and white contrast are easy to look at.
5 Veggie Grill I do not think the app represent their audience as a whole. The target audiences are vegan and non-vegan crowed that are mindful of their healthy eating habits type of people that are mostly younger crowed between age 12 to 40. Their target audience are very educated in health and loves beautiful, colorful and gravitated toward spirituality or they are very spiritual. I mean very humanitarian and loving types of people, I am one of them. This groups health and wellness comes before stress or wrong life style. My comments start from their Halloween orange logo with some kind of broken leaves that is cartoonist is far away from down to earth, naturalist and realistic type of audiences. In addition, the page starts right from Pay. This is annoying, first show me what I am buying and remind me your good food, then I am glad to pay. I love their
6 food, I am surprised their app is not attractive and not my favorite. It feels crowded, too gray and not inviting. Yes, the content is there, the menu is well organized, the payment procedure is not convenient to pay fast. I would not say it is greatly organized, but it is averagely organized and functional to buy their product. I believe the sequence of organization starting from pay me, and QR code is not organized to me, they are not banks so we can deposit. Merchant need to organize in such a way what they are selling first, then charge for it. It is ups and down organization. The navigation system is fairly easy starting it takes the user back to the menu easily. The only touch button allover the app makes it boring. What works is that the app is functional and the user can place order and pay. The app is good to use to find various location of their restaurants. The menu part s nicely done and this page is very visual of their great food. In addition, the app is good for to register for free meal on birthdays. What doesn t work for me is that this restaurant has chains and have great foods and healthy crowed. Their places are wide open, clean and self-ordering yet good looking environment. On the contrary, the app looks crowded, demanding and boring. The fonts are all over the place and unattractive, I just did not think it was design by a professional who design for restaurants. I know they have many phone orders from retired people for pick-up and their crowds are younger. The design neither old nor young. They could have designed vibrant, rich, colorful, and starting from their delicious food pictures. Cleaning up the crowed and overly done contents and organizing by priority will do the restaurant a nice service. Here is different, they could have used the two principles. Keep it Brief and Only show what I need when I need it. Way too much information, and show the food, the shopping card as the front runner, and the rest of the information clean it up and show it later. My final thought is that this app could be reorganized, for example, it is a restaurant, we would think what come first is the food. Instead they have the QR in front page in big. Then, when the user goes toward the menu, the food men is on line 10. I just did not like how it is organized, and I would suggest to prioritize by what is important and focus the content. Cleaning up the navigation process tight also would help. Finally, use different fonts and get rid of scratchy grey background.
7 Tripadvisor Yes, the design is appropriate for the target audience. The target audience seem to serve anyone in the world except young dependent children. This app is fantastic for those who want to travel for business, adventure or personal matter. Tourists, locals, business people, family, independent students, etc. could benefit finding out where to dine, rent a car, book their airlines, hotel, bakery, entertainments, cruse, things to do, nature and park, etc. Yes. Once the user sign up and create a new account via google, Facebook or by entering an , the navigation process become easy because there is a menu to choose from if the user want activity nearby, flight, restaurants, things to do, etc. There is also a search button makes it very helpful and clear to start. I believe the organization is very good and it is easy to go back and forth. The menu has icon plus description and it is nice. What I like about it is the system rate itself, for example, it will show the user the top 10 destinations with country name, capital city and recognizable photo. In other words, the content is rich and very helpful. It is well organized and must have app. The navigation is integrated and that makes the navigation process easy to move in the direction of the destination.
8 What is working is that this app is professionally made, easy to stay on it for a long time because of the white and earthy soft green gives a feeling of home. I would say, well thought, I am sure continuously updated to satisfy the users. They have a rating system and app feedback. Write a Review is also a great feature. This is a nice touch. Overall, it works well. I would not say that it is not working, but just to say something here, it is complex. Not everyone can use it to the fullest benefit, I believe people who are technology fans will take advantage of this app to the fullest. Finally, I like the scrolling calendar to pick a flight from and the ability to save the researches if the user mark it a great feature. Never lose my stuff and I should always know where I am apply for this app. The app can save what the user worked on as long as the user actively save. It is easy to know where the user is because the two various menus and search button. Overall, it is a very good app for international travelers, local travelers and to find a desirable place to go to, and get entertainment locations. The visual design is very simplified and it is to the point. There are plenty of photos of restaurants, countries and so on without being evasive during navigation. It flows well to achieve the desired results. I believe there is always room to upgrade, however, from my level of knowledge, it is well design app. Amharic Fidel (ፊደል) 1. is the design appropriate for the target audience? Who is the target audience? Yes, the design is appropriate for the target audience. The target audience would be young children learning an Ethiopian Alphabet and non-ethiopian who wants to learn the language
9 because they are planning to stay in Ethiopia for period or longer for personal, business, or both purposes. The target audience also may include the diaspora s children of all ages. Yes, the content is great and clear. What it makes it great is when the user press on the letter, the app has sound to pronounce correctly. In addition, there is an English matching letters available by the alphabets. The color coding is beautiful and playful, and the organization is decent. The navigation system is easy and plain. There is a back button to get back easily. This app is very simple, definitely for people who do not need to know much technology, like small children. What work is the coloring. It is alive and inviting. In addition, the letters are big and kids friendly. Another feature I adored was when pressing on the letter, it takes the user to the next page that allows to write over it and all around it for practice. In the same page, the letter is accompanied by the English letter phonetic writing. There is an icon to clean up what was practiced to start over while staying in the same page. That is great for children to practice over and over to reinforce their motor skills. Also, the first letter of each group is in blue and there is a sound to teach the pronunciation. What could be improved is that so far, only the first letter of the group letters in blue has sound pronunciation, having the sound pronunciation in all letters would make a big difference and in would be more engaging to the student. Delight me in surprising way and Decide for me but let me have the final say are incorporated for this app. Delighting because the sound and constantly pressing on a different letter and hear how it sounds and learning it is fun. Although it is not the biggest surprise, for the first timers listening to the pronunciation is surprising sounds. Deciding for me is because after pressing the user choice of letter, going to another page and drawing over the letters, continue re-drawing and experiencing gives the feeling of ownership to the user. The app has numbers as a drop down feature counting with sounds, this could have been repeated for all letters. I believe this app is decent and serve a good purpose to the targeted audience. Yes, the app could be upgraded by adding more animation, pictures to match for soled memorization and association. Pictures attract children and they would be interested to stay longer on this app. This app could risk to bore small children fast. The navigation and the user flow is decent because there is not much into this app, it is really simplified app and it is easy to use.
