This new version is simple and clearly-arranged, making it quick and easy to master for all users. The software provides advanced users with extensive and enhanced functions, making your translation teams even more productive. Our aim is to make the work of all those involved in a translation project simpler, quicker and better. Translation Memory in Context: What Makes Transit Different? While the sentence is the basic unit of language, it is not always a unit of meaning. As such, individual sentences do not necessarily communicate content. This is a principle which was taken into account in the first version of Transit, over 20 years ago. Although sentence-based translation systems do provide short-term savings potential, more and more companies are recognising the pitfalls of such systems and are instead relying on the longterm superiority of a content-based and context-sensitive translation approach. This is what makes Transit different. In contrast to other translation memory systems, Transit does away with a database which is exclusively sentence based; instead the full breadth of the context contained in a document remains available to your translators in the Transit reference material, making their work easier. This technique used in Transit of linking source and target documents at sentence, section or paragraph level (Transit reference material) is made all the more valuable if the translation matches will later be used to create source texts. Transit NXT brings this advantage even further to the fore to ensure that the important job of translation and document creation never takes place without the necessary contextual information. In the same way, Dynamic Linking also allows terminology entries and fuzzy matches to be related to the appropriate reference material.

5 Power functions All the core components of Transit NXT are visible at a glance. This means the Transit user interface can quickly be adapted to various job profiles, processes and working methods. Function buttons provide direct access to User roles, Dictionaries and Reference material speeding up the workflow. These buttons can also be used and configured by a Project Manager or other process owner who is not working on the project. Function buttons such as Interfaces, STAR James and Machine translation meet both active and passive requirements for interfacing with other systems, making integration with Transit even easier. As an example, the Interface function contains Transit filters for authoring systems from practically every field of application (MS Office, DTP, CMS/DMS systems, etc.). Standard formats such as XLIFF and TBX are also supported. Localization, fuzzy search in source and target text, and synchronised display of the original source and target documents (PDF/HTML/XML) are accessed and configured via the respective button. Enhanced document intelligence Transit NXT allows translation jobs to be completed in plain text mode, enabling the translator to concentrate purely on the text. Tags and markups can be edited separately from the translation process itself and are largely handled by the system through separate markup management. In addition to offering this uniquely preserved document intelligence, Transit also incorporates equally relevant layout/design intelligence (markups, tags and window positions). Document structures and hierarchies are also displayed through the document navigation function which indents paragraphs according to the source layout, for example File-based translation memory: context is key Transit is unique in that the translation memory is stored in a tagged XML file format. This creates plain-text language pairs that can be used directly as a translation memory (Transit reference material). This concept has proven its excellence over two decades of processing large quantities of data as a result of long-term collaboration with STAR Group service clients (including the major car makers).

6 Benefits for the user: Work files and TM files are stored in the same, editable file format. This means small file sizes, even for large translation memories, that are easy to manage and deliver worldwide, as well as extremely simple file handling using the File Manager. No complex database knowledge is required. Very easy to select selection of portions of large translation memories according to projectrelated criteria (attribution). This significantly increases matching probability during automatic pretranslation and delivers a critical advantage in terms of quality versus database systems. Easy to revise, change and clean-up translation memories. In particular, it is much easier to delete obsolete data. This means that your translation memory can easily be constantly improved and continues to be relevant and up-to-date, even over many years. The context of each segment stored in the translation memory and the associated document properties (structure, hierarchy, design) are preserved. This allows the results of automatic pretranslation to be reviewed at any time in context using the Transit concordance search function. By working with STAR MindReader, the context of each text suggestion and thus its suitability for the current text can also be verified. With Transit NXT, this feature gains even greater importance by ensuring that translation and editing never take place without the necessary contextual information. Quality problems arising from missing context are a thing of the past. With Transit's Dynamic Linking function, the translator receives terminology and fuzzy match suggestions, including corresponding context, from the Transit translation memory. Managing translation memory files in Transit is generally more secure than with database storage. Databases require an extensive IT infrastructure, particularly for very large amounts of data, in order to protect against data losses through system crashes, etc. In contrast, the simple, controlled structure of the Transit file-based translation memory requires no special knowledge and can be handled by any editor or translator seamlessly. Unicode support Transit was the world's first translation memory tool to perfectly display and process exotic languages (e.g., Asian languages and Arabic) by using double-byte Unicode. This quickly became one of its competitive advantages, which it maintains to this day.

Support for all current file formats: Transit offers interfaces to all current desktop publishing, word processing and standard file formats (CAD, PDM, etc.), thus optimising teamwork between editing and translation teams. During file import, Transit separates the text from metadata (such as layout) so that the translator can concentrate on the text to be translated without having to be familiar with a wide variety of programs. With Transit, translators use a single translation editor for all formats. After translation, during export, Transit merges the translated text with the metadata.

9 Collaborative teamwork with different working models Transit NXT can be integrated into any standard API workflow solution (such as the CLM platform or the STAR James workflow solution). Translation and localization in one Predefined text length For targetlanguage textswhich have predefined length constraints, Transit NXT checks the length of the text while you work, warning you by flagging sentences which exceed the predefined length. Another feature which can be configured to the users needs, text length corrections can be made both during and after translation. Localization in the Resource Editor Transit NXT supports the processing of binary formats (.exe,.dll). With the Resource Editor, the position and size of dialogue elements can be easily adjusted and aligned (dynamic preview). The corresponding adjustments are stored as coordinates in the target language files for automatic reuse in new projects (reference material leverage). Modified dialogue boxes are also documented in lists (feedback for developers). Change management - switching to Transit is easy Using existing translations without a translation memory With Transit, translation processes can be converted with no loss of data. Transit's built-in Alignment Tool enables you to use previous translations by creating a new Transit translation memory from existing text. Using the Alignment Tool, any matching sentences and sections in the source and target texts are interactively analysed and merged. Language pairs are thus created in the source and target language that can then be used as a translation memory for future projects. Any matching sentences in the new document are automatically translated with Transit. In addition, the Fuzzy Match function in Transit generates text suggestions during translation. This user-friendly technology provides significant cost and time savings while ensuring consistent translations and allowing your investment in Transit to pay for itself even sooner. Converting existing translation memories Thanks to state-of-the-art XML interfaces, TMX data interchange and a powerful database import module, converting to Transit is a stress-free process. You can easily convert your translations stored in a translation memory from another translation memory system to be seamlessly in Transit at a later date. This allows you to retain your investments in existing translations.

10 Benefit from multilingual document libraries. The Transit concept of context-sensitive translation memory based on reference material lets you use multilingual document libraries immediately for pretranslation. Language segment alignment is largely automated. Terminology consistency standardised corporate language with dynamic context linking Professional translations depend on accuracy of expression and consistency of terminology. This has been proven in day-to-day practice whenever terminology systems are closely tied to the translation environment. Searching for terms in the dictionary and inserting them into the translation is now easier than ever. Transit's built-in termbasefeature - TermStar - offers the translator and terminologist the perfect tool for managing specific terminology: A highly convenient and professional working environment is provided for managing terminology: with a click of the mouse or the press of a key, translators and terminologists can add terms to a terminology database where they are stored for automatic retrieval at any time. In combination with Transit, the innovative TermStar technology allows you to simultaneously search multiple dictionaries or databases. Any terms that already exist in the dictionary are highlighted in the text and displayed in the Dictionary window. By downloading WebTerm, Transit s web-based terminology management tool, you can integrate centrally-managed terminology into your local TermStar installation. Once downloaded, you are free to disconnect from the internet and work offline as needed. TermStar also allows multi-database access to your terminology. Terminology can be stored by subject matter in different databases and secondary dictionaries. Multiple dictionaries and databases can be simultaneously loaded, appearing as a uniform terminology list on your screen. This guarantees optimal terminology support.

11 TermStar, now with more matches The Fuzzy Search function in TermStar not only finds exact matches for searched terms, it also looks for any similar entries found in the dictionary. The expanded TermStar data model lets you manage "disallowed" terms, among other features. As in the case of automatic spell checks, the user is notified of these incorrect terms in the text and can correct these immediately. In addition, the layout of the Terminology Manager can be adapted to the specific needs of each user. Only those entries are displayed that are of importance to the user. This greatly increases translators ability to concentrate and delivers optimum results in terms of quality. TermStar supports more than 180 languages and language variants and runs on different databases: from MS Access to large database servers like Oracle, Sybase and MS-SQL. Fuzzy match search functions Transit provides the translator with recommended translations for the segment currently being translated (usually a sentence or paragraph). These suggestions are translations of similar segments found through the Fuzzy Match function in the Transit translation memory. Depending on the type of text, the threshold for identifying matches can be configured as needed. This ensures that the translator receives only suitable suggestions. Only those words or sentence portions that differ from the segment to be translated are then re-translated and edited - the rest of the segment is inserted with a simple keystroke. The result is an enormous increase in productivity while improving quality by leveraging previously verified text. If no fuzzy matches are found, the system automatically searches for similar sentence fragments through the Concordance Search function. Dual fuzzy text suggestions from both source and target languages If the translator decides to re-translate the text, the Target Fuzzy window opens "on the fly", displaying all relevant matches from the targetlanguage reference files and thus automatically improving the consistency of the text. In this same window, you can always access the reference material directly at the touch of a button, ensuring vital context is taken into account during translation.

12 Concordance search similar terms and partial sentences The concordance search function with fuzzy-match logic allows greater transparency in translations by allowing the translator to quickly and easily search for individual words, phrases or similar terms in the translation memory. Along with the search results, the relevant context in the source and target language is displayed. This allows you to easily verify, for instance, whether a selected translation containing terms used in previous translations is suitable for the current text. Concordance searches can be limited to the current project or expanded to include the entire translation memory in the source and/or target language. Concordance searches can also be limited strictly to terminology via the Dynamic Linking function in Transit. Additional high-performance functionalities Virtual segment joining. With Transit NXT, content between the source and target languages can be clearly linked, even if the number of segments in the two languages differs. This innovative concept allows Transit and reference material to be used in any number of language directions (multi-directional). Language projects with different source languages can now be completed efficiently with Transit using standard processes in accordance with the Single Source Principle. Automated Transit FFD file creation for XML projects The expanded XML interface in Transit NXT now allows the automated creation of Transit FFD files in the same way as project-specific DTD files.

13 Quality assurance functions To support quality assurance after translation, Transit features functions that allow the user to manually or automatically review numerous quality criteria (such as data integrity and completeness, spelling, compliance with prescribed or avoidance of prohibited terminology, etc.). According to this principle, Transit NXT now features redesigned user interface concepts (roles). Great care has been taken to ensure that the two aspects (process division and the expertise of the project participants) could be weighted and prioritized differently. Via the User Roles button (for role definition), the special skills of each process participant are taken into account and the Transit interfaces are automatically configured accordingly. Only those functions and views relevant to each role are made available, with functions relevant to other roles greyed out. This provides a clean and uncluttered interface for users, focussing on only those functions they need to get the job done quickly and efficiently. Users can change role at any time or expand it to include new functions as required. Task-optimized projects Logically, many translation and localization-related tasks are not conducted during translation. The Transit NXT user interface concept helps you conduct these tasks independently and discretely, thus promoting the distribution of work process among the appropriate specialists (optimization through logical work distribution). Transit NXT allows multiple project views to be combined as desired, thus enabling the selection of optimal work processes for each task, irrespective of the capabilities and availability of skilled personnel. WebSearch integrated internet search tool With Transit NXT 's new WebSearch function, you now have the ability to search the internet (e.g., find terminology online) at any time.

15 Workflow integration The optimal integration of Transit NXT into the STAR James workflow solution offers means users can use configured and customised roles, work packages and corresponding user interface settings automatically and the project experience gained can be incorporated into process automation. Machine translation integration For translation projects in which the client wishes to incorporate the results of automatic translation programs, Transit NXT features an open interface to such systems, accessible via the Machine Translation button. The controlled integration of machine translation into the Transit NXT translation process takes place logically on a client basis and in accordance with applicable requirements.
