Major online business database containing a variety of information sources: scholarly journals (dating back to early 1900s) conference proceedings working papers dissertations company, industry and market focused trade news (reports and publications) latest news from top sources like the Wall Street Journal and Financial Times Provides coverage of emerging issues in the marketplace

Use ABI/INFORM to help you: Locate company research, including company profiles and annual reports Find market research, including industry, market, and commodity reports Discover current business and economic conditions around the world Identify management techniques and corporate strategies

7 How do I search ABI/INFORM Complete? STEP 1: analyse your dissertation title and break it down into separate topics (concepts/ideas) STEP 2: list all keywords/phrases that describe each individual topic STEP 3: think about alternative words or phrases that describe each topic list alternative spelling variations for your keywords, e.g. organization or organisation; labor or labour List acronyms for any of your phrases e.g. IMF STEP 4: apply the search rules for ABI/INFORM Complete STEP 5: combine all your keywords and phrases using Boolean operators AND, OR

8 Search Rules Enclose phrases in quotation marks, e.g. International Monetary Fund = narrows a search Use * to replace 1 or more characters, e.g. audit* finds audit, audits, auditing, auditor, auditors = expands a search Use a? to replace a single character, e.g. organi?ation finds organisation and organization; audit? finds audit and audits = expands a search

Use Boolean operators AND OR NOT to control numbers of results AND narrows a search Retrieves all records containing all of the words it separates, e.g. risk management AND auditing will only find records containing the phrase risk management and keyword auditing NEAR/# narrows a search further Retrieves records where these words or phrases are within a fixed number of words of each other, e.g. risk management NEAR/10 internal auditing OR expands a search Retrieves records containing any of the words it separates, e.g. companies OR organisations will find records containing companies only, organisations only or both words
