3 Introduction < Introduction > i About this manual This document describes considerations for upgrading from STARDOM HMI/SCADA software ASTMAC VDS (hereinafter abbreviated as VDS) release 7 (R7) or release 6 (R6) to release 8 (R8). Specifically, some issues that need to be considered include Windows OS, development environment, termination of support for some optional software packages and migration to substitute implementations. 7 < 1. Overview> 1 1. Overview This migration guide describes considerations for upgrading from ASTMAC VDS (hereinafter known as VDS) release 7 (R7) or release 6 (R6) to release 8 (R8). Specifically, some issues that need to be considered include Windows OS, development environment, termination of support for some optional software packages and migration to substitute implementations. This document is useful when deciding on a release upgrade policy, preparing for release upgrade and estimating the required man-hours. When carrying out the actual release upgrade, follow the instructions given in VDS Release Upgrade Kit R8 (IM 34P02V07-01E). 10 < 1. Overview> Overview of VDS Viewer and Differences from the previous release This section gives an overview of the VDS R8/R7 VDS Viewer and compares its functions with R6. Overview of VDS Viewer What is VDS Viewer? VDS Viewer is a Java application (VDS HMI client function) developed by Yokogawa. Like Internet Explorer, VDS Viewer is a thin-client type graphic application, which enables remote display of operation and monitoring windows without requiring pre-installation of the application software on the client PC. VDS Viewer provides dedicated windows with graphic display functions and window control functions for displaying logon windows, object view windows, etc. Features of VDS Viewer Window size and position can be specified. The main window can be displayed in full screen mode, always at the back or always in front. Existing graphic files created in R6 or earlier versions can be used without modification. Frame display can be created easily by editing various system layout templates. Exiting from VDS Viewer automatically performs a logout and ends the session. Functional Differences between R8/R7 and R6 The table below lists the improvements in R8/R7 over R6 arising from the use of VDS Viewer, a java application developed by Yokogawa. Prepare license information Have on hand the current license information (ID Module No., Order ID Sheet) and the license information (License Seal No., Order ID Sheet) of the release upgrade kit. 2. Download release upgrade license Log in to the STARDOM License Management System (*1) and download the release upgrade kit. *1: The URL of this Yokogawa website is given on the order ID sheet.

14 < 2. Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> 8 Step 2: Upgrade system release 1. Create backup of VDS R7/R6 Create a backup of VDS configuration data, log data, work folder, data folder and HMI data files (for VDS). 2. Uninstall VDS R7/R6 and Java plug-ins Uninstall VDS R7/R6 and Java plug-ins. After release-upgrading to R8, VDS runs only on Windows 10 or Windows 7. So a computer installed Windows 10 or Windows 7 is required. Uninstalling VDS and Java Plug-in is unnecessary when using a new personal computer. 3. Upgrade peripheral software of VDS Set up peripheral software such as Microsoft Windows, Excel, and the development environment. 4. Install VDS R8 and JRE Install VDS R8 and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from the software media provided with VDS R8. TIP The default installation folder of VDS is C:\Program Files(x86) \YOKOGAWA\VDS on Windows 10 and 64-bit version of Windows 7. Even if C:\Program Files\YOKOGAWA\VDS is specified as an installation folder, a 32-bit application like VDS is installed in C:\Program Files(x86) \YOKOGAWA\VDS by the function of Windows. 5. Set up VDS R8 Register the license file obtained in step 1 to the ID module and perform initial setup. Restore all the backup data, and then remake the runtime set and copy the files. 6. Deal with functional differences between R7/R6and R8 Read Section 2.2, "Required Items and Work for Optional Software Packages and Functions Used" and perform the migration for functional differences between R7/R6 and R8 as required. To use HMI sets created in R6 or an earlier version in R8, read Appendix, Release Upgrade Procedure for HMI Sets. 7. Test operation Test system operation in the upgraded R8 environment. TIP To use a workspace previously created using VDS R5.50 or an earlier version in VDS/ASTMAC R8, export and then import the workspace using the Object Builder of the full-time version of VDS R6 on the first use. For details, read the release note by selecting [All Programs] [YOKOGAWA ASTMAC VDS] [Release Note] from the start menu.

Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> 11 IMPORTANT Before upgrading OPC Data Link Package for.net to R8 or later, please make sure to uninstall the former revision software with the uninstall tool, which is included on VDS software media DVD-ROM (NT201AJ). For more detail informations, see IM 34P02H51-01 "OPC Data Link Package for.net" (Japanese edition).

Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> Using VB Property Link Function (Standard Feature of R5/R4) Required Items Required Work Microsoft has terminated its support for Visual Basic 6.0 (VB6) so maintenance for this development environment is no longer available. Programs created under VB6 can still run on R8 but may not allow further development, modification or maintenance. If development, modification or maintenance of existing programs is required, migrate to the new development environment. Any user needs to take the migration risks. See Section 2.2.2, Using OPC Data Link Package for.net (NT336AJ). Migrate the development environment to Visual Studio NET Framework or Visual Studio NET Framework 4.6.2, and rebuild application programs previously created under VB6 using OPC Data Link Package for.net.

19 < 2. Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> Using Custom Driver Interface (NT341AJ) Required Items Required Work The development environment is Visual Basic 6.0 (VB6) on Windows XP SP3. Executable programs created under VB6 can run on both Windows 10 and Windows 7 but executable programs created under Visual Studio.NET 2003 cannot run on Windows 10 and Windows 7. Executable programs will run within Windows specifications. Microsoft has terminated its support for VB6 but maintenance of the development environment is required if existing custom drivers need to be modified or maintained. Windows XP and Visual Basic 6.0 Execute upgrading under Visual Basic 6.0 development environment. TIP VDS R8 or later are not available on Windows XP.

20 < 2. Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> Using Power Monitor Driver (NT366AJ) Required Items The Power Monitor Driver can not run on VDS R8. The power monitor UPM100/UPM101/PR300 can be connected by the standard function of the VDS basic software. This package is unnecessary. The power monitor UPM01/UPM02/UPM03/UZ005/PR201 can not be connected with VDS R8. None Required Work Connecting Power Monitors UPM100, UPM101 or PR300 to VDS (using VDS/ASTMAC Basic Software) Connection to these monitors is supported by VDS Basic Software so no additional work is required after upgrading to R8.

21 < 2. Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> Using Operation Shield Package (NT321AJ) Required Items Operation Shield Package can not run on VDS R8 On VDS R8, substitute software is required. Application control functions of the Operation Shield Package are supported as standard VDS Viewer functions. These functions include specifying topmost, backmost, maximized, full-screen window display and the maximum number of windows for VDS HMI Client, which is the operation monitoring environment specifying. Other than above mentioned functions does not fulfill on VDS R8. Table Substitute Software in R6 for Operation Shield Package Substitute Software Application restraint functions VDS Viewer is bundled on the VDS product DVD-ROM. VDS Viewer. No substitute implementation is available for the other functions.

Required Items and Work for Release Upgrade> Using Logging Function on Message Management Database (Standard Feature of R5/R4) Required Items Required Work The Message Management function of VDS R6 or later supports logging message log file, text file, message primitive. If messages are logged into a database in VDS R5, after migration to R8, create a program to send the data of the message log file to the database server (or directly to the client). 23 < Appendix HMI Set Upgrade Procedure> 17 Appendix HMI Set Upgrade Procedure To use an HMI set from R6 or earlier in R8 (VDS Viewer), you need to upgrade the HMI set using the following procedure. Editing of startup configuration file is a new feature added in R7. Back up customized files manually Back up engineering information using the backup tool Uninstall the older VDS version Install the new VDS version Execute Initial Setup Restore engineering information using the backup tool if required Re-execute Initial Setup (if restored) Restore customized files manually Edit layout template if required Edit startup configuration file Copy files to runtime set using HMI Deployment Tool Item Back up customized files manually Install the new VDS version Execute Initial Setup Restore engineering information using the backup tool if required Re-execute Initial Setup (if restored) Restore customized files manually Edit startup configuration file Copy files to runtime set Description Copy only customized files from the WORK folder to any folder as backup. Do not use the VDS backup tool here. Install the new VDS version on the PC using the installation procedure. Execute Initial Setup. When prompted whether to overwrite existing HMI sets in the WORK folder, select Yes. Restore engineering information using the backup tool if required. If engineering information has been restored, reexecute Initial Setup. When prompted whether to overwrite existing HMI sets in the WORK folder, select Yes. Copy the files backed up earlier in the Back up customized files manually step to the WORK folder. Do not use the VDS backup tool here. Depending on the VDS version before upgrade, sometimes customized files cannot be restored simply by copying the old files. In such cases, recustomize the files using the new R7 files. Edit the startup configuration file to configure the initial window display, etc. Run the HMI Deployment Tool. Select the Always button of the Overwrite group, select the Select File Type button and All check box of the Copy group, and then click the [Execute] button.
