2 Bixby A new way to do more. Bixby is the intelligent interface built into the Galaxy S8/S8+. With intelligent vision, a personalized home page, smart reminders and voice support for a number of Samsung and third party apps, getting things done has never been easier. Bixby knows your apps and can respond to questions and commands. Make a call, send a text, change your settings, find a photo or set an alarm. You can even ask Bixby to remember places and things in real life or online. To Use the Voice Features of Bixby Your device must be connected to the internet You must register and sign in to your Samsung account 2

3 Installation and Setup To begin, it s best to ensure that your Galaxy S8/S8+ firmware is up to date. Your baseband version should end in QEF. If it doesn t, check for an update from your carrier. If you are unable to update, it s ok, you can continue to use Bixby. Press the Bixby button located below the volume keys on the side of your device. Installation of all needed files for Bixby will be downloaded and installed. If you have not used Bixby as of yet, you will need to complete the Bixby onboarding process, including signing into your Samsung Account. Following the steps will set up the voice features of Bixby for your use. 3

4 Bixby supports many apps on your device, so make sure that all of your apps are fully updated to ensure they work well together. Bixby officially supports most native apps, but through Bixby Labs, there are additional apps that you can try right now. They are still under development, but feel free to try them out! Bixby is a powerful tool that can help you do many tasks and help you manage your device. However, it works differently than what you may have used before. To help you get familiar with Bixby, you can find many examples of what Bixby can do right in the app. You will find more information on My Bixby and Apps with voice later on in the guide. After completing the onboarding process, you are all set to use the voice features of Bixby! Bixby Disclaimers Voice command recognizes English (US) and Korean. Not all accents, dialects and expressions recognized. Service ability may vary by country. Voice command works with a select, growing list of Samsung and third-party apps; see Apps with Voice in Bixby for list of compatible apps. 4

5 Using Bixby Bixby Wake Up There are 2 ways to wake up Bixby: Press and hold the Bixby Button Say Hi Bixby To cancel a request, simply tap on the Bixby icon on the lower left To Use Verbal Wake Up Make sure you register your voice first and set up Bixby voice wake-up in Bixby Settings Settings Bixby Icon Bixby is listening. Say your request. Bixby is processing your request. Bixby is on standby. Tap this icon and say your request Press the Bixby Button Hold down the Bixby Button Bixby Icon FULL SCREEN 5

6 Bixby Understands What You Say Bixby can help you get the most out of your phone. Bixby is familiar with your settings and knows how to use your apps and can help you do things like take and share photos. You can speak rather naturally to Bixby and it will understand. Here are some examples of what you can say to Bixby: Call <contact>> Reject call with the message I will call you back in 10 minutes How much data have I used? Turn <<on, off>> my <Hotspot, Wi-Fi>> Turn on the flashlight Turn <<up, down>> the screen brightness Turn on power saving mode Post my last photo to <<Facebook, Instagram>> Show me my photos from New York Text <<contact>> with my location Save my parking location Remind me to take the garbage out when I get home Remind me to <<insert task>> in one hour Remind me to go to the gym every morning at 7AM Show me the last message from <<contact>> In 10 minutes, send my wife a message that I m leaving now Snooze alarm Don t lock screen for 30 minutes Search on Bixby Vision Translate this using Bixby Vision Do I need an umbrella today? 7 Find More Ways to Use Bixby To view Bixby supported apps and each app s suggested commands, open Bixby (tap Bixby button) and navigate to Apps with Voice via the menu in the upper right tap 7

8 Dictation Mode Bixby can also take dictation for when you need to write. Dictation mode is available anytime your virtual keyboard is active. Press and hold the Bixby button, begin speaking, and your spoken words will be converted to text! To Use Dictation Mode Make sure you enable Dictation on Keyboard in Bixby Settings Dictate a Message Search in Internet 8

9 Bixby Modes and Hints Bixby can be used in mini-view and in full screen mode. Answers to questions may be provided in full screen mode. In full screen mode, Bixby will suggest hints on commands you can say relevant to the screen or app being used FULL SCREEN 9

10 Chat with Bixby Bixby chatbot can provide fun responses such as wordplay, jokes, quick beatbox, etc. The chatbot will also respond if it does not know how to complete the request Error Handling Entertaining Wordplay 10
