Chapter 1 Preparing Your ipads for Q-interactive Q-interactive User Guide December 2016!
Configuring Your ipad Settings for Q-interactive Before you can administer tests with Q-interactive, you need complete three tasks: Configure the Settings for both ipads so they a) pair correctly to share stimuli and capture data from each other; b) display stimuli in a standardized manner; c) eliminate distractions which may disrupt the testing session. Install the Assess app from the Apple App store or itunes. Enable Bluetooth. The screenshots in this document were generated from an ipad operating on ios The content presented here is also presented in the training video, Preparing Your ipads for Q-interactive, found under the Support tab on qiactive.com. The following ipad configuration instructions and features are covered in this chapter. Adjusting Brightness Activating Wi-Fi Securing the ipad Setting the language and region format Installing Q-interactive Assess App Changing the Application Mode Turning on Audio Capture Activating Bluetooth If you are familiar with the ipad, you can quickly configure yours with the Q-interactive ipad Configuration Checklist, located in Appendix A. Other Resources: The information in this chapter is also presented in a tutorial video, Preparing your ipads for Q-interactive found under the Support tab and in the On-Boarding Q-interactive Webinar, Session 1: Q- interactive: Proper ipad Settings & Q-interactive Central Workflow. View the webinar schedule. 2
Become Familiar With Your ipad Take the time to become familiar with the ipad switches, buttons, and ports. (A) Front Camera. The ipad has two cameras: a front-facing camera primarily designed for FaceTime conversations and a back-facing on the back of the tablet. (The back camera is described in (E). The Front of Your ipad (B) Touchscreen Display. The ipad has a touchscreen, LED-backlit glass display screen. All you have to do to access an app is touch the icon on the screen. You can surf the Internet, compose messages, navigate apps, and change settings. The display screen has an oleophobic coating so it s easy to wipe off fingerprints and smudges. (C) Home Button. One of only hard four buttons on the device, and the only one on the front of the ipad, the Home button primarily acts as an escape option, but has other functions as well. 1. If you are in an app and press the Home button, you return to the Home screen where all your apps are displayed. 2. If you press the Home button twice in a row, you pull up the multitasking shelf that enables you to see recently run apps and shut down apps by swiping them off the top edge of the screen. 3. If you are on your Home screen and you press the Home button, you are taken to the Spotlight search screen. 4. If you have multiple Home screens and you press the Home button, it takes you back to the first page. 5. If your ipad is asleep and you press the Home button, the ipad wakes up. 6. If the ipad is awake and locked, press the Home button twice to display the ipad controls. The Back of your ipad (D) Sleep/Wake and On/Off Button. Located on the top right of the ipad is the Sleep/Wake button. 1. To put your ipad to sleep, press the Sleep/Wake button once. 2. To wake up your ipad, press the Sleep/Wake button once and slide your finger across the lock slider located at the bottom of the touchscreen to unlock your ipad. 3. To turn your ipad off completely, hold the Sleep/Wake button down for a few seconds, until the Slide To Power Off slider appears at the top of the screen. 4. To turn your ipad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple Logo appears and slide your finger across the lock slider to unlock your ipad. (E) Back Camera. The back-facing cameras is located along the back of the device, in the upper left corner. This camera shoots video and stills. You also can use it for FaceTime conversation, quick movie-making, or a still shot or two. The software offers a tap-to-focus feature and a digital zoom. (F) Side Switch. The Side Switch is located on the right side of the tablet, near the top. Click on Settings and tap General, and then tap Lock Rotation or Mute to lock the screen 3
orientation or to mute the sound. 1. If you choose Lock Rotation, toggle the screen-rotation switch on the side of the ipad to expose the orange dot. Your ipad will stay in the position you locked it in (landscape or portrait), regardless of how you re positioning the ipad. When the rotation lock is engaged, an icon with a small lock with an arrow around it appears on the right side of the status bar, near the battery icon. 2. If you select Mute in the Settings screen, the ipad s Silent mode engages and mutes alert noises. Be advised that you can still hear the audio from music and videos on the device s speaker when the ipad is in Silent mode. Back Side of Your ipad (G) Volume Up/Down Buttons. Directly below the Side Switch are the ipad s volume buttons. You can also quickly mute the ipad by holding down the bottom button for two seconds. These buttons affect app sounds, as well as audio and video playback. You can make these buttons affect your alert and ringer volume as well by enabling Change With Buttons in Settings -> General -> Sounds -> Ringer And Alerts. (H) Built-in Speaker. You ll find a speaker on the bottom right edge of the ipad (when facing forward). It will play anything that makes noise on your ipad, including music, video, or app sounds. (I) Dock-Connector Port. To charge your ipad, you use the device s dock-connector port, on the bottom center of the device. Keep in mind that only some Macs and AC adapters can charge the ipad. (J) Micro-SIM Card Tray. Available only on the Wi-Fi + LTE ipad models, the micro-sim card tray along the back left edge of the tablet is where your GSM SIM card is stored. With one of these cards and a cellular data plan, you can get LTE data service on your ipad. Even if you don t have an active LTE plan, you can still connect your ipad to the Internet over Wi-Fi. To eject a micro-sim card, insert the end of a paper clip into the small hole adjacent to the tray and push. (K) Headphone Jack. Located at the top left edge of the ipad is a standard 3.5mm audio jack. If you plug in headphones that have a microphone, the ipad will recognize it and allow you to use it for apps with audio-recording capabilities. Otherwise, the ipad will use its built-in microphone. (L) Microphone. The ipad s internal microphone is on the top center edge of the device, right above the front-facing camera. You can use it to record client audio in Q-interactive. Preparing your ipads for Q-interactive There are a handful of settings to be adjusted from their defaults on your ipads. These changes will help ensure the stimuli will display consistently during testing as well as eliminate disruptions during testing. These are all found within the Settings app. 4
Activate Wi-Fi. If you have a secured Wi-Fi connection, Q-interactive can stay connected to the Internet and will save your data to Q-interactive Central throughout the administration. Step 1: Under Settings Menu scroll until you locate Wi-Fi in the Settings Menu and tap it. Step 2: Turn Wi-Fi on by moving the toggle to the right. The toggle will change from white to green and Wi-Fi Network options will display. Choose your network and a checkmark will appear once connected. Display and Brightness Settings on both ipads. To ensure text and stimuli are displayed properly and to eliminate disruptions during testing, make the following adjustments: maximize brightness on both ipads and set auto-lock to 15 minutes. The following steps outline how to do so: Step 1: Scroll down until and tap Display & Brightness under the Setting menu. Step 2: Maximize the brightness by dragging your finger across until the line is solid blue and Turn off Auto- Brightness. Step 3: Set the auto-lock at 15 minutes. Tap 15 minutes until a checkmark appears. 5
Disable Gestures. Gestures can also be turned off on the client ipad to prevent the client from exiting the assessment session. Disable Auto-Correction and Auto-Capitalization. Our login credentials are case-sensitive. Adjusting these two settings helps address a common login difficulty with our customers. By disabling these two options, it helps ensure the accuracy when entering login credentials. Step 1: Within General Settings, tap the Keyboard option. Step 2: Disable the Auto-Correction and Auto-Capitalization options by tapping the switch until it turns white. 6
Set the passcode. In order to more securely protect your ipads, we recommend establishing a complex passcode. Newer ipads also feature Touch ID, which further secures your devices. Step 1: Locate and press Passcode in the Settings menu. Step 2: Turn off Simple password. You will be prompted to enter your old passcode and then create a new passcode. Set the language and region format. Q-interactive uses the language and region format settings from your ipad to display text, dates and other formatted values in the correct format for your country. This information also is used to contact Technical Support for your area. Step 1: Within General, scroll down the right side of the screen until you find Language and Region. Step 2: Adjust the Language and Region as needed. See the table below for options. Country, Region Format, and Language Options Country Region Format Language United States United States US English Australia Australia English (Australia) Canada Canada English (Canada) New Zealand Australia English (Australia) United Kingdom United Kingdom English (U.K) Netherlands Netherlands Dutch 7
Installing the Q-interactive Assess App Assess is an application that you can download from the Apple App Store found on your ipad or through itunes. To download the app through your computer, you need to have itunes installed. To install itunes, go to apple.com/itunes and follow the instructions to download the software. Before you can make the necessary updates to the Assess Setting, you need to install the Q-interactive Assess app on both devices. While you are able to download the app through either the computer or ipad, the instructions below walk you through how to download the Assess app through your ipad via the App Store. Step 1: On both devices, go to Search bar (top right on ipad) and type q-interactive. The Q-interactive Assess app appears in the Suggestions section. Step 2: Click GET, then enter your Apple ID credentials to download the app. Note For icloud users: Q-interactive stores data in a file intentionally excluded from icloud for reasons of data security. Assessment data will not be permitted in icloud nor permitted to sync to the Apple Servers. 8
Changing the application mode. Q-interactive requires two ipads, each serving a specific purpose. One ipad should be in Practitioner mode and the other ipad should be in Client Mode. Step 1: Scroll down the Setting Menu until you locate Q-interactive Assess and tap it. Step 2: On the right side of the screen, find Application Mode. Tap it. Step 3: Set one ipad to Practitioner Application Mode by touching on Practitioner. Set the other ipad to Client. Note For ipad Mini users: If you are using an ipad Mini or ipad Pro (the large one), it must be designated as the Practitioner s ipad for standardization purposes. Bluetooth Setting Activate Bluetooth. Bluetooth enables the ipads to talk to each other. The Practitioner ipad sends images to the Client s ipad and the Client s ipad sends the responses to the Practitioner s ipad. 9
Step 1: Tap Bluetooth and turn it on by tapping the switch until it turns green. Step 3: Scroll down the left panel and tap the Assess App icon. Step 4: Find Bluetooth name on the right of the screen. Tap this field, and enter a name. Make sure you type the same thing on both ipads. They cannot connect unless the Bluetooth name is the same for both. Be careful of extra spaces! Audio capture. For subtests where a client responds verbally to the stimuli, Q-interactive will record the client s response via the ipad. When scoring responses following testing, you can refer to the recording to validate or clarify scoring if necessary. However, in some instances you may be unable to obtain consent from a client for audio recording. You can deactivate the audio recording within the Assess settings. Note: You will only see this option AFTER logging into the App. Housekeeping Tips: Check the battery charge level before an assessment. Keep the ipads fully charged for assessments. Monitor the battery charge level in each ipad and have power cords available to connect if necessary. Do NOT run other applications on the ipad during assessment days. To turn off apps in the background: 1. Double click the Home button to display all apps that are currently open. 2. Place your finger on the image of the Q-interactive app and swipe your finger to the top of the screen to close the app. Reboot the ipads after each assessment session for optimal performance. 10
Appendix A. If you are familiar with the ipad, you can quickly configure yours with the following Configuration Checklist. Practitioner ipad Client ipad Setting Menu Choice (slide bar to far right) Maximum Auto-Brightness Auto-Lock 15 Minutes Gestures Keyboard, Auto- Correction Keyboard, Auto- Capitalization Application Mode Practitioner Application Mode Client Bluetooth Name Same name on both ipads 11
