7 General Information The following release notes provide important information about using the Tivoli/Plus modules. Please read these notes thoroughly before installing or using the Tivoli/Plus software. These release notes contain important information about: Supported hardware and software configurations Information for installing and upgrading Tivoli/Plus modules Known defects What this CDROM Contains The current version of the Tivoli/Plus CDROM contains Tivoli/Plus for BoKS version 1.0. Software Requirements for Tivoli/Plus Modules All of the machines on which you install a Tivoli/Plus module must be running in the Tivoli Management Environment* 10 (TME 10*) version 2.5 or higher. If you have additional questions, please contact Tivoli Customer Support at TIVOLI-8. Installing a Tivoli/Plus Module Before and after each application installation, Tivoli recommends that you back up your TME 10 database. This makes it possible to go back to the pre-application database if, for some reason, you encounter a problem while installing a particular module. From the TME 10 Desktop, select Backup to perform a backup of the TME 10 server and clients. You can also use the TME 10 Framework* wbkupdb command. See the documentation in the TME 10 Framework Reference Manual for details. A Tivoli/Plus module should be installed on the TMR server. In order to have full functionality, a Tivoli/Plus module should also be installed on the TME 10 Enterprise Console event server (if there is one) and the server of the application that is to be managed with the module. These machines must be Tivoli managed nodes. To install a Tivoli/Plus module, please follow the instructions given in the Getting Started chapter of the module s user guide. Remember, before installing any Tivoli applications, you should always back up your TME 10 database. Tivoli/Plus for BoKS Release Notes 3

8 General Information Reinstalling a Tivoli/Plus Module Installing Upgrades Each time you execute the installation procedure of a particular module, another copy of the TME 10 Distributed Monitoring* monitors (if you have TME 10 Distributed Monitoring) is added to the TME 10 Distributed Monitoring Profiles of your central and remote monitors. Adding new monitors, rather than overwriting the existing ones, preserves any modifications you may have made to the schedules, thresholds, severities and actions of the existing monitors. Use the same procedure for upgrading a Tivoli/Plus module as you used to install the module. Note: If you have modified any of the scripts in the module, you should copy them to a safe place before upgrading, as the upgrade process will overwrite the existing files. Installing with TME 10 Software Distribution on AIX 4.1 with a Power 2 Chip If you are installing a Tivoli/Plus module on AIX* 4.1 with a Power 2 chip into the Tivoli Management Environment that includes TME 10 Software Distribution* version 3.0, you need to have the TME 10 Software Distribution patch 3.0-COU-0001 installed. Otherwise, the Tivoli/Plus module may not install successfully. Adding TME 10 Products after Tivoli/Plus Installation If you install TME 10 Distributed Monitoring, TME 10 Software Distribution, or the TME 10 Enterprise Console after you have installed a Tivoli/Plus module, you must reinstall the Tivoli/Plus module to gain the benefits of the added application. If you have additional questions, please contact Tivoli Customer Support at TIVOLI-8. Running More Than One Tivoli/Plus Module in TME Although generally unlikely, it is possible that different Tivoli/Plus modules will have the same task execution script names. The Tivoli/Plus for OmniGuard/EAC and Tivoli/Plus for BoKS modules, for example, have the same script name for certain tasks. This situation is more likely to occur with modules belonging to the same area of application management, such as security. If you have two modules with the same task execution script names in TME , executing a task from one module may cause the other module s task to execute. This problem does not exist in TME , however, as TME has been upgraded to accommodate identical script names. Product Name Changes for TME 10 As a result of introducing Tivoli s new product line, Tivoli Management Environment 10 (TME 10), product names and publication titles have changed from the former Tivoli Management Environment (TME) to the new TME 10. 9 Known Defects Applying to All Tivoli/Plus Modules different release dates and because many of our customers have both TME and TME 10 products, you may find that the product names and publication titles referenced in your Tivoli/Plus documentation do not match the names and publication titles of other Tivoli products that you may be using. For your convenience, the following table shows the new TME 10 product names and their corresponding TME product names. Therefore, any previous customization of the Tivoli/Plus for BoKS Release Notes 5

11 Tivoli/Plus for BoKS 1.0 System Requirements The Tivoli/Plus for BoKS System module provides management of the BoKS version 4.2 server and client applications. The following table indicates the operating systems supported by the Tivoli/Plus for BoKS module.
