3 OVERVIEW This document announces the General Availability for the release of the Clearspan Communicator TM Desktop for the Windows-based and MacOS personal computer platforms. This document includes the release notes for the Clearspan Communicator Desktop for the following: Release for Windows Release for Mac DESCRIPTION Clearspan Communicator Desktop (version ) is an application installed on Windows-based and Apple MacOS PCs. The Communicator provides Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) with Clearspan call control and may include audio and video SIP softphone capabilities. The following product distinctions will be available for the Clearspan Communicator Desktop: Clearspan Communicator Lite a CTI-only application. No audio or video softphone capability. 5 NEW FEATURES This release of Clearspan Communicator Desktop has a significantly improved user interface which offers following changes: Blind Transfer for calls Conference menu option in Communication window to add participant with telephone number Redesigned location dialog with support for manual location and time zone input. Configuration option to disable emergency calls Proxy settings added to the preferences, client could now override system proxy settings with internal proxy parameters or be forced to connect directly. Application preferences are accessible from the login window. IMPROVEMENTS AND BUG FIXES IN THIS RELEASE Some of the key product improvements and bug fixes included in this release include: EV Clearspan Communicator Desktop for Windows and MAC behind Linksys NAT router CANCEL SIP message issue (BTUC-2225). EV : Clearspan Communicator Desktop for Windows and MAC Fail to register (SMX IMS) (BTUC-1507). EV : Soft client does not accept unsolicited NOTIFY for Message-summary at start (BTUC-1924). EV : Clearspan Communicator Desktop for Windows and MAC - Video call terminates causing PC client to hang in Busy/In-call state (BTUC-1976). EV : Clearspan Communicator Desktop for Windows and MAC Help inadequate for Windows/Mac Major Improvements planned for (BTUC-2003). 7 HARDWARE/OS REQUIREMENTS The following table outlines the system requirements for using the Clearspan Communicator: Hardware For basic voice and video services, the following is recommended: For voice calls, a sound card, speakers, and a microphone or a headset are required. For video calls, a web cam is required. A minimum of 1GB RAM is required, however, 1 GB is recommended. The installation footprint is 125 MB. Pentium 4 or higher with a minimum of 1 GHz; however, 1.5 GHz is recommended Open Graphics Library (OpenGL) 1.5 or higher is recommended. Calling may not be available in some older desktop models with incompatible OpenGL graphics drivers. OS Linux Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard Mac OS 10.7 Lion Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 8 (Classical view only) For HD video, the following is recommended: HD camera HD resolution support in display Pentium Quad Core or equivalent 2 GB RAM Aastra USA 6

8 UPGRADE INFORMATION Release of the Clearspan Communicator Desktop is compatible with the Release configuration files. However, to use new features such as Web Collaboration, Outlook integration, and LDAP support additional configuration parameters are required. When upgrading to Release , Aastra recommends uninstalling the previous version of Communicator or UC-One prior to installing the new version. When upgrading to the Release client, it is recommended to upgrade all instances of Clearspan Communicator Desktop clients on all the computers you use to Release Alternating between older 9.x versions and pre-release versions may have unexpected side-effects such as loss of contacts or subscriptions. This applies also to using 9.x on a different computer where is already installed. Data files for pre-releases must be removed prior to upgrading the client. If you never ran a prerelease, you can disregard these steps: On Windows: Check the Delete Profiles check box when uninstalling or upgrading from 9.3.x. Note that you lose chat history when doing this. On OSX: Press cmd-shift-g, and type '~/Library/Application Support/BroadSoft'. If you used a BroadTouch Business Communicator client from earlier than October 15, 2012, you should move the "BroadTouch Business Communicator" somewhere else, for example, on your desktop. If you have "UC One" installed, move that somewhere else, for example, on your desktop. If you want to preserve your chat history, then rename the "UC One" directory to "UC-One. The Setup and Configuration procedures for end users are documented in the Clearspan Communicator Desktop for Windows/MAC Quick Reference Guide. A copy of this document can be obtained from your Aastra representative if required. Aastra USA 7

9 KNOWN LIMITATIONS AND ISSUES This is the generally available version of the Clearspan Communicator Desktop. While thorough testing has been completed both in-house and through field trials with customers, there are still some known issues that are not considered to be gating to the GA status. This section describes the known limitations and issues that affect the Clearspan Communicator Desktop. Whenever possible, suggested workarounds are provided. INSTALLATION AND START-UP Some Windows XP computers are unable to access Device Management using Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure Sockets (HTTPS). The workaround is to reconfigure the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) to use Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). In some situations, audio devices connected to docking stations do not work. The workaround is to attach the audio devices directly to the Desktop. On Windows XP and Vista, the following package may be required prior to installing Clearspan Communicaotr Desktop: BRANDING In this release, the Clearspan Communicator Desktop will be branded as UC-One. CONNECTIVITY In some networks, Network Address Translation (NAT) devices, firewalls, home routers, and so on, have interfered with the SIP registration and therefore, a successfully completed client login process. The workaround is to check the NAT or firewall settings and verify whether they allow SIP traffic. The client automatically notices whether the network interface it uses becomes disconnected. The client also tries to reconnect using another network interface, if available. Depending on the operating system, there is a delay of up to one minute, to detect the lost connection. Aastra USA 8

10 If a client is exited while establishing a connection to a SIP-proxy responding slowly or not responding at all, the client process is only terminated once the connection establishment has timed out (EV ). AUDIO CALLS Some imac users have experienced that even though the mute button is activated, the call is actually not muted. There is no workaround. For OS X, if a user has configured the client to use a Universal Serial Bus (USB) audio device and the user unplugs that device, then the client does not automatically detect that the device was removed. Consequently, playing audio (ring signal, call audio, or notifications for incoming messages) fails until the audio device has been reconfigured in the Preferences. If call participants talk simultaneously, the current media framework decreases the volume of one peer so that one talker can be heard more clearly. There is no workaround. CALL LOGS/COMMUNICATION HISTORY The communication buttons at the bottom of the client window do not work for history items. There is no work-around; however, this functionality will be available in future releases. There is no right-click context menu for the client window do not work for history items. There is no workaround; however, this functionality will be available in future releases. CHAT Chat area is invisible on certain Windows setup s when using the client over Remote Desktop. COMMUNICATION WINDOWS In some rare cases, inviting participants to My Room does not work properly. Participants can still join the room by right-clicking the host and selecting Join Room. 11 The combination box for choosing optional phone numbers for selected contacts when transferring a call or adding participants to a communication session does not support keyboard navigation. MULTIPLE DEVICES The operation and behavior of the client is indeterminate if the multiple devices are using a single IM&P service account. The workaround is to logout of all but one IM&P client. OUTLOOK AND LDAP After first installation in rare cases the application gets stuck when performing the first Outlook search. Terminating and restarting the application in this rare case fixes the problem. Alternatively, selecting "Never warn me about suspicious activity" in Outlook s Trust Center for Programmatic access fixes the problem. Outlook integration is supported only on Windows. If the same contact is added first from Outlook contacts and then from Telephony directory, the contact merge does not occur and the contact can appear in contact list without an IM&P address. If Outlook search or calendar presence is enabled but the user has an incomplete Outlook set-up, the search result view contains the Outlook-group but no actual results. Additionally, a set-up dialog prompt to complete Outlook settings interrupts the user each time Communicator accesses Outlook data sources for presence or searches content. The workaround is to disable Outlook search and calendar integration. Clearspan Communicator does not initiate LDAP search if authentication required = false. PRESENCE If presence authorizations are set using third-party Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) applications while the Clearspan Communicator Desktop is not connected, presence may possibly be unidirectional. In these cases, Clearspan Communicator Desktop users may not see the presence status correctly. The workaround is to unsubscribe and then subscribe operations under Options to trigger an authorization query again. Once the peer has accepted the buddy request, the presence once again has two Aastra USA 10

12 directions. In future versions of Clearspan Communicator Desktop, the unidirectional presence subscriptions will be revisited. Location data is only visible for users using Clearspan Communicator Desktop versions and above. Manually set location and time zone data is visible only to users running version and above. Location data is acquired based on public IP-address. This might lead to wrong location data being published. There is no workaround for this. Local time zone is similarly acquired from the network and that does not always recognize Day-light savings time. Thus, the local time might be 1 hour off. There is no workaround. SERVICE MANAGEMENT To limit the amount of Xtended Server Interface traffic to the server, the Call Settings window is only refreshed once a window is opened. VIDEO CALLS N-Way Conferencing is not supported during a video call. The workaround is to downgrade the call to audio only and then the N-Way Conferencing button becomes available. If a video call is started with part of the video window outside of the screen, the outside area is sometimes black. There is currently no workaround. Incoming video stream sometimes freezes with certain video conference services. There is no workaround. Video call to group does not work. Video calls might fail on some Dell laptops with higher resolutions. The problem relates to the camera drivers. There is no workaround but using smaller resolutions allow users to make video calls. The resolution is changed through Preferences Video Video Size. Aastra USA 11

13 OTHER Periodically, there may be a crash on an OSX system when resuming from standby or hibernate mode, particularly when the network has changed. Additionally on OSX, there have been reports of rare sporadic crashes. There is no workaround. On some PCs with lower capability video cards, certain components of the user interface (UI) appear blurry. There is no workaround. If an Xsi password is changed while Communicator is logged in, the user account can get locked, since the client continues to make HTTP requests with the old authentication credentials. Periodically, there may be a crash if a user repeatedly logs out and in rapidly. Attended (Announced) transfer is not supported in this release. Ad-hoc conference call origination is not supported in this release. Aastra On Demand Web Collaboration is not available in this release. In certain cases, the PC version of the Clearspan Communicator may delay the ACK signalling on an outbound call. Aastra USA 12
