4 1. Introduction handles the communication between the detector boards and the bus interface unit (BIU) to interface with a TS2 controller using SDLC. also establishes the communication between the detector boards and PC. transmits traffic data and events from the detector boards to the PC via Ethernet communication. In addition, does the compression of images and records image sequences in case of an event. These image sequences include pre- and post incident images. A board with communication via Ethernet is IP-addressable. A web server with dynamic HTML pages is running on with Ethernet communication. The HTML pages provide access to a series of functionalities such as streaming video, real-time data reports and the setup of the detector boards. This facilitates remote administration. The web server pages are accessible via a standard browser on multiple platforms. 1

Figure 4: Main use of the keypad in the setup mode The setup of the board is a 3-step process. STEP 1 Set the general parameters Verify the default settings of language, system of units, date and time. STEP 2 Set the communication parameters - Communication and BIU module - Communication and detector boards: Set the number of cameras. Define the interval for data retrieval. - Communication and PC STEP 3 Set the parameters for image compression and image sequences 4

8 4. Setup of the board 4.1. Set the general parameters You set the general parameters via the menu General. Language System Name Date & Time Set the language for menus and submenus. Default: English {Selection: English, French, Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish} Assign a name to the board. The name identifies the board. Default: NAZTEC {up to 15 alphanumeric characters} Change date and/or time. Date format: MMM DD YYYY Time format: 24-h (hh:mm) Date and time are set automatically by the board. also synchronises the date and time settings of all detector boards connected. Daylight saving time Both daylight saving time systems in the USA are supported. Default: Off {Selection: Off, USA<2007, USA>2007, Europe} USA < 2007: start first Sunday in April, end last Sunday in October USA > 2007: start second Sunday in March, end first Sunday in November The general menu also contains parameters to save, load or erase a configuration (complete setup of the board). can have save four different configurations to be activated on request. Save Load Erase Assign a name and save the configuration. Select the configuration you wish to activate. Select the configuration you wish to erase. After erasing all configurations the default settings are restored. 5

9 4.2. Set the communication parameters You set the communication parameters via the menu Communication. 1. Communication between and PC Communication between and the PC goes via Ethernet. If you choose not to connect the board to the PC setup of the images menu (see Set the image parameters) does not apply. You are not able to access via the Internet browser then (as described in via the Internet browser). System IP Subnet Mask Default Gateway Define the IP address of. This is a unique IP address within the network. Define the subnet mask. This parameter allows to send data packages to other networks. The settings depend on the network environment. "127" as the first three digits refers to a disabled function. 2. Communication between and BIU module Streaming Video Address Baudrate Do not change default settings. Default: Off Do not change default settings. Default: 00 Set the baud rate to Protocol Type Do not change default settings. Default: COMNEW Do not change default settings. Default: Direct Note: The Naztec submenu enables to view debug info (set Debug Info to 01) and to change the timeout settings (Slave Timeout) when the performance of the network does not allow for optimum performance of. 6

10 3. Communication between detector boards and Number of cameras Data Integration Interval Set the number of cameras connected to. Default: 6 {Selection: 0 to 12} Set the time interval for data retrieval from the detector boards. Default: 1 min {Selection: 5, 10, 20 and 30 s, 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15, 30 and 60 min} Note: writes the data into a circular buffer of 8 records. The PC should retrieve the data within 8 times the data integration interval. If not the oldest data are lost Set the image parameters You set up the compression of images and the creation of image sequences via the menu Images. The degree of compression determines the quality of the recorded images. Image quality Low Medium High Super High Image size 7 K 10 K 20 K 40 K Figure 5: Image quality versus image size 7

11 Video input Quality Select the video norm used of the video input to the detector boards. The video norm applies to the video output of also. Default: NTSC {Selection: PAL, NTSC} Set the quality of the recorded images. Default: Medium {Selection: Low, Medium, High, and Super High} Record Time Pre-incident Time Set the recording time in case of an event. The recording time includes pre- and post incident recording. Default: 50 s {Range: 1 s to a maximum} This maximum is defined by the number of detector boards and by the quality of the recorded images. Set the pre-incident time. The pre-incident time is the time before a board has detected an incident. The post incident time is the record time minus this pre-incident time. You set the pre-incident time shorter than or equal to the recording time. The pre-incident time can also be nil. In this case there are no pre-incident images. Example The record time is set to 50 s and the pre-incident time to 30 s. The images from the last 30 seconds are stored in a circular buffer of. In case of an incident another 20 seconds are recorded. then transmits 50 seconds of recording to the PC. Interval The interval defines the frame rate of the images. The parameter controls the time between two images of a detector board. In operation mode places images from each detector board in its circular buffer. After the last detector waits until the image interval is over. Then takes the next image of the first detector board. Default: the minimum possible interval for recording This minimum depends on the number of detector boards. Event Selection Select the events and alarms to create image sequences for. Default: No events or alarms selected Video Input Selection Select the camera to generate image sequences from upon an event or alarm. You can select the video input per detector board. Default: Auto (according to the position in the rack) {Selection: Auto, Off, Slot 1 to 12} 8

12 4.4. Switch to the operational mode Finally you switch to the operational mode of. Press the Escape key to exit all menus. The board saves the setup parameters. The monitor displays the saving message. The board is operational when this message has disappeared. Windows XP is taken as a reference in the explanation below. In our example we use the following IP addresses: IP = (factory default setting) PC IP = An IP address is a unique address. It consists of 4 groups of each 3 digits. With a crosslink cable you need to make sure that the first 3 groups of digits are the same, i.e. " " on both devices. For the 4th group, you put a unique number between "1" and "255". Traficon advises to use a number below Specify an IP address for : (see 1. Communication between and PC) 2 Specify an IP address for the PC: Click Start, then right-click My Network Places. Select Properties from the drop-down menu. Right click Local Area Connection and select Properties from the drop-down menu. The following window appears. 21

25 Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the items list by clicking. Click Properties. The following window appears. Check the box Use the following IP address. Enter the IP address and the subnet mask. In our example: IP address: and subnet mask: Click OK. Depending on the operating system you may need to reboot the PC. As a result communication between the PC and is enabled. Now you can start the Internet browser and browse to the homepage. 22
