4. Using Elecard MultiStream Player 4.1 Describing Elecard MultiStream Player GUI The following section describes the Elecard MultiStream Player GUI. MultiStream Player is started as system service. In the application window, each channel is represented as a video output area (console). Each console contains the following indicators: signal level for the left and right audio channels, title (at the top) and current bitrate status bar (at the bottom). Figure 8. Elecard MultiStream Player GUI Main Window A window with empty (non-configured) consoles opens at the first start of MultiStream Player. For more details on configuration, see the Configuring Consoles section It is possible to edit the number of consoles to be viewed (but not more than the number of acquired licenses). You can simultaneously view two consoles in two different windows and display the windows on two different screens (if several screens are connected to the PC). It is possible to enable multipage mode in the application (two pages are set by default). Multipage mode enables the display of one group of consoles within the stated time and then switches to the other group. This mode is quite helpful for PCs with performance insufficient for simultaneous display of all consoles. Display mode is configurable: one channel can be displayed in full screen. Audio playback is automatically enabled in the full-screen mode. 14

Several notification types are provided in the application in case of a monitored signal failure: sound notification, , sms notification and SNMP. In case of video stream interruption, the No video signal status is displayed, accompanied by an elapsed time showing the length of the outage. 4.2 Describing Elecard MultiStream Player Pop-up Menu MultiStream Player does not have a standard control board. Control is performed by right-clicking and opening a pop-up menu. Figure 9. Elecard MultiStream Player Pop-up Menu Using the pop-up menu, it is possible to control the application and single consoles. According to the current condition of the pop-up menu points their names can automatically change (for example, Start Stop, Unmute Mute). Most of the commands can be performed by pressing hot-keys without clicking. Each command indicated in the pop-up menu is described below. 4.3 Configuring Consoles Before proceeding with the configuration, it is vital to understand whether your platform supports Intel Quick Sync hardware acceleration (normally, Quick Sync-enabled CPUs have "Intel HD Graphics xxxx" in the name/description), see the Supported Formats and Interfaces section for details. If your platform meets this requirement, Elecard recommends enabling hardware acceleration for better performance. To switch on hardware acceleration, open the pop-up menu and enable the following checkbox: Options Use hardware acceleration. Note: the Use hardware acceleration checkbox should be enabled or disabled before configuring the console. Enabling/disabling the checkbox does not affect the playback (decoding) schema that has already been set up for the console. If you want to re-configure a console, clear it, enable/disable the checkbox and reconfigure the console. To set up a channel, start the configurator by opening the pop-up menu and selecting Configure. Enter URI of the selected stream source in the window that opens. If there are multiple interfaces in the 15

system, URI should look as follows: Figure 10. The Configure Window network interface receiving broadcast :1234 multicast address and port. If you have only one network interface, you may enter broadcast address and port number only. For example, udp:// :1234. This relates to RTP, RTSP и HTTP broadcast as well. In case of a file playback, specify a path to this file. To open configurator (i.e. a window with advanced channel reception setting) select the Configure (advanced) button. It is used to configure monitoring without rendering or decoding, or to select an audio track or to receive a stream from the capture card, etc. To select a source type and set its parameters, go to the Input settings tab. For various sources, these parameters may differ. The parameters highlighted in red must be filled. It is required to set up the parameters of the stream to be broadcasted (address, port, etc.) when selecting IP source template. The values of these parameters can be set up automatically by invoking the list of available announcements in the Multicast Group or Unicast Address field and selecting one of them. Figure 11. New Schema Configurator Input Settings tab You can also add multiple sources of input streams. To add a new source, click the "+" tab. Open the Input tab by clicking Next or opening the corresponding tab that displays all available 16

elementary streams (if the source parameters have been set up correctly). The program automatically applies the desired profile to one video and one audio streams. These settings can be edited manually. Figure 12. New Schema Configurator Input tab Switch to the Output tab (by clicking the Next button) where output devices are automatically set up for the selected video and audio streams and click the Save button. Figure 13. New Schema Configurator Output tab Playing back of the stream being received starts in the configured console in a while. Configurator (Configure (advanced) opens in the edit mode when invoking for the configured channel. This mode enables you to edit the input settings or select other elementary streams. To view a current graph during the configurator operation, click the View Graph button. 17

Figure 14. View Graph To view the graph filtering settings right-click it. Open Manager for editing the filter settings. If the channel has already been configured, but you would like to re-configure it "from scratch", reset its settings by pressing Ctrl+X or selecting Clear in the pop-up menu. A confirmation dialog box opens. To reset the settings of all consoles at once, open the pop-up menu and click Clear All. The Console N caption is displayed in a channel caption field at the first start of the application. The caption can be edited according to the stream being played back. Right-click the caption to be edited, the Change caption dialog box opens. Figure 15. New Caption In case of video stream interruption, the No video signal status is displayed, accompanied by an elapsed time showing the length of the outage. The audio outage length is displayed in the pop-up window on the audio level indicator. Figure 16. No Video Signal 18

4.4 Playback Control To turn on/off sound for the selected console: select Unmute/Mute from the pop-up menu or left-click the selected console and press M. Note: the consoles are played back in a Mute mode by default. However, if a console is opened in the Full screen (see details below) mode, it automatically enables audio track output. If you go back to the multi-channel monitoring mode, it automatically disables audio track output. If the console sound is turned off by default, the Unmute parameter is displayed in the pop-up menu; if the console sound is turned on, the parameter automatically changes to Mute. Indicators display configuration of a console title (Caption), audio tracks indicator (Audio), and bitrate of an input stream (Bitrate). It is possible to enable/disable all indicators at once (press I). All indicators are enabled or disabled in the application consoles or active window (if the application is configured for several windows as described in the Window Control section). To playback the selected console stream, click Start (or press the spacebar). As soon as the console is switched to the Play mode, the button name should automatically change to Stop (or press the spacebar). If playback is stopped, then the STOPPED sign should be displayed in the console to differentiate it from the empty (non-configured) ones. Figure 17. Stopped Sign To display a channel in a full size, double-click the console area. Full screen mode also enables audio track output. The selected channel can be displayed in full screen mode by selecting Full screen from the pop-up menu. To return to multi-channel monitoring mode, double-click the console window or press Esc. To open the application window as a full-sized screen, press F11. It hides the Windows task bar and application window controls. To exit the full screen mode, press F11 again 4.5 Window Control MultiStream Player software allows output to multiple displays. It is possible to create an additional window for visual broadcast monitoring by selecting New Window in the pop-up menu or by pressing Ctrl+N. Note: a new window can be created only if the total number of consoles does not exceed the number of acquired licenses. The number of channels (consoles) displayed in a single window can be set up by selecting Change window size in the pop-up menu. 19

Figure 18. Changing the Number of Consoles If you close a window, you will not delete it. It appears again as soon as you start MultiStream Player. To delete it, right-click the window, open the pop-up menu and select Delete window (available for additional windows only). Note: the Delete window menu and the function appear only for the last created window. For example, if several extra windows have been recently created (Window 2, Window 3, Window 4), the Delete window function is applicable only for Window 4. The application window size changing does not affect the configured console settings. For example, size of the application window is 3 x 4 consoles (12 consoles in total), each console performs the assigned task. If an operator changes the window size to 3 x 3 consoles (9 consoles in total), the nondisplayed (excluded) consoles (10 th, 11 th and 12 th ) are Stopped, and all the configurations are saved. If a window size is increased, the consoles 10 th, 11 th, and 12 th will switch to the Play mode and continue performing the assigned tasks. Correspondingly, if the configured console is not included in the main or additional window and is not displayed, it means that the console is stopped, and the coding process is not performed. Note, that in multi-window mode the indicators (Caption, Audio, Bitrate) configuration and the Clear all function are applicable to an active (selected) window only. 4.6 Playlist Control A set of consoles with channels represents a playlist that can be saved to or downloaded from the hard drive. The following pop-up menu options are used to control or manage the playlist: Save playlist - allows saving of console settings into an EPLS file. Load playlist allows exporting console settings from a playlist saved before. The application supports special format EPLS (such playlists contain decoding schemas) along with the standard formats M3U and M3U8. When opening a playlist in one of the two latter formats, a playback delay is possible as it takes time to build the decoding schemas. Page up/page down - allows switching between next and previous playlist pages by selecting Page up/page down in the pop-up menu or pressing the Page up/page down keys. For example, if your MultiStream Player license covers N consoles, you can simultaneously monitor not more than N channels. It does not mean that you have to change the playlist to playback another N channels. You can use the playlist page switching function for better convenience. Having configured the first set of N consoles, select Page down in the pop-up menu (or press the Page down key) and configure the next set of N consoles, etc. Now you can switch between the consoles by pressing the PageUpp/PageDown/ Home hotkeys or by selecting Pages Page Up / Page Down / First page in the pop-up menu. The number of playlist pages is limited by your license. The application is provided along with two 20

switching pages by default. However, the number of pages can be increased upon a customer's request. This feature enables you to view more channels (by switching between pages) than your hardware typically allows. To enable automatic switching between pages in a specified period, select Pages Start auto scrolling in the pop-up menu (or press Ctrl+PageDown). The Start auto scrolling dialog window opens, enter interval values for automatic page switching. Default interval is 30 seconds. Figure 19. Start Auto Scrolling After clicking the OK button auto-scrolling is started. A window caption displays Auto-scrolling and a page number (e.g. Pge 2), if it is not a generic page. To exit auto-scrolling mode select Pages Stop auto scrolling in the pop-up menu or press Ctrl+PageDown. The page that is active (selected) at the stop of auto scrolling will be displayed. Figure 20. Elecard MultiStream Player Auto Scrolling Window 4.7 Setting up Notifications It is possible to set up notifications to be sent via SNMP or or to be logged to a file as follows: Pop-up menu Options Notification option. To configure general settings (the settings applied to all consoles), click the Notification option button. 21

Figure 21. Error Notification Notifications are performed via SNMP trap. Send notification when an error happens enables all notifications. It is required to enter at least one community name on the Traps tab requires, enter public (it is casesensitive). To add the computer names which are supposed to receive SNMP-messages, click the Add button in the Trap Destinations list. A dialog box opens where it is required to type the name, IP or IPX address of the host and click Add. The host name or address appears in the Trap destinations list. Click Ok. SNMP installation on the Client-side is completed. 6.3 Installing SNMP on the Manager-side For proper operation of SNMP manager, it is required to install SNMP service (see Installing SNMP on the Client-side), and to install a software for traps receiving. For example, ireasoning MIB Browser. Add files (located in the root folder of MultiStream Player: ELECARD-MIB.txt and ELECARD- MULTISTREAMPLAYER-MIB.txt) to ireasoning MIB Browser and configure MIB Browser to work with one or several agents. 41

7. Integration with Other Elecard Products 7.1 Inheriting Properties from Elecard CodecWorks Elecard MultiStream Player software is based on Elecard CodecWorks Encoder software and has inherited most of its features, including MultiStream Player Manager, configurator, graph visualization, etc. You can learn more about using console manager in the Elecard CodecWorks, the CodecWorks Manager section, that can be found at the web-site: Furthermore, the guide explains how to manage from the command prompt over HTTP and over SNMP. This information may be useful if Elecard MultiStream Player is supposed to be integrated into third-party solutions. Note, that Elecard MultiStream Player uses port

8.1 Configuration Keys 8. Appendix 1 SNMP="1" control over SNMP. (="0" disabled) SNMPLog log management over SNMP. (="0" log disabled) Encoding code page, application interface. "Windows-1251" is set by default. SequentialConsoleStart = "1" start consoles in sequence, but not simultaneously, to avoid conflict at the application start. MultiStreamPlayerConsoles the maximum number of consoles to be displayed in the application. It is used for customizable builds of the application. StartTimeout time (in seconds) allotted for a successful start of a console. If the allotted time is exceeded, the console is restarted. Default allotted time 10 sec. DefaultDecoder="QS Video Decode" default enabling of hardware acceleration of video decoding process. GPU="1" displays a loading level of GPU core (is useful for QS and when loading level is near to the maximum limit). 8.2 Channels Calibration Console calibration is automatically performed if Video freeze / Black screen is enabled in the error notification system settings (see Setting up Notifications). Video freeze analysis and signal loss (black screen) is performed by comparing input data with the reference values. To obtain the reference values, calibration is required. The console application cwmanagerconsole.exe is used for the console calibration. The application is located in the same folder with installed Multistream Player. The default folder is C:\Program Files\Elecard\Elecard MultiStream Player\. If cwmanagerconsole.exe is started from the console without a key or with the /help key, the following information should be displayed: Usage: cwmanagerconsole.exe command_name [parameters] [/host ip_address:port] [/console console_number] cwmanagerconsole.exe /diagnostics [/host ip_address:port] cwmanagerconsole.exe /help cwmanagerconsole.exe /help commands To calibrate all channels, type the CalibrateAll command in cwmanagerconsole.exe, all set channels should be calibrated within 60 seconds. Reference data is saved in the folder C:\ProgramData\Elecard\CodecWorks-01\Events\. If 60 seconds as calibration time is not acceptable, specify the desired period. The command format is: cwmanagerconsole.exe CalibrateAll duration_in_seconds. For example, cwmanagerconsole.exe CalibrateAll 90. If a new console is added and it requires calibration, execute the following command: cwmanagerconsole.exe Calibrate /console 12, where 12 is a console number. Note: It is impossible to set calibration period when calibrating a new console only, the process can be terminated by pressing the ESC button only. To calibrate the channels and to save the calibration results, confirm the commands each time by 43

pressing the Y (yes) button. Note: For multiscreen mode console calibration and the Video freeze / Black screen errors analysis is not reasonable. 44
