1 The Production tool is a vertical order planning tool and reviewer. The production tool is where you create your issue MIB that is the file you will upload to Mag+ Publish in order to integrate the content in your app. Installation Consult our web site at to see how to install our software. Setup Folder structure Before getting into the new software setup it is easiest to organize your files and folders. While it doesn t matter for Mag+ where you keep your work files, exported verticals are organized in a folder shared by InDesign and. For an introduction on how to set up your files we have included a folder setup example in the installation files (Mag+ Examples folder under Mag+ folder in Applications/Programs) BrandName is the name of the owner of the publication, e.g. the publisher or the client you are creating a magazine for. MagazineTitle is the name of the publication (e.g. Popular Photography) Store the magplus.mags file here and any assets you ve created for your app, such as the icon, load screens and itunes certificates. Issue (e.g., July 2011) Select this as your Issue folder in the Mag+ Design plug-in and Production Tool. The plug-in will export verticals here, and the Production Tool will display those exported verticals. Production Tool Set-up Open the and in the Mag+ Production tab (default view), locate Issue. Click the + next to the dropdown-menu, locate the Issue folder again and click Select. Set up your Brand in MagProd The magplus.mags file is the resource that the Production Tool needs to create and identify MIBs. It is created and edited from the tab Settings and contains a unique identifier like this: com.companyname.magplus.magazinetitle.2011_01 In this example com.companyname.magplus.magazinetitle is the Brand ID and 2011_01 is the Issue ID. To create a new.mags file for your brand, open the Production Tool and then File > Open brand settings editor. Then click New and fill in Brand ID (e.g. popphoto this becomes part of the file name of the MIBs generated by the tool), Brand description (e.g. Popular Photography magazine this is simply for your reference) and choose the latest MIB version. 2 dropdown menu on the main page. You can use the same Magplus.mags file for all issues under the same brand. To edit an already created mags file, open the Production Tool and then go to Preferences. Click edit next to Local brand settings. Switching Brands In the main tab and the Brand drop down you can switch between your different brands. The selected Brand affects your GUID. So if you want to make a one time special brand extension, e.g. a summer special and publish it in a specific app, you will have to create a new Brand. If you want to have that special issue, use the same Brand as those previous issues. Linking the Production Tool with the Reviewer App When reviewing verticals from the Production Tool, the Reviewer App automatically downloads and displays your output. On the ipad: 1. Go to Settings and select Mag+ Reviewer under Apps in the menu on the left 2. Select Authoring Settings 3. Under Push Service, check that it s enabled and on Port Start the Mag+ Reviewer App 5. At the top of the screen your Menu should appear. (If it doesn t, tap anywhere on the screen). 6. In the Menu bar at the top, tap User settings and log in. 7. Tap Help in the Menu bar and your ipad IP- and port number is shown next to Push Service. On the computer: 1. Open the 2. Select the Preferences Tab 3. If you already have the IP entered in the Plug-In, the Production Tool will have identified it. Otherwise click the + button by the Mib push address dropdown box. 4. Enter the IP address (e.g., ) displayed on your ipad and leave the port set to Click OK. 6. Make sure to click the Push box in the Mag+ Production tab in order to review on the ipad. 3 Issues Management Add new Issue Click + button right of Issue. You are now presented with the Select issue root folder window. Select the folder where your files related to this issue are be stored. Issue Id The issue Id is important since it identifies and separates issues from one another. Suggested naming conventions uses date (only year, year and month, year and week) and issue number (e.g. YYYY_Nbr or YYMMnbr). This ID is used in your GUID. Orientation Here you can set an override orientation. If you want your whole issue to only be viewable in either portrait or landscape select those options. If you select auto, the orientation will be according to the settings used in the Plug-In. MIB version The suggestion is to always use the latest version for production. This option can be toggled to produce a lower MIB version in case of opening an issue created in an old version to make small adjustments instead of re-exporting the whole issue in the new format. GUID Here you can see the GUID of your MIB. It is automatically generated from the BrandID and IssueID and a sequence number. Save This button is for saving your issue, it lights up green to remember you press it. You can also press Cmd + S (Mac), Ctrl+S (Windows) to save. Refresh In case you don t see your exported verticals in the clipboard. Press this button to manually update the Production Tool. Create MIB This button is for when you are done with your planning process and want to create an issue file. The file generated will be named GUID.MIB and is the one you upload to publish.magplus.com as an issue. Vertical handling / Page planning Adding a vertical When you have exported a vertical from the plug-in to the issue folder it will appear up in the clipboard if you have opened that issue folder in the Production Tool. To move it into the issue, simply drag and drop it to the preview desktop to the left. Rearrange verticals Simply drag and drop any vertical to any desired position. 4 Changing view You can view the issue in two different ways: the preview mode and the list view. Preview mode This mode is the most graphical and also includes a zoom you can use to get a better overview of the issue List view This mode is a table based mode to give you an easier way to for example double check that all verticals are included. Review the issue If you select a few of your imported verticals by clicking them and then press the Review selected - button, you will push that selection of verticals to your ipad. To review the whole issue, press the Review All -button. Don t forget to check the Push box at the far right, for the review to work. Edit the issue If you want to alter the content of your issue, just double-click the vertical you want to change and it will be opened in the Plug-in. Table of Contents (TOC) When you have created a TOC file it will appear in the Clipboard. Just drag it into the Preview Desktop and it will show up first under Other Objects. To set the size of the TOC, just select the TOC vertical and alter the height and width in the Property table at the top right of the Production Toll window. Preferences Language This setting changes your Production Tool language. Available languages are English, German, Danish and Japanese. Local Brand Settings (not required) This option allows the Production Tool to use brand information from a previously created brand file. It must be a valid.mags-file but it is not normally required as brand information files are typically placed in the issue export folder hierarchy by the plug-in and read automatically from there. MIB Version file (not required) This option enables the Production Tool to allow additional MIB. Review MIB File loc. When you press the Review buttons, the generated MIB file will be placed here. You can either browse for a folder (the filename Review.mib will be appended automatically) or type the path to a MIB-file. You will typically place the MIB file under a folder controlled by a locally installed web server so it can be reached from a reviewer application. MIB Push Address When the push options are enabled, any MIB file generated pressing the Review -buttons will be pushed to an ipad located at this address. v1.0.3p 2011 Mag+ AB. All rights reserved 4

5 Allow missing thumbnails This allows MIB files to be created even if mandatory thumbnails are missing.
