3 Module 2 Drive Integration Goal: Demonstrate the reduction in engineering time needed to configure a drive, control the motor movements from the PLC, and use commissioning tools to verify it s operation. Module 2 - main take away items: Using the Startdrive editors, experience how quickly a drive can be configured to get the motor turning, so as to quickly verify setup and wiring of the system Using the Technology Objects (TOs)in the PLC, understand how easy it is to setup an axis in the PLC for easy communications between the PLC and Drive, and then program motion from the PLC using standard PLCopen commands Use the commissioning Trace tool to help verify the speed and operation of the motor Page 3 October 12, 2015

9 2 1 Configuring the motor data for the drive: Startdrive provides 2 wizards to help parameterize the G120 Drive. The Drive on SIMATIC motion control axis wizard is designed to automatically configure most of the parameters required to work with the motion technology object (or axis) on the CPU. 1. Open Drive_1 -> Parameter editor in the Project tree 2. Select Drive on SIMATIC motion control axis Customer Benefit -> Easy setup of Sinamics G120 drives Easy configuration and setup of the Sinamics drives can be done within the TIA Portal when Startdrive is installed. After a drive is added to the project, additional editors allow the user to easily parameter, commission and get diagnostics on the drive. Page 9 October 12, 2015

Select Delta before entering other motor parameters NOTE: Verify that parameters entered in Step 2 after this step are still correct before proceeding as they may change! 4. Select Next

19 Speed Technology Object Communication between the PLC and Drive is done with an Axis Technology Object in the PLC. The Axis Technology Object (TO) does the following: The TO is the interface between the PLC and Drive It translates what we want to tell the drive in a language it understands It provides a graphical interface that makes it easy for the user to setup the axis parameters It provides a set of default parameters that allows the user to get the motor turning as quickly as possible Page 19 October 12, 2015

28 1. Select the PLC_1 in the Project tree 2. Select the Download button on the main toolbar 3. If synchronization issue appears, select Continue without synchronization 1. The Extended download dialog may not appear unless the system has been reset. 2. In the Action column of the Load preview dialog, configure all options as shown, and select Load to download to PLC. 43 1 2 Motion control in the S PLC: 1. Select the SpeedAxis_1 in the project tree 2. Drag the SpeedAxis_1 from the Project tree to the Axis pin on the MC_Power block. Customer Benefit -> Easy communication between PLC and Drive The user does not need to be an expert on PLC and Drive communications. Each one of the PLC Open blocks has an Axis input pin to tell it which axis in the project is the block referring to. This handles the communication between the PLC and Drive, so the user only needs to add the code that triggers a drive enable, jog, move, stop, etc. Page 43 October 12, 2015

48 1 2 Customer Benefit -> Download to the PLC while its CPU is in RUN mode Programming changes made to the PLC while offline can be downloaded directly to the PLC WITHOUT putting the CPU in STOP mode, allowing the CPU to continue uninterrupted in RUN mode. 49 Page 49 October 12, 2015 Motion control in the S71500 PLC: 1. Go online with the PLC 2. Enable the drive via ENABLE DISABLE button 3. Jog the motor via << or >> buttons 4. Change the speed on the fly by moving the upper potentiometer on the kit and continue to press either the << or >> jog buttons 5. You can also control the motor via the Start > and Stop [] buttons. Note to change the speed, you must press the > button again for the new speed value to take effect Note: If there is an error use RESET to do a reset. 6. When finished, select the PLC_1 object in the project tree and select the Go offline button.

50 Commissioning Trace Feature Customer Benefit -> Easy troubleshooting for sporadic faults or tuning drives This feature allows for easy tracing of Boolean and Analog signals No PC needs to be connected to the PLC as the trace job resides in the PLC and it can be configured to record a sample trace on a fault condition A maximum of 64 signals can be traced at any one time via four separate trace jobs in the PLC Page 50 October 12, 2015

51 Commissioning Trace Feature Task 4: Trace Configuration Overview 1. Add a trace and configure with required signals to run and monitor the G120 drive. 2. Configure sampling conditions and download the trace to the PLC. 3. Enable the trace and view the recorded data while the motor is running 4. Upload the trace and view offline. 52 1 Trace Configuration: 1. Select Add new block from the Program blocks folder. 2. Select an Organizational Block (OB) -> Cyclic Interrupt 3. Change the interrupt time to µs (0.01 s) 2 3 Page 52 October 12, 2015

53 Trace Configuration: 1. The new Cyclic Interrupt (OB) appears in the Project tree. Note, this block will interrupt the main cyclic program every 0.01 seconds and is used later in the configuration of the Trace. We do not need to add any code into this block to run the trace job. Note this will record 6000 samples over a one minute timeframe Note, if the sample time does not state seconds, then the interrupt time of the Cyclic Interrupt (OB30) is set incorrectly.
