PART 1: GETTING STARTED 2

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Creating an Account When you open Design Studio for the first time, you ll be asked to create an account.* Why do I have to create an account? Design Studio stores data in the cloud, so you can access your installation from any Windows computer or the mobile app. Enter your name and a valid . Enter and verify your password. Click [Create Account]. *If you are not connected to the Internet, you ll be taken straight to the Existing Installations screen and be able to create an installation (see page 4). Note, however, that Design Studio will not be able to communicate with N4s without an Internet connection. Any installations you create without an Internet connection will be saved on your PC. As soon as Internet connection is restored, you can create an account, and the installations will then be automatically linked to that account. 3

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Creating a New Installation What is an installation? An installation is a Design Studio file. It s made up of Ketra lights, keypads, and satellites, as well as any configurations you set for them. Click [CREATE AN INSTALLATION] in the Existing Installations screen. Then: Name your installation. Choose an installation type and click [Next]. Option 1: Demo - Use if just trying out Design Studio - Devices can be found by other installations - If those installations are demos, you will share control 1 2 Option 2: Secure (Recommended) - Use if installation is permanent - Devices cannot be found by other installations - Guaranteed exclusive control Note: Both types have access to the same customization features. 4

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Creating a New Installation (Cont d) Choose to connect with N4 Hub(s) and click [Next]. Select an N4 from the list. Selecting an N4 will cause it to identify itself by flashing its indicator lights. 3 Where s my N4? If your N4 doesn t appear in the list, click [Refresh]. If it still doesn t appear, make sure that your N4 and computer are powered on and connected. 5. Optional: Change the N4 s channel. Leave it on the default if this is your only nearby hub. Multiple hubs that are close together should be on different channels Click [Add Hub to Install]. Repeat steps 4-6 for any of your other N4s, then click [Open Install]

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Adding Devices to Your Installation The Organization tab lets you add devices (lights, keypads, and satellites) to your installation. Then you ll be able to use Design Studio to configure them. 1 You will add devices to one N4 at a time. Afterward, the N4 will act as a relay between Design Studio and those devices. 1. Click [Find New Devices]. 2. Choose an N4 to add devices to. You will be able to return to this window later to select your other N4s. 3. Optional: Set the Discovery Range. Use Normal if your N4 is closely surrounded by 75 of fewer devices that you haven t added yet. If you do not discover all of your devices, use Extended or Maximum; Click [Find Devices]. The N4 will search for any nearby, powered-on Ketra devices. During the search, lights will go to a dim blue to show they ve been found. 6

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Adding Devices to Your Installation (Cont d) 5. Check the boxes of devices you want to add. Highlighting a device will make it identify itself in your space: a light will shine a bright blue, and keypads and satellites will flash their indicator lights. Where s my device? If a device is missing from the results, make sure the device is powered on, then click [Refresh] to repeat the search. Also note that devices will not appear if you ve already added them to another N4. 6. Click [Add Checked Devices]. Lights will turn green to show they ve been added, and they will become visible in the My Devices panel on the left side of the screen. 7. Click [Finish this Hub]. 8. In the popup window, click [YES] to add for another N4, or [NO] if you re finished adding. If you click [YES], repeat steps 2-7. If you click [NO], continue to Grouping Lights, page

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Grouping Lights: What Are Groups? If you plan to control any of your lights differently from the others, you need to sort them into groups (also called lamp groups). What is a lamp group? A lamp group is a collection of any number of Ketra lights, put together by you. You will control this group as a unit rather than controlling lights individually (though you could make a group with only one light). Do I have to sort my lights into groups? Not necessarily. Your lights are already part of a group called All Lights, which you can see by expanding Lamp Groups in the My Devices panel. (We ve expanded it in the image below.) If you intend for all of your lights to emit the same colors and change in sync, leave them in All Lights and skip Why are lamp groups important? They allow you to control some of your lights differently to Part 2: Device Control, page 11. from others. In a lobby, you might want a lamp group emitting a warmer, softer light to make guests feel at home, while in the office, a different lamp group emits a brighter, crisper light. How do I create groups? See the instructions on page 9. 8

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Grouping Lights 1. In the My Devices panel, click [New Lamp Group]. You can rename the new group by highlighting it and clicking the pencil button. 2. In All Lights, select the lights you want to add to the new group. Highlighting a light will make it identify itself in your space by shining a bright blue. You can select multiple by holding down the Ctrl key as you click. 1 2 Can I group lights from multiple N4 hubs? Yes, you can. In fact, all your lights are already grouped together in the group All Lights! We created and renamed three groups. 9

PART 1: GETTING STARTED Grouping Lights (Cont d) In the Details panel, add the lights to the new group. In the Change Grouping section, select the group in the Add to: box and press [Add]. 3 Repeat steps 1-3 until the groups are filled as you want them. When you ve finished grouping, you re ready to move from the Organization tab to the Device Control tab. These tabs can be found at the top of the screen. 10

11

Introduction to Device Control You ve added devices to your installation. Now what? In the Device Control tab, you ll design custom settings for them. Lamp groups can be told to emit a certain color, and keypads can be programmed to trigger shifts in lighting. To decide which parts of this section to read, use this logic tree: YES YES Do you plan to control all lamp groups with the keypad? NO Read Controlling Lamp Groups without a Keypad, page For groups to control without a keypad, read Controlling Lamp Groups without a Keypad, page 13. Does your installation have a keypad? 12 Read Customizing a Keypad to Control Lamp Groups, page 14. NO 2. For groups to control with a keypad, read Customizing a Keypad to Control Lamp Groups, page 14.

Controlling Lamp Groups without a Keypad The Lamps subtab of Device Control lets you program each lamp group to emit its own color. 1. Lamps tab Select a group. Select a group from the My Lamp Groups panel on the left side of the screen. Your configurations will only apply to that group. 2. Change the group s color settings. See page 18 for options on changing a group s color. 3. Publish (save) settings. Publishing saves your settings as default states for your devices. For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page

Customizing a Keypad to Control Lamp Groups The Keypads subtab of Device Control lets you customize the content for each scene button on a keypad. Each button can control multiple groups and, for each button, each Keypads tab group can emit a different color than the others. 1. Select a keypad. Select a keypad to configure from the My Keypads panel on the left side of the screen. 2. Assign groups to your keypad. In Group Assignments, check the groups you want the keypad to control

Customizing a Keypad to Control Lamp Groups (Cont d) 3. Select Keypad Assignments. 4. Pick a button to configure. Just click on the scene s name to select it Assign a scene. In Content Settings, select Assign a Scene. Click [NEXT].

Customizing a Keypad to Control Lamp Groups (Cont d) What are scenes and shows? A scene is static. Lights emit any color and intensity you want, and they stay that way over time. A show is dynamic. Lights emit any color and intensity you want, and over time they change to other colors you ve selected. To program shows, see our Design Studio manual. 6. Name the button s scene. Enter a name you like, then click [NEXT]. Alternatively, choose a scene to copy (use as a template). 7. Choose groups for your scene to control. Use the [+] and [-] buttons to add and remove groups if you have more than one. If you want the scene to control all your lights, leave the group as All Lights. 16

Customizing a Keypad to Control Lamp Groups (Cont d) 8. For each group, customize the color settings using the panel on the right side of the screen. See page 18 for the different ways to change a group s color. 9. Repeat steps 4-8 for each scene button on the keypad. Note: Instead of setting color configurations in step 8, you can press the [ ] button to turn a group off for the scene, or set a fade time using the Fade Time(s) box After configuring all keypad buttons, publish (save) settings. Publishing saves your settings as default states for your devices. For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page 23.

Setting Color Configurations for a Lamp Group All color controls can be found in the control panel on the right side of the screen. The panel is divided into three sections: Manual Control: Select your own color from a color diagram. This is further divided into White and Pastel and Full Gamut. See pages Content Library: Select from popular color settings. See page 21. User Presets: Select from settings you ve saved before. See page 22. After setting color configurations, don t forget to publish your settings i.e. save them to your devices as default states. For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page

Setting Color Configurations for a Lamp Group (Cont d) Intensity slider Option 1 Manual Control: White and Pastel The color diagram offers a palette of soft, pastel hues. For a wider range of colors, use the Full Gamut tab. Why does the intensity slider move automatically? As you move around the color chart, Design Studio may lower your group s intensity (brightness) in order to match certain colors. Select points on the chart to change your group s color Enter specific coordinates on the chart Don t forget to publish your settings! For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page 23. Save a setting to use in other installations Move laterally across the color chart Move vertically across the color chart Change the ratio of RGB to W. Objects illuminated at higher vibrancy appear more saturated Select from a list of natural colors 19

Setting Color Configurations for a Lamp Group (Cont d) Intensity slider Option 2 Manual Control: Full Gamut The color diagram offers a diverse range of saturated colors. Don t forget to publish your settings! For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page 23. Select points on the chart to change your group s color Enter specific coordinates on the chart Save a setting to use in other installations Circumscribe a point on the color chart Move from the pastel center of the chart to the saturated outside Control color by adjusting the RGB levels 20

Setting Color Configurations for a Lamp Group (Cont d) Back arrow Option 3 Content Library The Content Library offers a variety of popular color choices Select a collection. Each item in the initial screen is a collection of colors. There is also a collection of warm dimming curves called Dimming Curves. Select a setting. Hover over a color setting and click [ ] to preview it on your lights. (Note: Before previewing a dimming curve, you have to publish it.) Hovering also gives you the option to save a preset by clicking [ ], or read information about the setting by clicking [i ]. Don t forget to publish your settings! For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page Collection name

Setting Color Configurations for a Lamp Group (Cont d) Option 4 User Presets Select from settings you have saved in the past. Hovering over a setting will give you the options to delete the setting play the setting (display it on your lamps) see information about the setting Don t forget to publish your settings! For more information, including advice on when to publish, see page

Publishing Settings Publishing saves your configurations to your devices as default states. That means that when your devices power on, they ll default to your configurations. How do I publish? As shown in the image at right, there are two publishing buttons in the top-right corner of any Device Control tab. Why is publishing important? It guarantees that your devices won t forget your configurations when power-cycled (i.e. when turned off and back on). When should I publish? Lamps tab: You can click [Publish this Group] after completing one group s configurations click [Publish Everything] after completing all other configurations for your installation Keypads tab: You can click [Publish this Keypad] after configuring all scene buttons on one keypad click [Publish Everything] after completing all other configurations for your installation Without publishing, if your devices got power-cycled, they would revert back to their defaults (either their last-published states or, if you d never published anything before, their factory settings). Your configurations wouldn t be lost; you would still see them onscreen when you reopened the installation in Design Studio. From there, you could click [Publish Everything] to restore them to your devices. 23

After Publishing After publishing, you have several options: Continue setting configurations for other devices. Just remember to publish those configurations too. Return to the Existing Installations list. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click the user icon in the top-left corner: 2. At the top of the sidebar, click Installations List: Exit the program. Just click [X] in the top-right corner. Design Studio will automatically save your changes to the installation ketra.com 3815 South Capital of Texas Highway Ste. 100 Austin, TX Ketra Inc.
