6 The Control Panel The control panel consists of the LCD, physical keys for copying, numeric keys, additional functions key, and indicators. The following is an explanation of the keys used in this manual. For more information, see Chapter, Before You Start Using This Machine, in the Reference Guide. [Image Quality] Key to select image quality for copy and fax. 7 The Control Panel LCD Displays messages and prompts during operation. Displays selection, text, and numbers when adjusting the settings. [View Settings] Key to confirm settings. [Reset] Key to return the device to standby mode. [System Monitor] Key ON/OFF to check fax transmission, print, copy, or report output status. 8 Copying Making a Copy The following is a description of the basic copying of documents. For more detailed procedures, see references to other guides. Preparation Copy Basic Features screen Place Your Originals Placed in the feeder 00% AUTO A TEXT O If the machine is in Sleep mode, press [ON/OFF]. When a message appears on the LCD display, follow the instructions. ENTER DEPT.ID ENTER USER ID :A Place your originals. Placed on the platen glass If you place your originals on the platen glass, close the feeder/platen glass cover. If necessary, set copy modes with the physical keys for copying, or additional functions key. If the message <INSERT CONTROL CARD> appears, insert a control card. For more information on the copy modes you can set using Standard Features, see p. 9, p. 0, p. and p., using Special Features, see p. and p.. INSERT CONTROL CARD To set the various copy modes, press [Additional ] and select <COPY SETTINGS>. For more information, see Chapter, Basic Operations, in the Reference Guide. For more information on the copy modes you can set on the Additional, see p. 7. If the Machine is in FAX mode, press [Copy]. You can also place paper in the Stack Bypass to copy. If you make a mistake when entering values, press [Clear] enter the correct values. The number of copies you specify is displayed on the right-hand side of the LCD display. 00% AUTO A TEXT O8 [Start]. Simply select the desired paper size from the displayed keys to automatically set the optimum zoom ratio. If you press [Copy Ratio] twice, you can enter the copy ratio from 50% to 00%, can be selected in increments of % by or. or PRESET RATIO 00% 50%, 70%, % and 00% Original Copy [OK] To Collate Sets of Output Together Copying Guide Chapter [Collate] Copies are automatically collated into sets arranged in page order, and output to the trays, as shown below. TONER SAVER MODE.TONER SAVER MODE PRINTER DENSITY 5.PRINTER DENSITY You can select the toner consumption level for printing. You can adjust the density for printing the outputs. 5

PAPER TYPE ENERGY IN SLEEP 8.ENERGY IN SLEEP TRAY DESIGNATION 9.TRAY DESIGNATION BYPASS STD SET 0.BYPASS STD SET PAPER FEED SWITCH.PAPER FEED SWITCH You can set the paper drawers to be used for Automatic Paper Selection and Automatic Drawer Switching. This setting can be made separately for copy, printer, and fax. You can set the paper type you use in the drawer. You can select the power consumption when the machine is in the Auto Sleep mode between the two levels: <HIGH> and <LOW>. You can select the function for two output trays (Tray A and Tray B) of the optional Inner Way Tray-E or Additional Finisher Tray-C to be used. Set the standard paper size and type for the stack bypass if you always use the same paper size and type. You do not need to select the paper size and type each time you use the stack bypass. You can switch the paper feed method for paper loaded in the machine. This is useful when you want to make onesided or two-sided prints on preprinted paper (paper which has logos or patterns already printed on it) without changing the orientation of the paper loaded in paper source. You can set this function to ON to display the error message on the LCD if there is dust in the feeder. You can restore all the Common Settings to their defaults (initial settings). 6

AUTO ORIENTATION COPY SETTINGS.AUTO ORIENTATION STANDARD SETTINGS COPY SETTINGS.STANDARD SETTINGS If <AUTO ORIENTATION> is set to <ON>, the machine uses information, such as the size of the original and the zoom ratio, to determine the most suitable orientation for the specified paper size and automatically rotates the image, if necessary. You can set the standard settings for copying. You can select from nine setting methods: <.IMAGE QUALITY> <.DENSITY> <.ZOOM RATIO> <.COPIES> <5.AUTO COLLATE> <6.TWO-SIDED> <7.FRAME ERASE> <8.-PAGE SEPARATION> <9.PAPER SELECT> 7
19 Additional SHARPNESS COPY SETTINGS.SHARPNESS PAPER SIZE GROUP COPY SETTINGS 5.PAPER SIZE GROUP MM/INCH ENTRY COPY SETTINGS 6.MM/INCH ENTRY INIT. COPY SET. COPY SETTINGS 7.INIT. COPY SET. You can set the sharpness of the copied image. If you want to copy texts and lines clearly, increase the sharpness level. If you want to copy a halftone original such as a picture, decrease the sharpness level. You can select a paper size group for your machine. You can set the unit of measurement of the frame erase width for Frame Erase function. Modes that have been changed in Copy Settings (from the Additional Function menu) can be restored to their default settings. Copying Additional 8

You can specify the amount of time that must be taken before going into Auto Sleep mode from to 0 minutes in one-minute increments, and can also be set to <OFF>. If the machine remains idle for a certain period of time, the display returns to the standby mode (Auto Clear Function). Auto Clear Time can be set from to 9 minutes in oneminute increments, and can also be set to <OFF>. DAYLIGHT SV.TIME 9
21 Additional Report Settings You can print the contents of the machine settings. These reports are useful when you want to check the current settings. Once the System Administrator ID and Password are set, only the system manager can save and change the System Settings. Device Information enables you to set a name for the machine, and enter information regarding its location. By registering a Department ID and password for each department, you can manage the machine by limiting its use only to those who enter the correct Department ID and password.
