It provides you with information on the following topics: The areas in which you can use the PC components of PCS 7. The software and hardware you require for specific PC components. The authorizations and licenses you require for individual products. The possible PC configurations for an application. How to design and configure your PC network. The documentation is intended for persons involved in configuration, commissioning, and service. Basic Knowledge required To understand this documentation, you should be familiar with automation engineering and process control engineering. You should also have experience of using PCs and similar (for example programming devices) and the Windows 2000 operating system. Before installing PCS 7 components, make sure that you read the readme.wri file on the latest version of PCS 7. Validity The documentation is valid for the software package "Process Control System PCS 7 Toolset V6.0 SP3" or higher. Licenses and Authorizations As of PCS 7 V6.0 SP3, the "Automation License Manager" is supplied for transferring authorizations. This program replaces the previously used AuthorsW program. All previous functions for transferring authorizations are possible with the "Automation License Manager". The technical implementations of a license were previously the authorizations that will gradually be replaced by license keys. 11 1 PC Components of a PCS 7 System 1.1 PC Components of a PCS 7 System This section provides you with a general overview of the PC components that you can use with PCS 7 (Version 6.0 SP3), the areas of application of these components, and the hardware and software components used. SIMATIC PCS 7 Process Control System The modern concept and architecture of SIMATIC PCS 7 allow cost-effective implementation of a plant during all its life cycles from planning, engineering, training, and commissioning followed by operation and maintenance and including future expansion and economic operation of the plant. By adhering consistently to international industrial standards for data exchange with the enterprise management level such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, or SAP R3/PP-PI, the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system can be fully integrated into the company-wide information networks. 13 PC Components of a PCS 7 System 1.3 PCS 7 Software The PCS 7 software includes the following software packages: For engineering (see section "PCS 7 Engineering Station"). For operator control and monitoring of the automation process including necessary evaluation options (see section "PCS 7 Operator Station"). For operator control and monitoring of batch processes including the necessary evaluation options (refer to the section "SIMATIC BATCH"). Networks In PCS 7 version 6.0, only Industrial Ethernet is used for communication on the terminal bus and the plant bus. For more detailed information on networks, refer to the section PC Components in the Network and the section "Installing the Operating System - Notes on Installing the Operating System". Communication modules for PCs In the PCS 7 - Released Modules documentation, you will find the latest information on the communication modules used in PCS 7. Downloading the AS Configuration For more information on downloading the AS configuration, refer to the section "PC Components in the Network - Downloading the AS Configuration". PC Ports / COM Ports In general a PC has a maximum of 2 COM ports. If you want to connect several additional components (time receiver and chipcard reader) to a redundant server PC (for PCS 7 OS or SIMATIC BATCH), this is not possible because one COM port is already required for the redundancy monitoring. In this case, please use a time receiver that allows synchronization over Industrial Ethernet. 1-4 A5E

15 PC Components of a PCS 7 System 1.5 Number of Workstations When deciding how many workstations you require, you should take into account the following factors: The number of automation systems The degree of automation The distribution of the workstations The requirements of the system (for example possibility of local control of a unit) The required degree of operator-friendliness - Information displayed simultaneously - System overview, message lists, logs The required availability (for example implementation of redundant systems) Number of Servers PCS 7 supports a maximum of 12 servers in a system. The maximum number of operator control and monitoring stations depends on the load on the server. 17 2 PCS 7 Engineering System 2.1 PCS 7 Engineering Station Overview This section explains the structure of a PCS 7 engineering station (simply referred to as PCS 7 ES below). The chapter explains the required hardware and software components and the essential combinations for application. PC Configurations of the PCS 7 ES Hardware of the PCS 7 ES Software of the PCS 7 ES Notes on Installing a PCS 7 ES Introduction SIMATIC PCS 7 provides a comprehensive engineering system for configuring process control systems that allows projects to be worked on throughout a system and plant. The engineering system can be used for the entire range of projects from small systems to large manufacturing complexes. The same tools are used to work with and manipulate the project database from the initial configuration of a plant through to the running of the plant. This means that the project data are created and maintained with identical tools during the entire life of a plant. Engineering Station The PCS 7 ES is a PC or PC network on which the software for the essential configuration work for a PCS 7 project is installed (an example is shown in the figure below). A5E

18 PCS 7 Engineering System 2.2 PC Configurations of the PCS 7 ES Examples of Configurations In a PCS 7 system, the following PC configurations are typical: PCS 7 ES on a Single PC PCS 7 ES for a Small System PCS 7 ES - Working on a Project with Several PCs 2.3 PCS 7 ES on a Single PC Simple structure with one PCS 7 ES on a single PC (an example is shown in the figure below). 2.4 PCS 7 ES for a Small System In a small system (for example a training station), a combination of PCS 7 ES and operator station can be used (for an example, see below). 2-2 A5E

19 PCS 7 Engineering System 2.5 PCS 7 ES - Working on a Project using Several PCs It is possible for more than one user to work on a project. If it is not acceptable to perform the engineering tasks with only one PCS 7 ES, you can distribute the engineering work over several PCs. How to do this is described in Configuration Manual Process Control System PCS 7; Engineering Station. The following variants are possible: Branching and Merging Projects Multiproject Engineering Multi-user Configuration Branching and Merging Projects The figure below illustrates the distribution of the project on separate engineering PCs. 20 PCS 7 Engineering System Advantages You can do the engineering work on PCs that are not part of the network (for example configuring at different locations). If you break up a master project, the connections between the charts are retained in the form of "textual interconnections". As long as you keep to the procedure as described in the Configuration Manual (Process Control System PCS 7; Engineering Station), you can configure as if you were working on independent projects. Multiproject Engineering The figure below illustrates the distribution of the multiproject (total project of a system) on separate engineering PCs. Advantages Compared with working in the multiuser mode, a multiproject allows you to work more quickly because several users can work on parts of the multiproject (entire project of a system). How the users work: See table below. The entire project of a system can be divided into several smaller projects. Simple branching of the multiproject and merging of the projects (implementation of projects). Projects can consist of the configuration data for AS stations, OS stations or BATCH Engineering. Several projects can be stored on a PC. (See table below) The BATCH engineering can be done on a separate PC for a multiproject. The failure of the PC of a project affects only the data that are being edited on this PC. Functions that are required to run in the multiproject for all projects can be repeated when all the projects are available. By saving the multiproject, all projects are automatically backed up in one path. Within the context of a multiproject, PC 1 ("Client", operator) with PCS 7 can access a PCS 7 project stored on PC 2 ("Server") (for example for inter-project functions). How the user works depends on the way the projects are stored. A distinction is made between the following: - central storage of the projects of a multiproject on a server and 2-4 A5E

Due to the distributed storage of the projects (only one project per PC), the limitations of the Windows 2000 Professional operating system are not reached. One project is located on one PC (every user has their "own project" on their PC). Each user only works on their own project. When inter-project functions are required, the PC on which the multiproject is stored must be used. It is advisable to select one user for inter-project functions. You avoid operating system restrictions and access conflicts if the users make sure that they open the projects separately; in other words not from within the multiproject. If the PC with the multiproject is a server with the Windows 2000 Server operating system, both working methods can be used one after the other or alternately. Example: During the initial phase of a multiproject, the projects can be distributed and are then edited locally. In the final phase of commissioning, the last jobs are performed only on the central server. Multi-user Configuration The graphic below illustrates engineering with separate PCs. 22 PCS 7 Engineering System Caution! Install the PCS 7 Toolset on the server PC. If neither the PCS 7 Toolset nor STEP 7 is installed on the server, the first client to log in to the project (for example Client 1) adopts the function of the (active) database server. If this client fails (for example due to a network failure or the client is turned off), no client that logged in after the failed client can access the project any longer. In the worst case, the failure of the database server on the client can lead to a loss of data since the data required for reorganization (for example following a power outage) are no longer available to the server. The data for reorganization is kept only locally on the client on which the database server is active. The PCs of the individual users function as terminals in a network. All users store the project data on one PC. Advantage There is no additional effort required for data backup or data consistency Note Make sure that only one user ever works on one AS. If you require several users to perform engineering work, multiproject engineering is recommended. You should also read the information in the section "Notes on the Multiuser Configuration and on Using Network Drives" in the readme.wri file of the software package PCS 7 Toolset CD V6.0. Configuring PCs for the Multiuser Configuration If you want to perform your engineering work in a multi-user configuration, we recommend that you use a client-server configuration. Clients If a user wants to compile the program for a SIMATIC station, while other users work on the project, the following points should be noted: 2-6 A5E

23 PCS 7 Engineering System To avoid loss of performance, it is not advisable for more than 3 or 4 engineering clients to be connected to one engineering server. Make sure that the users coordinate the compilation programs of the SIMATIC stations and archiving of the projects with each other. Engineering of the hardware and network configuration of a station should be handled by only one user or be performed centrally from one PC. 2.6 Hardware of the PCS 7 ES Basic Hardware The basic hardware used with PCS 7 is listed in section "The PCS 7 PC Hardware, Software, and Installation". We recommend that you use the tested components (refer to Process Control System PCS 7; Catalog ST PCS 7). Optional Hardware Components Work Memory The size of the work memory used on the engineering s an essential factor governing the speed of the system. 24 PCS 7 Engineering System 2.7 Software of the PCS 7 ES The individual components of the PCS 7 ES are matched with each other. The PCS 7 Toolset CD V6.0 software package contains the necessary software on several CDs. The following software packages are installed on a PCS 7 ES: AS Engineering OS Engineering BATCH Engineering (optional) In PCS 7, the software packages form a unit.
