2 General System Requirements General System Requirements For all products, use the following list as a general guide of things to check prior to installation. Refer to the System Requirements for all applicable products. These system requirements are guidelines for typical use scenarios only. If a specific installation is intended to support a very large number of users or an unusually high volume of changes, consult with your Siemens Energy Inc. representative to ensure the sizing has been reviewed to align with the exact project or usage needs. Make sure the user installing the product has full administrative rights on the server and client machines. For more information, see Install Permissions and IT Recommendations and Restrictions. If Microsoft SQL Server is already installed, verify that the product supports the installed version. For more information, see Microsoft SQL Server Restrictions. Check the available hard disk space and the minimum/recommended RAM. Make sure the Operating System to which you are installing the product is supported, paying attention to 32-bit versus 64-bit distinctions. For more information, see Supported Operating System Versions and Restrictions. In addition, do the following: Refer to the README file, located at the root directory of the installation media, if present, for a list of possible installation, upgrade, or migration issues. Back-up any previous installation, including existing data. Scan the installation media with an Anti-Virus scan software, but subsequently disable the Anti-virus scan software during the installation or upgrade. Make sure Adobe Acrobat Reader version 10 (or higher) is installed (to ensure readability of the user s guides). Install Permissions and IT Recommendations and Restrictions The Installer must be run with administrative privileges on the server and client machines. The Microsoft.NET Framework must be installed prior to running the installation programs. Refer to the individual system requirements for the supported.net Framework version(s). The Microsoft.NET Framework must be selected at Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off window. All install directories must be placed on local disk storage. Installation on network shares is not supported. The installation must be run directly from the install media or by using an installation media copy that is physically available on the local system being installed. Installation over a network share is not supported due to the risk of a network outage during the install, which can result in an incomplete or corrupt installation. For the server where the database is installed, the use of a fast RAID system is required (preferably, a RAID 1+0 configuration, or alternatively, a RAID 0+1 configuration). A fast RAID subsystem with a large, battery-buffered write cache is strongly recommended. The product server-side components must be installed on a server dedicated to the product in question. Do not install other applications and/or databases on this server because they can interfere with the operation of the system by competing for the CPU and memory usage or by installing conflicting versions of required system files. Also refer to the Shared Server Restrictions topic below. The connection between the database server and the associated clients should be a high bandwidth, low latency connection (for example, ideally 1 GB LAN) to ensure good performance. 2 of 14 Copyright _Siemens Energy Inc. 3 General System Requirements The products can be installed and used in a virtual server environment provided by the latest version of VMWare ESX Server or Microsoft Hyper-V as long as the equivalent minimum recommendations are also met for the virtual machine. PS AIM and ULTRAPIPE have not been validated in a virtual environment with data loggers, AutoCAD, or Microstation. The serial port data logger may not work correctly in a virtual environment. Because of this, data loggers, AutoCAD, and Microstation are currently not supported in a virtual environment. The use of virtual server configurations may require additional third-party licensing. Supported Operating system Versions and Restrictions The Basic editions of Windows 8.1 / Windows 8 and Home editions of Windows 7 / Windows Vista are not supported. The Microsoft Windows operating system must have the en-us language pack installed. The Standard and Datacenter editions of Windows Server 2012 are supported; Foundations and Essentials editions are not supported. The Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter editions of Windows Server 2008 are supported; Core edition is not supported. For Microsoft Windows 2008, only Windows Server bit (x64) is supported; specifically, Intel or AMD x64 (AMD64) platforms. Itanium (IA64) or 32-bit (x86) versions of Windows Server 2008 is not supported. Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 in the Enterprise/Ultimate/Professional editions and 64-bit (specifically, Intel or AMD x64 (AMD64) platforms) or 32-bit is supported. Microsoft Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 Enterprise/Pro editions and 64-bit (specifically, Intel or AMD x64 (AMD64) platforms) or 32-bit is supported. Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise/Pro editions and 64-bit (specifically, Intel or AMD x64 (AMD64) platforms) or 32- bit is supported. Microsoft SQL Server Restrictions The Microsoft SQL Server collation must be "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" on local and master database servers. This is not relevant for the current version of PSPPM and OGM since product internal scripts create the database. If the product is installed on a single machine (no database/client separation), use of Microsoft SQL Server Standard edition is required. A 64-bit Microsoft SQL Server install must be used on a 64-bit operating system. Microsoft SQL Servers 2008 R2, 2012, and 2014 are supported. Shared Server Restrictions The provided sizing assumes exclusive use of the associated server, which is the preferred configuration. This must be taken into consideration in the system sizing if a shared server is used instead. Typical use cases/examples: If Microsoft SQL Server is used on a shared server, then the complete Microsoft SQL Server sizing must take the additional load from other applications into account, such that the remaining SQL Server performance is adequate Copyright _Siemens Energy Inc. 4 General System Requirements for the installed Siemens Energy Inc. product(s) and conforms to the minimum published capacity requirements. If a product is installed on an approved virtual server configuration, the assigned virtual machine must have dedicated resources that provide at least the system capacity defined in the published requirements. Database Server Installation Requirements Dual CPU, Quad core, Intel-class server machine Minimum: 8 GB RAM; recommended: 16 GB RAM Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2/2008 (64-bit) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise edition Full installation in MIX MODE with Integration Services. 150 GB of available hard disk space Additional space should be planned based on the expected number of drawings and file attachments. The language settings of the PSAIM log-in account in Microsoft SQL Server must match the language settings of the operating system. Stand-Alone (Single) PC Installation Requirements Modern Intel-class workstation machine with adequate memory for the operating system in use (for example, 8 GB for Windows 7) Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit), Windows Vista SP1 (32-bit) Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise edition Full installation in MIX MODE with Integration Services. Hardware/Software 150 GB of available hard disk space Additional space should be planned based on the expected number of drawings and file attachments. Power shell for the appropriate client operating system Application Server Requirements Dual CPU, Quad core, Intel-class server machine Minimum: 8 GB RAM; recommended: 16 GB RAM Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2/2008 (64-bit) For best performance, Siemens recommends hosting the Application Server Component on the Database Server.
