3 Release Notes New in this release Enhancements These release notes are for IBM XIV Gen3 Storage System Version Release date 16 Mar 2012 The new ersion 11.1 introduces the support for SSD Caching, IP6 protocol and remote replication with pre-gen3 systems: XIV implements SSD dries as a secondary cache between RAM and disk dries, supporting multi-tb SSD-powered cache per single rack. SSD Caching results in a significant potential performance boost to applications. It accommodates special READ performance requirements warranted by applications such as EPIC, Oracle and Exchange, and realizes a maximized utilization of SSD dries for any specified application. This feature s specification is 400GB per Module. XIV supports the IP6 protocol on all of its management ports, in addition to the existing IP4 protocol. All management actiity (including XCLI and GUI) can be carried out oer IP6 networks. XIV can connect to external IP serers such as , SNMP, LDAP, NTP, and DNS oer IP6. XIV supports remote replication between Gen3 systems (11.1 or higher) and pre-gen3 systems ( e or higher). See a broader explanation below. Aailability of code load Creating a Mirroring between Gen3 and pre-gen3 systems, set the system to automatically create a new Slae olume. This operation is done by running the mirror_create XCLI command with the alue of the create_slae parameter set to Yes. If done from the GUI, check the Create Slae check box on the Create Mirror screen. Note: If the parameter alue is set to No, the size of the Slae olumes must be set in blocks. In addition, the number of blocks must be identical to the number on the Master olume. Otherwise, the Mirroring fails. Offline initialization while creating a mirror is not supported in this ersion. SYS Linux kernel issue resulting in a module hang/failure if the module has been powered on for 208 days. It is likely that multiple modules would fail if all modules had identical up-time of 208 days. Hyper SYS In case of SAS Expander reboot, a problem with one disk might cause a failure to one or all disks. This may lead to disconnections of hosts. SYS On rare occasions, while running the Hot Upgrade procedure of performing module maintenance, hosts can disconnect. 5 Known issues SYS In rare instances, the mirror_list XCLI command may return incomplete information while bi-directonal mirroring is running. This command now returns full information. SYS Deleting an iscsi mirroring connection (een 1 connection of seeral aailable) makes them all inactie. SYS The ol_enable_aai and ol_disable_aai XCLI commands are now inaccessible to the customer. SYS In rare occasions, cases of a fluctuating iscsi link and number of mirrored olumes that is larger than 100, may result in low mirroring throughput. Workaround: Please contact IBM Support. SYS In rare cases, during Hot Upgrade procedure, Unit Attention is not sent to the hosts. The SCSI protocol uses Unit Attentions as a means for the storage controller to communicate with the host. When one host releases a LUN reseration, all other hosts that work with this LUN receie a Unit Attention updating them that they can access the data again. The Unit Attention arries at the host as a response the next time the host issues an IO. The problem occurs wheneer there was a code load between the time the unit attention was created and the time it is sent to the host. SYS Under ery heay ESX load, module crash may cause loss of access to hosts. This is an ESX known issue that was fixed in ersion 4.1. Release Notes 3

6 SYS Delay in booting from any reason (for example software upgrade), is not identified until the timeout is oer. In addition, XCLI commands cannot be run, unless using Deelopment accessibility rights. Workaround Contact XIV Support. SYS All dries in a single module might fail simultaneously due to one faulty drie. Hyper SYS When an SNMP serer is defined by the serer's DNS name, only its IP4 address records are looked up and used. Workaround: To communicate with an SNMP serer that supports only IP6, use its IP6 address rather than the host name. SYS SSD state changed from "Ready' to "Failed" after system reboot. Workaround: Contact IBM support. SYS The IBM XIV Storage System works around arious NTP issues through preenting to change the system s time by more than 2 hours. In order to let the system sync up its time: set the time to the correct alue using the time_set XCLI command. The system s clock will correct the small drift as needed. SYS Running the eent_list XCLI command may return partial eent information when inoked from some management modules, where returning full information if inoked from other modules. SYS Attempting to configure an IP6 address for the VPN interface fails if it is not configured with an IP4 address first. 4 IBM XIV Gen3 Storage System: Release Notes for ersion

7 Copyrights SYS The SSD_DOES_NOT_EXIST eent is erroneously sent for failed modules. SYS Running the dns_test XCLI command results, for each DNS serer, with either an A or an AAAA record. The type of record is determined by the DNS serer's address: A for serers specified as IP4 addresses and AAAA for serers specified as IP6 addresses. SYS Configuring an IP interface with an IP4 address, then disabling IP4 by setting the address to (using the ipinterface_update XCLI command), results in failing to remoe the address. SYS The GUI erroneously displays hosts that are deleted from the system. SYS Eents sent to the Center ia SMTP are sent through the Management IP interface, instead of the VPN interface. Workaround When configuring the VPN interface netmask, consider Center's subnet as well.
