GV Director Restoring USB Image / Frame and Panel Installation

1 IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already been provided this update package via USB by a Grass Valley service representative, please skip ahead and begin on page 4. Requirements: 16 GB USB FLASH OR LARGER Mouse and Keyboard for the GV Director Panel Keyboard for the GV Director Server Win32 Disk Imager: 7Zip to decompress the archive: Download the GV Director client Software by clicking the Tutorials / Download button located here: This package details how to copy an.img file over to a USB stick (this USB Device can be the same thumb-drive that is attached to the back of the GV Director Panel). About the.img: The current GV Director restore image contains all the utilities, diagnostics and panel image to perform a clean installation of the server, perform diagnostics and Acronis to create new restore images of the server and panel. Please find most recently qualified GV Director restore image upon the corresponding GVD Restore image Knowledge Base article. After downloading the restore image and 7-zip utility, path out to the location of the manufacturing restore image, right click, select 7-zip > Extract files, and select an extraction location for the file. Make note of the location. Page 1 of 16

2 APPLYING THE GVDIRECTOR-SERVER_PANEL.IMG Step 1: Download Win32 Disk Imager from: Open the win32diskimager-v0.9-binary directory, double click to open Win32DiskImager.exe You may be presented with a dialog box to allow the program to run: Step 2: Select the Folder icon, Select a disk Image dialog box will appear. Step 3: Next, path out to the proper location and select the extracted.img file NOTE: Software version may vary from examples given in the following images Page 2 of 16

3 Step 5: In the device section, select the device drive letter for the USB Thumb-Drive. Step 6: Click on the Write button to start the process. Step 7: Click YES to confirm overwriting the USB thumb-drive. Page 3 of 16

4 NOTE: Win32 Disk Imager will start the process of burning the restore image to the USB thumb-drive, this process can up to 30 minutes to complete. Page 4 of 16

5 RESTORING THE GV DIRECTOR SERVER: IMPORTANT NOTE: This process will overwrite any media or production packs that are not included in the default installation. Make sure these files are backed up before completing the steps below. Step 1: Power down the GV Director Server and then insert the USB thumb-drive into a free USB 2.0 slot. Step 2: Connect a monitor to the VGA port on the back of the server, and connect a USB Keyboard. Step 3: Power on the server. By default the server will look to boot off an external USB device before continuing to the SSD drive. Step 4: Select GV Director: Clean install w/o factory diagnostics Step 5: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. Here you will also be presented with the initial video format standard. You will need to confirm the completion of the installation, and allow the server to fully shut down. Once the server shuts down, remove the USB thumb-drive and re-power on the server. GV Director has successfully initiated when the multi-viewer is present on the connected DVI monitor (PIPs, Program and Stage windows are visible). Page 5 of 16

6 RESTORING THE GV DIRECTOR PANEL: IMPORTANT NOTE: This process will overwrite any additional items that may have been placed on the GV Director Panel. Make sure that these files are backed up before completing the steps below. Step 1: Power down the GV Director panel and insert the USB thumb-drive into a free USB 2.0 slot (do not use the blue USB 3.0 slots if the device is not compatible) Step 2: Connect a USB keyboard and mouse. Step 3: Power on the panel. By default the panel will look to boot off an external USB device before continuing to the msata drive. Step 4: Select Acronis TrueImage Page 6 of 16

7 Step 5: Welcome to Acronis True Image 2014 In the Recover Section, click on My Disks Step 6: Recovery Wizard Select a backup from which to recover Click on the Browse button on the bottom right of the window. Page 7 of 16

8 Step 7: Recovery Wizard Browse for Location 1. Navigate to appropriate drive (NOTE: may read Local or Removable depending upon USB used) 2. Click on GVD_Panel_v1.0.4_full_b1_s1_v1.tib (or relevant file version if different) 3. Confirm Selection in the File Name: 4. Click OK Page 8 of 16

9 Step 8: Recovery Wizard Select a backup from which to recover 1. Review.TIB Selection 2. Confirm panel software is present within the path 3. Click Next Page 9 of 16

10 Step 8: Recovery Wizard Choose recovery method By default Recover whole disks and partitions will be selected, click Next. Step 9: Recovery Wizard Select the items to recover Click on Disk 1 to select the whole disk, and then click Next. Step 10: Recovery Wizard Select destination of Disk 1 Highlight sda / Serial ATA line, then click Next. Page 10 of 16

12 Step 11: Recovery Wizard Summary A summary of tasks to be performed will be presented, to start the image restoration process click on Proceed. Step 11: Operation Progress You may either check Shut down the computer when Data Recovery is completed, or initiate shut down via the red x at the top right corner of the Acronis application once finished. 13 Step 12: When the panel has shut down and is powered off completely, remove the USB thumb-drive. Then power back on the panel. Windows Setup will now finalize the installation of the operating system. Step 13: During setup, Windows will display a prompt to enter the computer name. It is recommended that this name be the serial number on the back of the GV Director Panel. To continue click on the Next button. Step 14: Once finished, please visit and click upon the Tutorials/Downloads button to download and install the current version of GV Director control-panel software. Follow the software upgrade instructions included and proceed. When the installation and configuration is complete, launch the client and then perform the actions detailed within the next section. 14 ADDING THE DEFAULT SERVER HOST NAME USING THE PANEL When restoring the factory base image to the GV Director server, a host name needs to be entered via the GV Director Panel Step 1: Using a finger pull down the settings menu on the GV Director Panel. Page 14 of 16

16 Step 4: 1. Tap on the Host Name field and enter a name, by default it is recommended to enter the serial number of the GV Director Server, this is located on the front of the server, you may need to remove the front bezel cover. 2. Network: Port 1 Make sure you change the DHCP Enabled? from NO to YES. 3. Tap the Save button. This will cause the GV Director server to reboot and will automatically make the changes set from the panel. Page 16 of 16
