OVERVIEW This document contains release notes for the 6.85 Windows Agent 32-bit as well as the following Plug-Ins: Exchange 2003 DR and MAPI Plug-In Oracle Plug-In SQL Plug-In SharePoint Plug-In Cluster Plug-In Agent 6.85 supports BMR-type backup Jobs, including support for GPT drives and OEM partitions. For full BMR-type recovery, System Restore 1.50 or greater is required. This release is for use in combination with: - Windows Agent Console 6.82a/Remote Agent Console Vault 5.53, 6.04a, 6.21d, or greater In these release notes, "Agent Console" without "Remote" or "Windows" in front means that it applies to both Remote and Windows Agent Console. NEW FEATURES New features for the release: - Support for backup and recovery of data on GUID Partition Table (GPT) drives (BMR supported) as well as OEM partitions - Updated support for French and German languages (with Remote Agent Console) New features for the release: - Support for Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) with SQL Server 2008 (SP2), R2. Note that when using TDE, compression will not be utilized. 7

INSTALLATION NOTES 3.1 Windows Agent bit Installation Requirements * A computer running one of the supported operating systems listed in Section 1.2 * CPU and RAM to meet the basic requirements of your operating system, as prescribed by Microsoft * 16-bit (or greater) video properties for optimal GUI display * Windows Internet Explorer 6 (or greater) * A TCP/IP stack (for communicating with the vault, Agent, and Agent Console software) * At least 100 MB of free disk space for a new installation. An upgrade may require more. If there is not enough disk space, the application will issue a message. Also, for this installation, the system drive requires free space to decompress the package (regardless of which drive the installation targets). The actual amount of space will vary, but a recommended amount of 100 to 200 MB should suffice. The environment variables TEMP and TMP use %USERPROFILE% by default. Make sure that this variable points to a drive that has sufficient temporary space. This release is for use in combination with Windows Agent Console 6.82a, and Vault 5.53, 6.04a, 6.21d, or greater Conditional Requirements * You require.net Framework 2.0 if you install the Agent Assistant with the Agent. * DO NOT INSTALL the Agent in a Windows-encrypted directory. Exclude installation directories (as well as anti-virus directories) from open-file protection. Note: If you use an anti-virus (AV) program, disable real-time scanning on reads (called "outgoing" on some AV products). Do not back up the actual AV directories. In order to graphically configure and administer the Agent, you need to install Agent Console on a network-connected Windows system. To manage an Agent from both Windows Agent Console and Remote Agent Console, you must install them using the same service-account user identities. That is, the "Software BUAgent" and "Software Agent" service accounts must be the same. Otherwise, the BUAgent will not be able to provide status or administration functions. The accounts under which services run appear in the VVAgent and BUAgent logs. 8

9 3.1.3 Licensing To back up and restore data to/from a data-protection vault, you need a valid account, user name and password. This file contains the error codes and resource strings that the event viewer uses to display Agent messages. 9

10 3.2 Plug-Ins Exchange DR (VSS) and MAPI Plug-In For information regarding LCR, SCR, and CCR support, refer to the section about the Cluster Plug-In. Oracle Plug-In "Oracle Instant Client Support for Windows" is required. Instant Client Support is supplied (from the download web site) as a separate component from the Plug-In. It must be installed separately by the user. The installation will provide a warning to install Instant Client Support if it is not already installed. If you install the Oracle Plug-In, you must also install the "Oracle Instant Client Support for Windows" after the Windows 32-bit Agent has been installed. This is a separate InstallShield installation, not included as part of the Agent installation, and must be run separately. SQL Plug-In This version of the Plug-In supports the Microsoft-defined Virtual Backup Device Interface (VDI). Note: For Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP2), the Plug-In requires the SQL-DMO component, which was removed from Microsoft SQL Server You need to install the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components" package. A download is available at: A2BED18FE73C&displaylang=en Note: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 installs a 2008 version Native Client by default. This 2008 default version is not supported. You must install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Native Client. SharePoint Plug-In SQL Server Native Client is required. SharePoint Plug-In backup Jobs that use multiple, separate SQL Servers are not supported. That is, you cannot have SharePoint environments that use different SQL Server instances to host the various SharePoint databases. Cluster Plug-In This version of the Plug-In supports SQL Server 2008 (SP2).Install it as part of the Agent: 1. Install Agents and Plug-Ins on Physical Nodes. 2. Configure Cluster, Exchange, or SQL Plug-Ins on the Physical Nodes. 3. Create a new Agent for your Cluster on the Virtual Node using the IP address or host name. 4. From the newly created Agent, double-click the Global file to open the "Virtual server shared area" window. From here, select a drive letter for your Cluster, and then click OK. This will open the Agent Configuration Window. 5. Here you must specify your Vault connection information. Click OK to finish. 10

11 4. KNOWN ISSUES and FIXES 4.1 Fixes in the 6.85 Release Exchange 2010: Restore: Entering encryption password causes Agent service to stop abruptly. This has been fixed in this release. (21011) Unable to restore some folders from Sharepoint backup. This has been fixed in this release. (20937) Exchange VSS Backup failing intermittently on each node with error "EX10-E Cannot determine which databases are mounted. Passing Get-MailboxDatabase command via PowerShell in Exchange This has been fixed in this release. (20917) MAPI Backup: BKUP-E-4687 not all data could be processed in stream File data. This has been fixed in this release. (20756) SQL Cluster: Windows Agent Console Only Sees Global File on Virtual Node - No Logs, Tasks. This has been fixed in this release. (20612) UNC backup fails with "NTFSFile::ReadStreams() Backup Read() failed (OS error: The parameter is incorrect)". This has been fixed in this release. (20503) 4.2 Fixes in the 6.84 Release In previous versions, after a failed restore attempt, the passive vault pushed its own synch.mir and synch.dat files to the Agent. A subsequent synch attempt deleted the current delta file and restored the older delta file. This has been corrected. (20584) In previous versions, if a safeset was available on the Base Vault (but not on the satellite), the Agent was not able to restore unless you synchronized first. This has been corrected. (20573) In previous versions, Agent 6.82 delta recreation failed when the vault was replicated. This has been fixed. (20548) For N: 1 replication in previous versions, an Agent's list of safesets was cleared if no safesets existed on the Base Vault. This caused recoveries to fail. This behaviour has been corrected. (20527) YOU MUST RUN a synchronize operation before you restore. Synchronizing provides updated status and location information about safesets on vaults. 11

12 4.3 Fixes in the 6.82 Release "Synchronizing Agent to Base Vault fails with error "Cannot find target Vault". This has been fixed in this release. (20348)Windows Backup Error: "SS -E VRegistry::Initialize () error reading HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist\\REGISTRY\USER\S ". This has been fixed in this release. (20262) Agent not backing up folders within a mount point/drive. Error message O/S message: The filename or extension is too long. This has been fixed in this release. (20259) Exchange2007 VSS: the timeout of powershell command needs to be extended. This has been fixed in this release. (20226) BMR Backup Fails with "ENVC-E Get drive layout of drive \\.\PhysicalDrive1 failed error=2 0x2" and "ENVC-E-04096CaptureSystemRestorePointInfo Env Exception: Failed to get GPT drive info". This has been fixed in this release. (20210) LVR 1:1 - agent restore from passive incorrectly "The Vault at <agent connection ip> has delegated the operation. This has been fixed in this release. (20148) DPM backup to local disk fails with error DPM -E-8848 replica cannot be backed up at this time: "Volume D:" on "nb01bh01.crb.local" Protection Group "Daily Snapshot - Files". This has been fixed in this release. (20142) Base vault does not allow restores directly. This has been fixed in this release. (20133) Remote Agent Console Agent kit management cosmetic error. This has been fixed in this release. (20080) Numerous 6.81 Windows Agents Show Offline in Remote Agent Console. This has been fixed in this release. (20064) System State backup fails with VSS -E GetVolume MountPointW() failed for i:\jdedwards (OS error: ) This has been fixed in this release. (20007) Multiple Agents have DTA file corruption; Synchronize Often Does Not Rebuild DTA. This has been fixed in this release. (20003) System State Backup Fails with NONE-E VsscBackup::getSnapshotPath internal error - failed to map volume Volume {6de50b63-f290-11df }.This has been fixed in this release. (19979) Win 2008 Server Becomes Unresponsive During Backup and must be Rebooted. This has been fixed in this release. (19991) BUAgent consumes large amount of memory. This has been fixed in this release. (19220) Agent gets stuck in reconnection with Vault. This has been fixed in this release. (19717) Agent core dumps when it restores from an offline safeset (detached Secondary Storage). This has been fixed in this release. (18776) 12

13 4.4 Known Issues The Agent does not back up and recover a file's hardlink when located in a folder mounted on another partition. A restore does not contain the hardlink information and restores actual files. (20475) When selecting databases for a back up in Exchange 2003 (with Windows Agent Console or Remote Agent Console) the version and build beside the server name may show up as an Exchange 2000 Version and Build. This is a cosmetic problem which may occur if two Exchange servers are registered in the same Active Directory, and the first one is Exchange 2003, and the second one is Exchange (19526) Unable to create a BMR-type back up Job on Windows 7 when an active "OEM Partition" exists. WORKAROUND: Set the "primary partition" to active, which should contain boot, page file, crash dump attributes. (18391) Restoring Exchange databases to an alternate location fails for a fully qualified file name greater than 260 characters, and directory names greater than 248 characters. Alternate location restores with names and directories that are shorter will succeed. (18292) BMR-type back up Job failed with " Failed to initialize BMRCaptureEnvInfo.dll:... failed to Capture System Restore Point Info". Workaround: If you failover manually (move the cluster apps through the GUI) then you need to restart the passive node machine. This is only for a Windows 2003 cluster environment. It works correctly with a Windows 2008 cluster. (18002) Verifying the MAPI Profile as a user with administrator rights (but not as the user "Administrator") Agent installation folder locked by UAC will show "failed to load ex2000.dll". You can still connect to the Agent, create Jobs, but when you try to test the MAPI Profile as that user, it will fail.workaround: Add your user to the group to grant permission to access the Agent folder. Retry the MAPI Profile test. (17957) Exchange VSS backups may fail when third-party Shadow Copy Providers exist on the system. WORKAROUND: user can set registry to force select system provider: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\<service provider>\infostage\agent\usesystemvssprovider = 1 (DWORD) (17805) Mount point data is not backed up when a backup selection exists above the mount point in a directory. In other words, if a backup selection contains a mount point in a subdirectory, the data recursive to the mount point is not backed up. RECOMMENDATION: To back up a mount point and its data contents, create a separate Job for this selection. (17192) 13
