Note: For the purpose of this document, it is assumed that the user is familiar with the general programming and setup procedures of the HAI and Omni-Bus systems. Please refer to the relevant documentation for more information. This setup procedure requires OMNIBUS SOFTWARE V1.0.9 or newer and Scene Controller Hardware 126A00-1 with firmware release V1.01 or later. Please visit to download the latest OMNIBUS software. 1. Overview The Omni-Bus Scene Controller is an Omni-Bus control unit which enables lighting scenes or moods to be configured. Up to 32 different scenes can be defined, controlling up to a total of 256 Omni-Bus load control modules (dimmer, power switch, or relay module channel). Each scene can be triggered from up to 8 different Omni-Bus input device buttons (wall switch, wall mount remote, switch interface, or keyfob remote). When used in conjunction with a HAI Controller and Omni-Bus Interface Translator, scenes may also be triggered from the Controller or HAI Touchscreens. INPUT MODULES (SCENE TRIGGERS) 32 SCENES LOAD CONTROL MODULES (SCENE OUTPUTS) SCENE CONTROLLER 256 OUTPUTS 8 BUTTONS PER SCENE RF TRANSCEIVER REMOTE CONTROLS (SCENE TRIGGERS) INTERFACE TRANSLATOR AND OMNI CONTROLLER (OPTIONAL) Page 3 of 13
2. Scene Controller Channel Setup Each Scene (1 to 32) is represented as a separate channel on the Scene Controller when a LIST DEVICES is executed from the OMNIBUS software. Unused scenes may be disabled. Disabled scenes or channels will not show in the device list when listed. The following settings can be changed for each individual scene or channel: Occupancy mode Device startup Scene groups Scene Behaviour To change the settings for a channel, double click on the scene channel in the device list after a LIST DEVICES and select the Scene Channel Setup tab. Click on UPDATE SCENE CONTROLLER to download changed settings to the Scene Controller. Page 4 of 13
2.1. Enabling and Disabling Scenes Since Channel 1 is always enabled and the currently selected channel cannot be disabled, this function is best performed by selecting Channel 1 from the device list. Enable the appropriate checkboxes and click on UPDATE SCENE CONTROLLER to download the settings to the Scene Controller. Note that Channel 1 cannot be disabled and is always enabled Occupancy Mode When enabled, will cause the scene to automatically end (deactivate) after the entered duration in seconds (maximum seconds or approximately 18 hours) Device Startup Determines device behavior when the device is powered up. o Restore Scene state at startup: When enabled the controller will restore the scene state to the last saved state before power down. o Restore Scene outputs at startup: When enabled the controller will resend scene start level commands to all the scene output devices if the scene was active at power down Scene Behaviour Cancel Scene when a scene output changes state: When enabled, the controller will set the state of this scene to OFF when any output that was set by this scene changes state. All other outputs in this scene will remain in their current state. Page 5 of 13
2.5. Scene Groups Scene groups are mainly intended for use where two or more scenes control the same set of output devices or loads. Only one of the scenes belonging to a specific group can be active at any time. Activating any scene in a group will automatically cause all other scenes in that group to be deactivated. A practical example for this functionality would be where each button on a two button wall switch is assigned to a different scene but both scenes control the same set of output devices or loads. Pressing button 1 will activate the assigned scene and indicate the scene state on the button LED. Pressing button 2 will activate the second scene and LED 2 will show the state for scene 2, effectively overriding scene 1. When grouped, scene 1 will automatically deactivate and broadcast a deactivated state on the bus, causing button 1 LED to now show the deactivated state. A scene can only belong to one group. 16 groups are available or the No Group option can be selected. Groups can be renamed by selecting the Scene Groups tab. Enter a new name for the selected group in the Description box. Press SET to change the name in the list. Press UPDATE CONTROLLER to download the new settings to the scene controller. Press the Reload Button at any time to reload the Group setup from the scene controller and cancel any changes made to the list without the UPDATE CONTROLLER button being pressed. Page 6 of 13
3. Scene Triggers Scene Triggers define the input devices or buttons used to activate or deactivate a scene or mood. Up to 8 different inputs or buttons may be linked to a specific scene. The same button may be linked to multiple scenes. To add or change input triggers for a scene, double click on the scene channel in the device list after a LIST DEVICES and select the Scene Triggers tab. Click on ADD FROM NETWORK to add an Omni-Bus Wall Switch button or ADD RADIO REMOTE to add an Omni-Bus Wall Mount Remote or Keyfob Remote button Scene Mode The Scene Mode setting defines the behavior of the scene when a specific button is pressed. On/Off: Toggles the scene between activated and deactivated state when the button is pressed. On: Only activates the scene when the button is pressed. Off: Only deactivates the scene when the button is pressed. To change the setting for a button, select the button from the list, select the appropriate option from the dropdown list and click SET. Page 7 of 13
3.2. Scene State Feedback When disabled, no status feedback of the current state of the scene will be provided to the Omni-Bus wall-switch button LED. To change the setting for a button, select the button from the list, check or uncheck the option and click SET. Scene Feedback is only applicable to Bus devices and cannot be enabled for Radio Remote Controls User Level Programming When disabled, the button cannot be used to set User Programmable light levels (see 6. User Programmable Light Levels). To change the setting for a button, select the button from the list, check or uncheck the option and click SET. Page 8 of 13
4. Output Devices Output Devices is a global list of devices or loads to be controlled by the Scene Controller. Up to 256 output devices may be defined. To add or change output devices, double click on any scene channel in the device list after a LIST DEVICES and select the Output Devices tab. Click on ADD BUS DEVICE to add a new device. Three option are available: ADD FROM DEVICE LIST: Add a device from the listed devices. ENTER DEVICE SERIAL NUMBER: Select the device type and manually enter the device serial number. ADD ADDRESSED DEVICE: Enter the device address or unit number. Duplicate addresses are not allowed. Click on UPDATE CONTROLLER to download the list to the Scene Controller. Press the Reload Button at any time to reload the Output Device list from the scene controller and cancel any changes made to the list without the UPDATE CONTROLLER button being pressed. Page 9 of 13
5. Scene Outputs Scene Outputs defines how devices or loads are controlled by each scene. Devices to be controlled needs to be added to the Output Devices list first (see 4. Output Devices) To enable or change output devices for a scene, double click on the scene channel in the device list after a LIST DEVICES and select the Scene Outputs tab. All devices previously added under Output Devices will be listed Enabling Scene Outputs To include an output in the scene, select the device on the list and enable the checkbox next to the device or at the bottom. To exclude an output from the scene, select the device on the list and disable the checkbox next to the device or at the bottom. Page 10 of 13
5.2. Start Level Sets the start level of a device when the scene is activated. Set Level To: Set the light to a specific level. Leave as is: leave the light at its current level. User Programmable: Allow the house occupant to set his own light levels for this scene and output. A default level can be selected (see 6. User Programmable Light Levels). To apply a change to all the scene outputs, press the ALL button. To apply a change to all the scene outputs of the same type, press the ALL OF SAME TYPE button End Level Sets the end level of a device when the scene is deactivated. Set Level To: Set the light to a specific level. Leave as is: leave the light at its current level. Restore to Previous Level: Restore the light to the level before the scene was activated. To apply a change to all the scene outputs, press the ALL button. To apply a change to all the scene outputs of the same type, press the ALL OF SAME TYPE button Updating the Controller Click on UPDATE CONTROLLER to download the changes to the scene controller. By default any existing user programmed levels (see 6. User Programmable Light Levels) will be preserved in the scene controller. To overwrite the current levels with those in the list, check the checkbox above the UPDATE CONTROLLER button. Press the Reload Button at any time to reload the Scene Output setup from the scene controller and cancel any changes made to the list without the UPDATE CONTROLLER button being pressed. Page 11 of 13
6. User Programmable Light Levels User Programmable light levels enable the end user or occupant of the premises to set and change the light levels for a specific scene without using the OMNIBUS software. In the Scene Output setup for a scene set the start levels for all the user programmable lights to User Programmable (see 5.2 Start Level). Default levels can be specified here. To change the light levels at a later stage for the scene, manually set all lights in the scene to the desired values using the wall-switch buttons or remote control buttons assigned to the individual lights. Press and hold any scene trigger button that was assigned to the scene (see 3. Scene Triggers) until all the lights for that scene switches off. Ensure that User Level Programming is enabled for this button (see 3.3 User Level Programming) Release the scene trigger button. The new levels will now be stored into the scene controller for that scene. 7. Controlling a Scene from a HAI Controller Enter the Scene Controller setup by double clicking on the scene channel in the device list after a LIST DEVICES. Select the Setup tab. Set the Device Address Enable checkbox and enter a unit number corresponding to a unit number on the HAI controller. Click the SET button. Simply refer to this unit number in the HAI controller setup to activate or deactivate the scene from a HAI programming script, touchscreen or other input device. Page 12 of 13
8. Firmware Upgrade Obtain the latest firmware file from Home Automation, Inc In OMNIBUS software, perform a LIST DEVICES. Select any channel of the scene controller from the list. Select Tools, Upgrade Device Firmware. Open the firmware file by clicking the Browse button. Click on Start to download the file to the scene controller and wait for the update to finish. In case of corrupt application firmware due to an incomplete download (device does not list in OMNIBUS), the scene controller can be forced into the firmware download mode by selecting Tools, Upgrade Device Firmware with any device selected in the device list. Select the Enter Serial Number option and enter the serial number for the scene controller to be upgraded. Page 13 of 13
