1 TECHNICAL BULLETIN Uninstall Chinese Reader 6 A. Windows Control Panel MDBG Chinese Reader is a standards-based application. Use the Windows Control Panel to uninstall the program. 1. Click on the MDBG Chinese Reader program icon 2. Click Uninstall/Change 3. Choose Remove the application from this computer. 2 B. Clean Uninstall for Windows 7 and Vista MDBG Chinese Reader uses Microsoft s ClickOnce technology to install and update program files. If this installer becomes corrupt: Uninstall MDBG Chinese Reader using the Windows Control Panel (described on page 1) Delete files and manifests from the ClickOnce folder (this page) Re-install MDBG Chinese Reader (page 4) To delete the files: 1. In Windows 7 or Vista, navigate to: C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0 Substitute your user name for User. For example if your user name is Jonah, then navigate to C:\Users\Jonah\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0 Tip: For Windows XP users, see E. Clean Uninstall for Windows XP. Tip: If you are unable to reach this location, see D. View Hidden Folders in Windows 7 and Vista. 2. Open the folder with the random number/name (not Data). In the example above, open 1Z29W7HG.ZVQ 3. Open the next folder with a random number/name. In this example, open 1EYZ9MH6.Q8Q MDBG Technical Bulletin Page 2 of 10

3 4. Delete the folders starting with chin exe and chin tion 5. Scroll down and open the manifests folder MDBG Technical Bulletin Page 3 of 10

4 6. In the manifests folder, delete the files starting with chin exe and chin tion C. Reinstall Chinese Reader From your web browser, download MDBG Chinese Reader from and follow the on-screen instructions. After the installation is completed, restart your system. 5 D. View Hidden Folders in Windows 7 and Vista If you are unable to navigate to C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0, reach these files by un-hiding them. 1. From your user folder (e.g., C:\Users\Jonah if your user name is Jonah), click Organize > Folder and search options. 2. 9 7. In the manifests folder, delete the files starting with chin exe and chin tion F. Reinstall Chinese Reader From your web browser, download MDBG Chinese Reader from and follow the on-screen instructions. After the installation is completed, restart your system.
