4 1 Installing Perceptive Process Design Personal on Windows 1.1 Before you start the installation Installation of Perceptive Process Design Personal You are about to install Perceptive Process Design Personal on a computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system. The Perceptive Process Design Personal edition automatically installs and configures a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express database for you. If you want to uninstall Perceptive Process Design Personal or BPMone Design Personal from your computer, or upgrade from a previous version of Perceptive Process Design Personal or BPMone Design Personal, consult the installation guide for other editions of Perceptive Process. System requirements The supported versions of the Windows systems and databases are subject to change. See the Supported Platforms document for the current versions. Alternatively, you can visit our Customer Portal ( or contact Product Support. Licence file During the installation of Perceptive Process Design Personal you will need to upload a valid licence file. You can obtain a licence file from Product Support based on the activation code, computer name, operating system and address. Note Do not use a licence file that belongs to an edition of Perceptive Process other than Perceptive Process Design Personal. Installation prerequisites The following prerequisites are important for a successful installation. Check these prerequisites before you start the installation. If necessary, consult your system administrator. Prerequisite You must always install Perceptive Process on a local hard drive. (So not on a network drive, CD/DVD rewritable, etc.) Installing Perceptive Process Design Personal on Windows 4

5 If the computer on which Perceptive Process is installed is part of a domain: you must be logged onto the computer locally. (When logging in, select the computer name instead of the domain name.) you must have Windows administrator rights. (You must be part of the "Domain Administrators" group or the "Local Administrators" group.) If the name of the computer that Perceptive Process is installed on contains an underscore (_), you cannot log in to Perceptive Process Portal. The name can be any combination of letters (A-Z), numerals (0-9), and a hyphen (-). To check the computer name: Right-click My Computer and select Properties. You find the name of the computer on the View basic information about your computer page. Make sure that you have ticked the Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new program option. You can check if this setting is enabled in Control Panel, Windows Firewall. Before installing Perceptive Process you must first install Microsoft.NET Framework on your computer. You can check if this program is installed in Control Panel, Programs and features. Some of the Perceptive Process client components use JAVA technology. This requires a Java Runtime Engine (JRE) to be installed on your computer. You can check if this program is installed in Control Panel, Programs and features. Internet browser If you use Internet Explorer on Windows Vista or Windows 7, add Perceptive Process to the trusted websites list. Complete the following steps to add Perceptive Process to the trusted websites list: Step Action 1 Open Microsoft Internet Explorer. 2 Under Internet options, open the Security tab. 3 Select the Trusted websites zone and click on the Sites button. 4 Under Add this website to the zone type: Perceptive Process server>:5000 or Perceptive Process server>:5000 Click on the Add button. 6 1.2 Installing Perceptive Process Design Personal To install Perceptive Process Design Personal The installation procedure starts when you execute the installation file. When the installation phase is finished, the configuration phase starts. In this configuration phase you prepare Perceptive Process for use. During the installation and configuration you are asked a number of questions that you must answer by entering the information or clicking on an option. Note The language for the installation and configuration is English. After the installation, you can change the language settings for Perceptive Process. To install Perceptive Process Design Personal, complete the following steps. Step Action 1 Download the installation file for Perceptive Process Design Personal from the Customer Portal. 2 Double-click the installation file. The Welcome to the Perceptive Process Setup Wizard window is displayed. Note 1. The user name used to complete the installation must match the name of the user who will be work ing with Perceptive Process. 2. If the User Account Control window is displayed asking you to enter an administrator password, stop the installation and obtain administrator rights. 3 Click on Next to proceed. The End-User licence Agreement is displayed. 4 Select the option I accept the terms in the licence Agreement to accept the Licence Terms and Conditions. Click on Next. The Installation directories window is displayed. 5 In the Installation directories window (see illustration) you can change the directories in which the program or the data is installed. 7 If you do not want to install the Perceptive Process program files using the default location: Enter the path in the field behind Install the program files to:. Or Click on the Change... button and select the location. If you do not want to install the Perceptive Process data files using the default location: Enter the path in the field behind Install the data files to:. Or Click on the Change... button and select the location. Click on Next to proceed. 6 The Perceptive Process Checker window (see illustration) only appears when errors are encountered which prevent the installation process from continuing. 8 The Perceptive Process Checker shows the error(s) found and their possible solution(s). Resolve these error(s) and click on Retry. Note If necessary, read the Troubleshooting chapter. If no errors are found, the Installing Perceptive Process database window is displayed. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express is installed on your computer and a database is created for Perceptive Process. This installation is performed automatically. Once the software has been installed and the database has been created, the Ready to install Perceptive Process window is displayed. 7 Click on Install. The Installing Perceptive Process window is displayed. The files are copied to your computer, extracted and installed. This procedure is performed automatically. 9 Once the files have been installed, the Completed the Perceptive Process Setup Wizard window is displayed. 8 Click on Finish to continue with setting up Perceptive Process for first time use. Your browser is launched and the Perceptive Process Portal is now displayed with the First time use option in the System Control menu. 9 In the First time use window a number of steps are displayed which prepare Perceptive Process for use. The current step is indicated by the icon. If a step is performed successfully, the next step is activated. Step 1. Upload Licence file. In this step, you upload the licence file. Click on Browse... and navigate to the licence file. Select the licence file and click on Open. Click on Continue to go to the next screen. After you have imported a valid licence file, the second step is activated. Step 2. Initialising database. You don't need to do anything. This step is performed automatically. Once the database has been initialised, the next step is activated. Step 3. Configuring Perceptive Process server. You don't need to do anything. This step is performed automatically. Once the server has been configured, the last step is activated. Step 4. Open Perceptive Process Portal is performed. The Ready pop-up window is displayed. 10 If you want to use Perceptive Process immediately, click on Continue. Perceptive Process Portal is opened. Or If you do not want to use Perceptive Process immediately, untick Open Perceptive Process Portal automatically and then click on Continue. The First time use window is closed. 10 A program group is created on your computer, so you can launch Perceptive Process from the Windows Start menu. An icon is also created on your desktop. Double-click this icon to launch Perceptive Process. Note You can also launch Perceptive Process directly in your internet browser. 11 1.3 Troubleshooting General information about error messages If an error message appears during installation or first time use, a window is displayed with the cause of the error. This should enable you to solve the problem. If you are not sure how to resolve an issue, always contact Perceptive Software Product Support. Errors in the installation process If errors are found during the installation process, the Perceptive Process Checker window is displayed. The Perceptive Process Checker indicates the error and gives an extended description of the error. Error details for Product Support If you decide to contact Perceptive Software Product support, Perceptive Process Checker can provide error details for Product Support to help you resolve the issue. Complete the following steps to send an error report to Product Support from the Perceptive Process Checker window. 1. In the Perceptive Process Checker window, click on the button. A new message is created in your program containing a number of details required by Product Support to resolve the issue. 2. Add your own specific details to this (name, telephone number and address) and send it directly to Product Support. If it is not possible to send an from your environment, complete the following steps. 1. In the Perceptive Process Checker window, click on the Save button. 2. Save the checker.txt file on your computer 3. Contact Product Support by telephone. The checker.txt file contains details that allow Product Support to help you resolve the issue. Possible error messages in Perceptive Process Checker: The following table lists the possible error messages in Perceptive Process Checker. 12 Java is not installed on your computer. Please install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Perceptive Process uses Java. You can download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) from the following website: Please install Microsoft.NET 2.0 Microsoft.NET Framework is an auxiliary program from Microsoft which is required for Perceptive Process to work. You can download and install Microsoft. NET Framework (version 2.0 or higher) from the following website: www. microsoft.com. SQL Server 2005 Express setup fails when MSXML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 has already been installed. See Microsoft KB A Microsoft update has already been installed on your computer and consequently Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express cannot be installed. For more information, go to: support.microsoft.com/kb/ TCP-layer is not standard There is a problem with the (TCP) communication layer on your computer. This may be caused by many different reasons. The temporary folder is not available or not writable The temporary folder (% TEMP%) cannot be accessed. This may be caused by many different reasons. The current user has no administrative rights or is not an elevated administrator The user rights of the user currently logged on to Windows are insufficient to perform an installation of Perceptive Process. You need administrator rights to be able to install Perceptive Process. Log on to your system with sufficient administrator rights and restart the installation. Note: The user name that is used to complete the installation must match the user name of the user who will be working with Perceptive Process. Port 5000 is not available for Perceptive Process. Perceptive Process uses port 5000, but this port is already in use by another process. Another version of Perceptive Process is found A version of Perceptive Process or BPMone has already been installed on your computer. Uninstall this version and delete the corresponding key from the Windows Registry. Examples: For older versions of BPMone the Registry key is: Installing Perceptive Process Design Personal on Windows 12

13 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wave- Front\BPMone\Server For BPMone 2.8 and 2.9 the Registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Percept ive Software\BPMone\Server For Perceptive Process 3.0 the Registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Percept ive Process\bpm\Server The default Perceptive Process installation folder is not empty. Please empty the default installation folder (C: \Program Files\bpm\Server) A folder with the same name as the folder in which you want to install Perceptive Process (the default folder is <drive>: \Program Files\bpm\Server) already exists. This folder is not empty. Copy the location below (including the % characters) to the address bar Windows Explorer address bar: %ProgramFiles%\bpm\Server Then delete all files from this folder. Note: First uninstall Perceptive Process before you delete the files from the installation folder. Selected Perceptive Process Data directory is not empty. Please make sure the directory is empty. A version of Perceptive Process has already been installed on your computer. Uninstall this version. Next, delete the data folder. The default folder is: <drive>: \ProgramData\bpm\Server). Errors in First Time Use The following error can be displayed during First Time use: An invalid licence file has been found. If this error is displayed, check the following: Is the licence file obtained from Perceptive Software? Is the file a licence file for Perceptive Process Design Personal? Does the computer name match the name for which the licence file was requested? A licence file is generated based on the computer name on which the software is to be installed.
