1 Configure router The Raspberry Pi 3 (RPi) should be assigned a fixed IP address in the router. After installing osmc for the first time, you should configure the router. 26. Start AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder). The AirPort Utility window show a component diagram:

2 27. Click on the AirPort base station icon to display the password window: 28. Click on Enter Password, enter the AirPort base station password and click OK:

3 29. Click on the AirPort base station icon to see a list of wireless clients: 30. Click on the osmc wireless client to see information about the Raspberry Pi 3:

4 31. Write down the hardware address (i.e. MAC address). For this Raspberry Pi 3, the hardware address is B8:27:EB:1C:77:FA. Then click on Edit to view the Base Station: 32. Click on Network to view the Network pane:

5 33. Click on the + sign in the DHCP Reservations section to add a reservation for the Raspberry Pi 3: 34. Select Mac Address for Reserve Address By. Type Raspberry Pi 3 in the Description field. Enter the MAC address you noted, and assign an IP address. (I used because it was the next available IP address after the ones I had already assigned for other devices.)

In preparation for enabling VPN (Virtual Private Network) and to avoid having to run AirPort Utility again, set up OpenVPN port forwarding, which uses Port Click on the + sign in the Port Settings section and enter VPN RPi for the Description, 1194 in the Public TCP Ports and Private TCP Ports fields, and in the Private IP Address fields:

7 36. Click Save and then Update. The router will restart with the Raspberry Pi 3 IP address fixed. Quit AirPort Utility. 37. In Terminal, do: rm ~/.ssh/known_hosts ssh osmc@ Respond yes at the prompt to create an updated known_hosts file. At the password prompt type osmc. osmc performs a couple initialization steps before displaying the command line prompt. Type exit to leave the secure shell and return to the Mac. (You will see Connection to closed.)

8 Install VNC Server The VNC Server allows you to view and control the osmc GUI from your Mac. The VNC Server installation described here is adapted from the tutorial at (See also In Terminal, copy the VNC installation script (vncstall.sh, Appendix A) to the RPi: cd "$HOME/Documents/Raspberry Pi/VNC Server" scp vncinstall.sh [Enter password osmc at prompt] 39. Log in to the RPi and install the VNC Server: ssh [Enter password osmc at prompt] sudo./vncinstall.sh [Type Y at any 'Do you want to continue' prompts.] [If password is requested, enter osmc.] Complete Initial Installation Steps 40. Make sure that the RPi is not connected to a TV via a HDMI cable. (When accessing the RPi from the Mac, the window that is opened on the Mac is apparently determined by information obtained over the HDMI connection to the TV and so it is large and the refresh performance is poor.) 41. In the Mac menu bar, select Go > Connect to Server and in the Server Address box enter: vnc:// Click on the '+' to save it in the Favorite Servers list.

9 42. Click Connect to start VNC and display the OSMC Startup Screen. (You may need to enter the password osmc.) 43. Use the keyboard up and down arrow keys to select English (US). Type Return and the click Yes to confirm the language selection. 44. Now set up the Timezone. Select America and then s city in the same timezone as the RPi. 45. Now you can set the Hostname. Just leave it unchanged. Click Accept. 46. Now you can enable/disable ssh (Secure Shell). It is enabled by default. Leave it unchanged. Click Accept. 47. Now view the Software Agreement and click Continue. 48. Select Look + Feel and then select Classic. This will change the screens to the Confluence screen layout which is the default for Kodi and conforms to much documentation obtainable on the internet.
