THE VISION TM INTERFACE Following the software interface evolution trend which actually concerns almost all Windows/Linux based application software; OROS has developed a modern and dedicated graphic user interface called Vision. It replaces the existing menus and tools bar of NVGate (and gradually the others OROS software in the future) by a set of tabs. OVERVIEW The Vision interface gathers the analyzers functionalities in simple, clear and easy to identify tabs organized according to the main operations (First steps, measuring, results edition, configuration build-up, automation, general setup etc ). Key features have been emphasized by the Vision interface, guiding the users to the best way using their OROS 3-Series analyzer. GRAPHIC USER INTERFACE TAB & GROUPS The new interface layer features 7 standard tabs. Each tab contains a set of groups which gathers settings, info and buttons about one topic (e.g. disk, FFT or transducers). File menu Tabs Active tab Group ACTIONS The groups contain buttons, setting and check boxes of different types. Buttons: Left click on it lead to an action or open a dialog box. o Examples: for auto scale or for inputs connection Status buttons: These buttons work like the standard ones but they can be activated or de-activated. They are used for changing a state. An activated button is slightly darkened. o Examples: that switches between on-line and post-analysis modes, or for enabling the marker manipulations. Settings: Provide a direct access to one of the ASB setting. Allow to continuously check the setup. o Examples: for a numerical setting, F

for a Boolean (check box), for a selection in a list: Multi-actions: These buttons works as the standard ones but it is possible to select their action from a list. When an action item is selected from the list, it became the default action of the button, the icon is changed. Examples are: Marker, or User selection. Click here to display the list of possible actions Select the default action here. Click here for action Status buttons: These buttons change and show the status of the active element (windows, trace, etc..). Selecting one of the item in their list will apply this status to the active element. The status buttons change depending on the applied changes to the element (or change of element). It is useful to monitor and see immediately in what state is a 3D or the active user for ex. Note: The buttons are highlighted when the mouse pointer pass over an active button. FILE MENU A unique File menu is available on upper left for input/output file operation. It allows loading/saving setups and provides access to the on-line help STATUS BAR At the bottom of the screen a fixed status bar maintain a continuous monitoring of the inputs and analysis: Run/Pause/Stop Active plug-in status Office/connected Inputs Status Accept/reject Battery COMPATIBILITY All existing interfaces (contextual menus, ASB, dialog windows, project manager, control-panel, log/info, etc...) have been kept in Vision except the menus and the toolbars. Of course we preserved any existing features of the NVGate/OR3X couple; they just have been moved to the Vision s tabs. F

NVGate7 is compatible with all existing NVSolutions (OROS and partners ones) and third party software developed by for NVGate. The Vision interface is automatically disabled for the NVSolutions which run thev6.xx interface only. TABS With Vision the software entries are organized in a logical operations way. There is 7 different tabs corresponding to 3 main operations type: MEASURE SETUP CUSTOM MEASURING WITH NVGATE7 The principal goal our instrument is to measure noise and vibrations. The tabs corresponding to such operations are gathered at the top left of the interface. THE HOME TAB This first tab features 2 mains services, which are proposed when entering the software (first time and regularly) Entering directly in the different modes of the software (start group) Set up the general options of the instrument (other groups). START GROUP It gathers the entry points for setup selection or build as well as the access to the different modes of the software (measurements editor, post analyze, model load). BUILDING AND TUNNIG A SETUP WITH NVGATE7 This section of the Vision tab offers a clear way to build or modify a measurement or post-analysis configuration. It cover the main steps of a configuration setup: ACQUISITION ANALYSES DISPLAY These steps are respectively managed by the Acquisition, Analyses and Display/Graphs tabs: THE ACQUISITION TAB This tab provides all the necessary entries to setup the front-end and the use of any channels in details. It separates the acquisition channels setup from the outputs, triggering, tachometer, and filters ones. A special group is available to manage the recorder setup. While switching to post-analysis the inputs group is swapped to player track group which control the player operations, track connections and track setup. SOURCE DISPATCHER GROUPS The Inputs, Outputs, Tachometers, Events and Filters groups operates in the same way. F

1. One unique button allows dispatching the sources (e.g. inputs, Ext. sync, Internal event, Filters or Output signals) to the requested use (e.g. Plug-in analyzer, recording, generators, triggers or channels). 2. Then a set of smaller buttons provide direct access to setup theses sources (i.e. open the corresponding ASB properties dialog boxes) 3. For the Events and Filters group, the direct acces button is provide with a multi-access button 4. The External sync. Inputs benefit of special button due to their importance in rotating applications. Manage the DC inputs properties Manage the generator muting, ramp and synchronization Filter group (reduced on some low res display) Player control (available in post-analysis) Click here to see entire group RECORDER GROUP This group let set up the recorder plug-in. It allows to automate repetitive operations made with the analyzer 2 tabs are concerned: The report and tool ones. THE REPORT TAB This tab is dedicated to the report generation. It contains the necessary tools to build up or modify a template into MS Word or Excel. The use of the tab is no more requested as soon a template has been build up; the report can be generated from the Measurement tab. The report operations are detailed in the Reporting tools chapter of this document. F

THE TOOLS TAB The tool tab contains powerful and helpful tools to automate repetitive tasks made with the analyzers MACROS AND SEQUENCES GROUPS Macros and sequences achieve repeated operations for you. It is also an efficient way to secure measurements and analysis by guarantying their repeatability. Both groups provide a manager button which opens the file management for macro and sequences: File management dialogs Reset to initial step Loaded sequence name Opens the macro editor Records and run controls Reset to initial step Browse the sequences steps Note: available in disabled node only Current step name CONTROL PANEL GROUP This group features simple accesses to customize the control panel. The Setting, Status and Macro tabs have distinguished for simpler operations MASKS AND ALARMS GROUP This group gathers the mask edition and the alarm management. Mask edition allows building up (or import) limits in the NVGate results format (Spectrum, orders, 1/n Oct, etc ). The alarm monitors the content of a result window which includes a mask. In case of limits crossing, the macros are triggered and corresponding actions follow. Open the Mask editor File management dialogs Manage or check existing alarms Create an alarm monitoring in a graph Note: graph must contain a mask F

VIRTUAL INPUTS GROUP This group gives access to one of the new feature of NVGate7: the real-time computation between channels. The content of this new feature is detailed in the Virtual inputs chapter of this document. LINK GROUP This part of the Tools tab provides a link to external software. One a target is selected, each mousse click on the Execute button launches the target software. As a reminder, the target software can be any executable file from windows (.bat,.exe, shortcuts, etc...). Simply add one target in the c:/oros/nvgate/links directory and you will be able to use directly for the NVGate interface. Target selection Run the target REPORTING This release of NVGate introduces an entirely new reporting mode. Powered by the Vision interface and still based on the use of templates, the NVGate7 reporting toolset focuses on intuitive transfer of analyzer s data, leaving to MSOffice the page setup and extra content. OVERVIEW The reporting tools are gathered in a dedicated tab called Reports. The Reports tab features 4 groups that offer respectively; the file selection (Word or Excel), the format of dropped data, contextual information and graphics preferences. The report tab is divided in 2 sections: Operational: Select a template and refresh /print Creation: Format, references and graphics preferences PRINTING A REPORT WITH NVGATE7 With NVGate7, generating a report consists on simples and clear operations: 1. Select a template (or target file) 2. Update its content with NVGate measurements 3. Save or print the report The report templates are built up with the Reports tab, and then the report generation is available from the Measurement and Reports tabs. F

ACTIVE FILE GROUP This group is used to select which file will be used for report and to update/print it. The file must be opened and one of the following; Word or Excel (2003, 2007 and 2010). To select the file, movr the mouse over the File selection combo-box, the software will check the opened file on the computer a fill up the list. It is then possible to select the working template. Actions: Print: send the file to the default printer Refresh: update NVGate content in the file Refresh & Print: update, then print File to be updated/printed Opened Word or Excel document BUILDING UP A TEMPLATE WITH NVGATE7 The Reports tab and others parts of the NVGate GUI are available to create a template or even to update an existing one for your reports. The operations are based on the use of Drag & Drop; Select an item from NVGate and drop it into the template. The software will add a TAG in the target file and then update it with the corresponding NVGate data. Example: To add a graphical result(s) into a word document, click on the corresponding window area, then drag & drop it at the chosen location in the template: 3 Drop into Word or Excel at chosen location 1 - Select the window area (grey) 2 - Drag to the target file While selecting an OROS Item for reporting, an icon is displayed on the cursor to confirm: this item is droppable in the report, the used format (drop style) in the report F

Obviously any text, image, table, link can be used in the template to enrich the report with results interpretation, corporate data, and others. NVGate items are identified by a tag in the template. The tags are editable in Excel cells, hidden text in Word (apply the mode to see the tags) or replacement text for the images (select image format and then replacement text). Example of tags: [NVGate Graph Layout1 Window1] For a window [NVGate Data ActiveTrace Layout1 Window1]Table[/] For a result dataset [NVGate Setting Label Value Unit]Range pk 10 V[/] For a setting [NVGate CurrentMeasurement Comments]My comments here [/] For a measurement comment The tag must be kept complete i.e: the last part: [/] has to remain associated to the tag without carriage return between except for the multi-line reports. As soon as data are deposited in a template their format is 100% free. Size, color, font, location, insertion, etc can be changed to ensure a coherent page setup with existing document or complies with a company charter. Removing the tags will definitely remove the link between NVGate and the template (i.e. the item content is no more refreshed) AVAILIABLE ITEMS FOR REPORT Most of the information that can be added to a template come from the NVGate windows and analyzer setting trees (ASB and ASV). Drag & drop the selected Item to the target file in order to add the corresponding tag (and refreshable data) to the template. Graph legend Results (graph or data) Marker or scalar table Settings from the ASV Report from an edited measurement Settings from the ASB Report from direct acquisition F

DROP STYLE GROUP This group allows defining the format of the data in the report file. Indeed, analysis results can be exported as data or graph as well as a setting format includes its name or units. Select the data format while dropped in the template Select the setting format while dropped into the template FOR RESULTS Graph will deposit an image of the dragged windows in the same way as the copy/paste graph Active Trace will deposit a table that contains the active trace data (X and Y) in the same way as the copy/paste data/active trace All Traces will deposit a table that contains all traces data (X and Y1, Y2, Yn ) Note: advise not to use the Active Trace or All Traces for narrow band spectra within Word documents. It leads to a long process into Word. FOR SETTINGS Label/Value/Unit will deposit the dragged setting in the described format. E.g: for the sensitivity of a channel; o Label = Sensitivity (depending on the NVGate language) o Value = 10m o Unit = V/g (depending on the active preferences) Value (SI) will deposit the dragged setting value in the SI units (m, A,V, s, etc ). This options force the value to be expressed in SI. The settings export is useful to build tables for the front-end or analyses setting in the report. Example: Input # Label Sensitivity Transducer 1 Body Top Acc 10 mv/g PCB Cyl 1 pres 500 nn/m² PRS 33 Ext 1 Torsion shaft pulses/rev OROS tach. Filled by NVGate reporting REFERENCES GROUP In addition to the actual measurement setup and result data, a measurement must be identified and detailed by meta-data. This group provides such information to be inserted in the report. F

The project and measurement identification allow locating the data in your computer or network. The date and comments remind the local context of the measurement. The user name is useful to check with the operator in case of misunderstanding. Project name or Comments Measurements name, date or Comments User name Query to operator AUTOMATIC QUERY Some information or data does not have a place to be saved ina noise and vibration analyzer (e.g: unit under test S/N or duration of warm up).for this purpose NVGate7 propose to insert systematic queries in the report process reports. When a query exists, it will be asked to the operator and its answer will be inserted in the report. Operations: Click on the Automatic query, a dialog is displayed: Query to rise at report time Default answer used if the operator does not answers Drag & Drop this icon to deposit the operator answer in the report The query can be issued (dropped) in the report document as many time as required. The question will be raised only once for each different query. REPORTS PAGE SETUP WITH NVGATE7 Reports are dedicated to be viewed out of the analysis software (electronic documents, paper, s), then the NVGate dedicated color may be not suitable for this destinations. Addressing the issue, NVGate7 introduces a printer color management. Specific colors and traces widths preferences are used for the graphs in reports. Moreover, 2 different profiles allow managing both colored and black and white reports. Select here the print colors profile Click here to modify the colors of each part of the graphs Click here to modify the colors of each trace in reports Select the traces width in report s F

The Print color profile is saved in the active user preferences set. The changes apply to the active reports at each refreshment time. VIRTUAL INPUTS NVGate7 bring a brand new plug-in that increases dramatically the adaptability of the 3-Series analyzers to crossed-channels measurements. Allowing comparison and math between any inputs, the Virtual Inputs plugin open the way of the direct reading of time domain Transfer function, Torsional twist, Absolute/relative motion and acceleration measurements in real-time. The Virtual inputs plug-in is an optional feature of NVGate. OVERVIEW The virtual inputs consist of an intermediate processing stage inserted between the front end and the analyses. Each inputs (or player tracks) can be drag& dropped to the virtual inputs plug-in. A virtual input (i.e. the result of calculation between inputs) is treated as a standard input. It can be sue in the following processes: Plug-in analyzers (FFTx, SOA,x, 1/n OCT, TDA, etc..) Recording Monitoring Triggering: Edge, Level, Delta Level Tachometer sources Output generators The active virtual inputs are made available in the connection trees (i.e. the signal distribution dialog boxes from the Acquisition tab) for a standard use. Signals from virtual inputs are 100% in phase with the front end inputs or player tracks. There are 2 different types of virtual inputs: The Dynamic ones which manage the dynamic inputs for analysis, triggering and recording purpose The Parametric ones which manage the DC inputs (parameters) for triggering recording and waterfall referencing purpose THE VIRTUAL INPUTS GROUP The Virtual inputs operations are managed from the Vision s Tools/Virtual inputs group or directly from the ASB plug-ins. The Inputs are to D&D to the Virtual inputs plug-in where the DC inputs are to be D&D to the Virtual DC. F

DYNAMIC VIRTUAL INPUTS The structure of the Virtual inputs plug-in allows polynomial operations between standard inputs. Basically each channels is a member of the polynomial, on which apply a filter, a multiplication coefficient an offset and an power: c P ( Filter( Input A B ) c Channel = ) + The Virtual inputs plug-in generates signals from operators. There are 12 operators available. The operator gathers the polynomial member in one signal. c c Operator = Channel A + B ) n ( For sum operation i i i i P n Operator ) n P = ( Channeli A + B n For product operation i i i The coefficients (A), offsets (B) and powers (P) can be either: Positive or negative: +5 or -2 Integer or real Fractional: -3 or 0.5 This structure allows multiple formulas to be applied, such as: Difference of 2 signals (negative A coeff.) Quadratic sum (Ch power = 2, operator power = ½) Ratio of 2 signals (ch power = -1) Weighted sum or products Etc Up to 12 channels can be used in one operator. EXAMPLE: TORSIONAL TWIST In this example 2 OHC (over head camshaft) of a diesel engine are subject to harsh relative speed variation due to the admission and exhaust laws applied to the engine. The goal is to evaluate the valvetrain belt stress by measuring the relative speed (or acceleration) between the 2 OHC. Click here to open the inputs connection tree Click here to setup the channels & operators First the 2 OHC torsional speeds are connected to the virtual inputs channels 1 & 2. NB: Use the connect button of the Tools/Virtual input group. Apply the parameter to each channel using the Dynamic button For a difference of 2 signals F

The operator type and operand are selected from the Operator tab: Click here to select the type of operation: Sum or product Click here to select the Operands from the channels list Select up to 12 channels per operator The physical quantities and applied coefficients are shown here The differnec of the 2 OHC signals (the operators result is then available from the front-end or player track connection trees in the acquisition tab. The 2 OHC speeds The differential speed Any type of analyses can be applied on tehis new signal (e.g: the time domain analysis). PARAMETRIC VIRTUAL INPUTS The parameters such as temperature, torque, voltage or power are subject to more advanced calculation as they may come from multiple transducers type and location that require being pre-processed prior to their use. For this purpose the Virtual inputs option feature a direct editor to setup the math applied on such DC inputs. The DC channels must be connected to the Virtual DC plug-in before using it in an operator: F

The added channels can then be used in the Virtual DC editor of each operator: Click here to open the Virtual DC operator settings Define the output physical quatity Define the output range Output equation FORMULA EDITOR The formula editor accepts various math operators and functions such as square root, logarithms and power allowing polynomial equations. The following table gives the syntax of the operators and functions; In/out Chi N.A. Description Channel i level The output level is the result of the last line in the editor Operator Description + Parameter or constant addition with another parameter or constant - Parameter or constant subtraction from another parameter or constant * Parameter or constant multiplication by another parameter or constant / Parameter or constant division by another parameter or constant ^ Parameter or constant powered by another parameter or constant = Parameter affectation with the expression result at the right of sign Function Sin(x) Cos(x) Tan(x) ASin(x) ACos(x) ATan(x) Description Returns the sine of expression or parameter x Returns the cosine of expression or parameter x Returns the tangent of expression or parameter x Returns the arc sine of expression or parameter x Returns the arc cosine of expression or parameter x Returns the arc tangent of expression or parameter x F

Sinh(x) Returns the hyperbolic sine of expression or parameter x Cosh(x) Returns the hyperbolic cosine of expression or parameter x Tanh(x) Returns the hyperbolic tangent of expression or parameter x ASinh(x) Returns the hyperbolic arc sine of expression or parameter x ACosh(x) Returns the hyperbolic arc cosine of expression or parameter x ATanh(x) Returns the hyperbolic arc tangent of expression or parameter x Log2(x) Returns the base 2 logarithm of expression or parameter x Log10(x) Returns the base 10 logarithm of expression or parameter x Log(x) Returns the base 10 logarithm of expression or parameter x Ln(x) Returns the base e (natural) logarithm of expression or parameter x Exp(x) Returns the exponential of expression or parameter x Sqrt(x) Returns the square root of expression or parameter x Abs(x) Returns the absolute value of expression or parameter x Min(x,y, ) Returns the minimum level of listed parameters Max(x,y, ) Returns the minimum level of listed parameters Sum(x,y, ) Returns the sum of listed parameters Avg(x,y, ) Returns the average level of listed parameters Predefined Description pi e Constant pi ( ). Do not declare any constant with this name Constant e (2.718). Do not declare any constant with this name Constants and parameters can be defined (except pi and e) using the = sign; eg: var1 = pi * 2 or var2 = rpm1/2. The constants may be defined once only. Parameter/constant names must start with a letter and may be ended by a number. The dot (.) is always the decimal separator independently from the OS preferences and the comma (,) is used as parameter separator. The editor does not check the dimension of this result. The content of the formula can be copy/paste from any text editor. FUNCTIONS & IMPROVEMENTS In addition to its 3 main features, NVGate7 offers multiple improvements and functions. TIME DATA ANGULAR SHIFT This feature is useful to compare repeatable cycles in reciprocating machineries like engines or pumps. It allows shifting the trigger blocks by a fixed angle whatever the rotating speed. Obviously this function is part of the synchronous order analysis plug-in. The main application consists of overlapping the cylinder cycles in order to detect the incoherent ones. This is a simple and very efficient method to identify the default location. F

The angular shift is standard feature of the SOA in NVGate7. It occurs as a new setting in the SOA channels: Phase shift. This setting is independent for each channel and can be change in the range of +/- 720 in order to cover up the cycle duration of 4 stroke engines in both directions (forward/backward). Negative phase shift move the block Positive phase shift move the block forward SIMULTANEOUS RPM AND ANGULAR VELOCITY MEASURMENTS Accompanying the torsional measurement and analyses capability of the 3-Series analyzers, NVGate7 goes one step further with 2 new features. SIMULTANEOUS TACH/TORSIONAL ON UNIQUE INPUT This allows using the same External sync input to read both RPM speed and instantaneous angular velocity. This is useful in both saving channels number and transducer installation. The dual mode is selected from the Front-end/Ext. sync i/mode setting or directly from the Acquisition/Tachometer/Ext. sync Vision item. Classic ASB access Vison access When the external sync is running the Torsional + Tach mode, both signals are available for NVGate process. The phase reference for the tachometer depends on the read pulses: Existing missing pulse(s): The reference (0 ) is the first pulse occurrence after the missing ones A randomly defined pulse in the revolution. This phase remains constant during the measurement. F

SEPARATED UNITS FOR ROTATING SPEED AND TORSIONAL Rotating speed and torsional acquisitions have different goals. The first one looks at the macroscopic RPM variation (from one rev to the next ones) where the torsional one pays attention to the angular speed variation during the revolution. This main difference is retrieved in the used units. With NVGate7 a new physical quantity has been added to allow different units for these 2 types of the angular velocity measurements. GRAPHICS DECIMAL DIGITS SUPPRESSION ON RPM VIEWMETER RPM measurement accuracy depends on the frequency accuracy of the analyzer. A frequency analyzer has very accurate frequency reference, this lead to accurate RPM measurments that shows multiple decimal point on the RPM figures. DECIMAL DIGITS SUPPRESSION ON RPM VIEWMETER The waterfall 3D is one of the best tool to look into a signal variation like a rotating machinery coast down. This 3D space emphases the orders and modes identification. Browsing and marking such elements requires adapted cursors. With NVGate7, the 3D cursors have been reviewed to offer finer and always visible cursors for all 3D view type (Cascade and color spectrogram). The new cursors do not mask the data and remains visible even while being behind the data (e.g.: peaks). F

LAYOUTS MANAGEMENT It is now possible to rename or remove the layouts of NVGate directly from the add/remove interface. This is helpful renaming the Layout1 (that was not possible before) and organizing the Layout during the windows management. Layout level A Layouts level has been inserted in the Add/Remove dialog. It features both rename and remove functions accessible by right click or the rename/remove buttons used for the windows management. MISCELANEAOUS AUTOMATIC MIDDLEWARE UPDATE Updating to NVGate7 with your hardware includes the automatic analyzer update. Indeed if the software is lunched on a hardware that is not version compatible, the analyzer middleware is updated during the launche process. COMPATIBILITY With the arrival of news versions of Microsoft Windows OS and Office, NVGate has been updated to ensure a continuous compatibility with the latest computer on the market. NVGate7 is: Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7 OS compatible Microsoft Word and Excel 2003, 2007 and 2010 compatible for report, sequence, mask, export. Windows XP, Vista and 7 version theme applies to the NVGate7 environment (dialog, buttons, etc ) SOS (STAY ON SITE) For customer whom need a 24/7 operability of their analyzers, OROS propose spare hardware to be on site and ready to replace faulty ones. For this purpose NVGate7 can run with activable temporary licenses which cover the use of spare hardware. A typical sequence is as follow: 1. Main analyzer is installed on customer site 2. A spare unit is loaned by OROS to stay on site with an SOS license (a key file) 3. If the main instrument shows a failure, it is replaced by the spare one 4. The SOS keys are activated for the spare instrument for a limited duration 5. The faulty analyzer is sent to a maintenance center for repair 6. Any time NVGate is launched with the SOS keys it remind the remaining time (X days) ORO can remotely extend this license validity to covers the requested repair time 7. When the main unit is repaired, it is replaced on site and the spare one parked on site. F
