LEDS The evaluation board includes five red LEDs. Four LEDs (LED0, LED, LED and LED) are connected to the General Purpose I/O (GPIO) pins of the module via the DIP switches and the module connector pins. They can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switches. Figure details the interface between the GPIO and the LEDs. The LEDs are active low and interfaced via a buffer allowing for the same intensity from the LED across the entire operating voltage range of the module (_Module). The fifth LED (PWR) is connected to the supply to indicate power has been supplied to the evaluation board. When supplying power via the External Power Supply Header the PWR LED will not illuminate, such that accurate current measurements can be obtained from the external supply. _MODULE 00K LED x LED 0 Figure : LED Schematic PUSH-BUTTONS The evaluation board includes five push-button switches. Four push-button switches (SW0, SW, SW and SW) are connected to the GPIO pins of the module via the DIP switches and the module connector pins. They can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switches. Figure details the interface between the GPIO and the push-button switches. The push-buttons are active low. Reading a released push-button will result in _Module. The fifth push-button (RESET) is connected to the target module s RESET pin. _MODULE K SWx SWx 0 nf Figure : Push-button Schematic Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page

USB INTERFACE The UEVB has a single USB interface, which is connected to the target module s RS- interface via a USB to RS- transceiver. If the target module has more than one RS- interface and is programmable via one of the RS- interfaces, the USB interface is connected to the programming RS- interface. The USB interface can be used for communicating between the target module and another serial device, (i.e., a PC running a terminal program) when the target module is not in programming mode. The Silicon Laboratories CP0x family of USB to RS- transceivers is used on the UEVB followed by a level shifting IC. This allows proper logic levels to the device under test across the entire voltage operating range of the module. The USB interface can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switch. Hardware Flow Control (RTS/CTS) is not used. SERIAL FLASH An 8Mbit serial Flash memory is included on the UEVB for non-volatile data storage as well as Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. The serial Flash memory has a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). The serial Flash memory found on the UEVB is manufactured by Numonyx (Part Number: MP80-VMN6TP). The serial Flash memory is connected to the SPI interface of the module (when available). The serial Flash memory can be disconnected via the DIP switches. uf 00K 00K CS S 8 WP MISO Q W HOLD C 7 6 SCK 4 VSS D MOS Figure 4: Serial Flash Schematic Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page 6

MODULE CONNECTOR The module connectors are comprised of the three 0-pin headers located adjacent to the DIP switches. These connectors are utilized when connecting the module carrier board to the UEVB. Once the carrier board has been populated on the module connectors, the module located on the carrier board can be programmed and/or used in an application exercising the UEVB components. As detailed in the module datasheet(s), to achieve optimum antenna performance, the module s PCB Inverted-F antenna overhangs the UEVB. See the Antenna Section of the corresponding module datasheet for further details. Figure : Module Connector Pinout Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page 7

DAUGHTERCARD EXPANSION PORT The UEVB has a 60-pin expansion port. All module I/O ports, programming signals, control signals and UEVB feature signals are routed to the expansion port. The expansion port allows for application-specific daughtercards, debugging or prototyping to be performed easily on the UEVB platform. For users who might want to create their own expansion board, the connector that mates to the UEVB expansion port is the SAMTEC FTSH-0-04-L-DA-A. Figure 6: Daughtercard Expansion Port Pinout Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page 8

RESET PUSH-BUTTON The RESET push-button resets the target module when pressed. When the push-button is released the target module begins normal operation. RESET is active low. The RESET push-button can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switch. Figure 7: Reset Push-button Schematic PIEZO BUZZER The piezo buzzer, located on the bottom of the UEVB, is driven via a Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) signal generated from the module s microcontroller. The resonant frequency of the buzzer is 4kHz. The piezo buzzer can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switch. Figure 8: Piezo Buzzer Schematic POWER LED The red PWR LED is directly connected to the UEVB main power supply. The PWR LED is illuminated whenever power is supplied to the UEVB. The pin is connected to the regulator output of either the USB or external AC/DC adapter, or the battery voltage. Powering the module via the external supply header on the UEVB will not illuminate the PWR LED, so that an accurate current measurement may be obtained. However, if the USB connection is still present (in order to communicate with the device under test) when using the external supply, then the PWR LED will be illuminated. 0 PWR Figure 9: Power LED Schematic Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page 9

ANALOG INPUT SELECT The UEVB contains three analog inputs: a potentiomer, a temperature sensor, or a photo resistor; however, only one input is routed to the module s actual analog interface. The Analog Input Select jumper block allows for selecting which analog device is to be connected to the module. The analog signal can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switch. Figure 0: Analog Input Select Pinout POTENTIOMETER One of the UEVB s analog interfaces is a potentiometer. The potentiometer is a variable resistor offering an analog voltage range of 0-.6 Volts. The potentiometer can be connected or disconnected via the Analog Input Select jumper block; Figure illustrates the potentiometer interface. Figure : Potentiometer Schematic Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page 0

TEMPERATURE SENSOR One of the UEVB s analog interfaces is a temperature sensor. The temperature sensor is a variable resistor offering an analog voltage range of 0-. Volts. The temperature sensor used on the UEVB is National Semiconductor, Part Number LM0BIM7.The temperature sensor can be connected or disconnected via the Analog Input Select jumper block. Figure details the temperature sensor interconnects. 4 0nF V+ VO NC 00K 00K TEMP Figure : Temperature Sensor Schematic PHOTOCELL/PHOTO RESISTOR One of the UEVB s analog interfaces is a photo resistor. POWER SWITCH The three-position Slider Switch (SW4) operates in accordance with the settings given in the table below. The red PWR LED illuminates when sufficient power is applied to the evaluation board through the following supply source. Power Switch Position VREG AC Adapter Power Supply VUSB:.0V DC Jack:.0-.0V Battery.0V Description In this position the evaluation board and module are powered from either the USB interface or via an external power supply through the DC jack In this position the evaluation board and module are power from two.v type AA batteries EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY HEADER The External Power Supply Header, in conjunction with the Power Switch, allows the module to be powered via an external source. This allows the voltage seen by the module to be varied over the entire operating range. The header pins are identified below. SENSE+: Positive power supply sense line (optional) EXTERNAL : Positive power supply line (see module datasheet for valid voltage range) : Negative power supply line SENSE-: Negative power supply sense line (optional) As this header supplies power to the module only and not to any of the peripheral circuits/components on the UEVB, it is necessary to also power the evaluation board through either the USB interface or the DC input jack. DC POWER JACK An external -V center-positive (minimum 00mA at V) DC power supply can be used to supply power to the UEVB. If the DC power jack is used as the power source, the unregulated supply is also available at the Unregulated Power Header for use with application daughtercards. Note: Using an incorrect power supply (e.g., center - negative) could result in damage to the UEVB and/or target module. MODULE CURRENT MEASUREMENT HEADER This header allows for the measurement of current consumed by the module. Removing the jumper and connecting an ammeter between the two pins allows the module current to be measured (without any contributions from the evaluation board). The SENSE+ pin on the External Power Supply Header is connected to the module side of the measurement header. Figure 4: Module Current Measurement Header Schematic Make sure either an ammeter or a jumper is in place, if using the remote sense feature of any lab power supply. Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page

UNREGULATED POWER HEADER When using the DC jack to power the UEVB, the unregulated input voltage is available at this header. This allows for an easy connection of higher supply voltages (if necessary) for application daughtercards. Figure : Unregulated Power Header Schematic DIP SWITCHES The UEVB utilizes two banks of DIP switches which allow for all of the peripherals located on the UEVB to be disconnected from the module. The functions of the DIP switches are detailed below as well as on the UEVB. In Figures 6 and 7, the outer signals connect to the UEVB peripherals while the inner signals of the DIP switches connect to the module connectors. Figure 6: SW00 Figure 7: SW0 PROTECTION DIODES The UEVB utilizes protection diodes to prevent an over-voltage condition on the module if an incorrect connection is made. Diode D (Diodes Inc., Part # SM0TG) from On-Semi is connected to the module supply voltage. Diode D (Diodes Inc., Part #SBR0U0SN-7) is designed to isolate the USB V from the AC/DC adapter. If the UEVB is not properly functioning, or if the regulator output is not operating at.v DC, check the voltage drop across this diode to see whether it may have been damaged. Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page

SPDT SLIDE SWITCHES The UEVB has two Single-Pole Double-Throw (SPDT) slide switches (SW and SW6). One side of each switch is connected to ground, while the other side is connected to the module supply voltage through a kω pull-up resistor. The slide switches are typically connected to GPIOs, however they can serve dedicated module functions; see the Target Module Addendum Section in this document for specific details and functionality (if any). The slide switches can be connected or disconnected from the module by toggling the corresponding DIP switch. Figure 8: SPDT Slide Switch Schematic USB DRIVER AND SOFTWARE INSTALLATION In order to use the CEL UEVB, it is necessary to install the USB driver. Do not connect the CEL UEVB to the computer prior to running the USB driver installation. The USB driver installation must be completed outside of the CEL software tools installation. The USB driver installation is a two-step process. The first step installs the USB drivers, such that when a valid device is detected the drivers are automatically installed. The second step is the automatic installation of the drivers. Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page 4

Installing the USB Drivers The following is the procedure to decompress the drivers:. ADDENDUM: ZICM7P CEL s MeshConnect EM7 Module combines a high performance RF solution with the market s premier ZigBee stack. The integrated Power Amplifier (PA) maximizes range and performance. The small module footprint makes it suitable for a wide range of ZigBee applications. The MeshConnect EM7 Module is certified and qualified, enabling customers to accelerate time to market by greatly reducing the design and certification phases of development. CEL s MeshConnect EM7 Module (ZICM7P-) is based on the Ember EM7 ZigBee compliant System on Chip (SoC) IC. The IC is a single-chip solution, compliant with ZigBee specifications and IEEE 80..4; a complete wireless solution for all ZigBee applications. The IC consists of an RF transceiver with the baseband modem, a hardwired MAC and an embedded -bit ARM Cortex -M microcontroller with internal RAM (kb) and Flash (9kB) memory. The device provides numerous general-purpose I/O pins and peripheral functions such as timers and UARTs. The MeshConnect EM7 Module adds a PA to increase range, provide more reliable transmissions, and reduce the number of nodes in your network. It is especially useful for open outdoor applications where the nodes are physically far apart or for indoor use where the nodes have to operate in a noisy RF environment. The module s outstanding 0dB link budget ensures high quality connections even in such harsh RF environments. The MeshConnect EM7 Module also integrates a MB Flash memory (off-chip) for OTA program updates, making this device ready for Smart Energy Applications. Document No: 0000-0-08-00-000 (Issue C) Page
