For playback in a antenna system a suitable modulator with A/V input is necessary. For creating of the contents and storage on a flash card a PC with card reader and the suitable software for creating and processing of the desired information. - 2 -

For attention! With the MIK 5S it is not possible to write data on the memory card. Please pay attention at the playback of picture and sound material to the current legislation, especially to the copyright. Installation of the MIK 5S Connect the power supply to the POWER socket of the MIK 5S but don't connect it yet to the mains. Connect the audio/video cable with the modulator or for checking with a TV set. If another audio source is used, connect it to the audio inputs of the modulator. yellow = video white = audio left red = audio right Connect the audio/video cable to the AUDIO/VIDEO input socket of the MIK 5S. Insert the batteries into the remote control. Switch on the control TV set at antenna systems the modulator. Insert the CF card into the card slot (please do not use force). The MIK 5S is now ready for use. Connect the power supply of the MIK 5S into the mains socket. If the CF card is correctly inserted, the MIK 5S begins with the send activity. Naturally must be on the card photos (JPEG) or video clips (motion JPEG or MPEG-1). If no card is inserted, you see a request for the insert of the memory card. Please repeat this procedure without connection of the MIK 5S to the mains. If the MIK 5S is not switched on after approx. 30 sec., push once again the POWER key (on/off key) on the remote control. If there is no reaction, may be the device is defective. In this case get in touch with our company. 230 V~ MOD. Slot for CF card TV VIDEO MIK 5S AUDIO L R POWER VIDEO/AUDIO Self initialization The special feature of this device is the automatic self start after a mains blackout. General The self initialization of the device takes place automatically after mains blackout or system crash e.g. by defective files on the compact flash card (CF card). After mains switch on it takes approx. ca. 30 s until the start of the self initialization of the device. Within this time no adjustments can be made with the remote control. - 3 -

Before the self initialization starts and after the start of the send activity adjustments can be made with the enclosed remote control. Further information to the adjustments are made later in this operating instructions. After a system crash it takes maximally two minutes until the new start of the device. Order of events 30 seconds after the switch on of the device a RESET will be released. After that is checked, if a compact flash card is inserted into the CF card slot. If no card has been detected, the self initialization begins after approx. 1 minute once again. If a card has been detected, it start the load proceeding of the data from the card to find out which file types are on the card (pictures, music, video, etc.). This procedure can take up to 40 sec., Depending of the volume of the data on the CF card. After that starts the send activity in a send loop. Adjustments and options After start of the send activity with the remote control can be made several adjustments. Some of them are not needed for the application as info channel and are therefore not further described. Don't use this possibility. If you should use such a adjustment accidentally, switch off the device. A defect or damage doesn't arise. Several adjustments of the MIK 5S can be changed if necessary. Press the SETTINGS & OPTIONS button on the remote control to access the SETTINGS & OPTIONS menu. Use the arrow buttons and OK button to enter sub-menus and to select options. The activated Option is highlighted when you enter the menu. Push the EXIT key (conclude) to return to the previous menu or to leave the menu "SETTINGS & OPTIONS" without changing of the adjustments or push the OK key to store the changed option. Select the menu: STORING not needed SLIDE SHOW to view or change the following settings: PLAY ORDER Choose whether to show photos and video clips in alphabetical Order or randomly. SLIDE-INTERVALL determine how long a picture shall be displayed on the screen, before the next picture is called. Pictures can be displayed only up to 30 sec. Because of the long load time. SHOW LENGTH Choose whether to show every photo/video once and then stop, to loop playback of photos/videos or to show photos until the music stops. TRANSITIONS EFFECT Choose which effect to use when changing slides, to randomly choose an effect each time or to use no effects at all. MUSIC WITH SLIDE SHOW Choose whether music files should be played while showing slides. This is only functional if the CompactFlash card in the back slot contains MP3 files (see Playing Photos with Music). MUSIC to view or change the following settings: PLAY ORDER Choose whether to play songs in alphabetical order or randomly. PLAY LENGTH Choose whether to play every song once and then stop or to loop playback of songs. PRINT SETTINGS not needed in this case LANGUAGE+ for the desired menu language if necessary - 4 -

FIRMWARE not needed After conclusion of the menu "SETTINGS and OPTIONS" the slide show is to start by pushing the PLAY bottom. Note about time interval: If times are needed longer than 30 s, store the corresponding file once again with a file name, which follows in the alphabetical order. Exampel: Original file picture0012.jpg (30 s) + second file picture0013.jpg (30 s) = 60 s The content of both files are the same. Creating of a slide show To create and store the processed files on the flash card a separate computer with a suitable software is necessary. The ability to operate this computer is assumed. Depending of the files to be displayed graphic or picture processing programs are used. Most of them are available as freeware or Open-Source software. A suitable program must meet the following requirements: output of the picture in a format JPG with dimension (720 576 pixel), color depth (24 Bit = 16,7 Mio. colours) and resolution (96 dpi). Creating of pictures Start a new folder on the hard disc of the computer to store the processed files. Never don't overwrite the original files, especially pictures, during the processing. Because the format JPEG is a packed format, a repeated storage with overwriting can cause a loss of quality or a total loss of the picture! Another reason for the creating of a new folder is the setting of the order at the playback. The MIK 5S can playback the processed picture in a alphabetic order. Thus it is possible to realize a corresponding execution. Avoid using long file names! Use the old 8.3-schema. At tests occur problems with long file names. A simple example shall show that (keep attention to the zeros): example 1 example 2 example 3 picture0001.jpg bathing.jpg picture1.jpg picture0002.jpg flying.jpg picture2.jpg picture0003.jpg sport.jpg picture202.jpg picture0202.jpg summer.jpg picture230.jpg picture0203.jpg winter.jpg picturebild3.jpg etc. etc. etc. Take note of the changed order in example 3 by the syntax without zeros. The same happens in all other file formats as well. Now insert the CF card of the MIK 5S into the corresponding card slot of the computer. A new removable drive is shown. Copy the processed files to this drive without to create a new folder in the so-called root folder. This ensures the immediate start at switch on of the MIK 5S without to display a menu. After completion remove the removable drive, take out the CF card and insert this into the card slot of the MIK 5S. After the switch on of the power supply the slide show will start by oneself. Insert the CF card only when the device is switched off to ensure the prevention of data loss and damage. - 5 -

Note for picture creation and picture format In graphics or picture processing programs for screen size is usually specified a format of 640 480 pixels or 800 600 pixels. are the sizes for VGA and SVGA display, which are the measures of computer screens. The final storage of self-designed or ready pictures of the computer can optionally be done in the picture format 720 576 pixels. corresponds exactly to the PAL resolution of a TV picture in 4:3 format. No image parts are cut and there are no borders. The MIK 5S can display this pure PAL resolution. format is only applicable for a separate sound feeding to the modulator, such as a radio transmitter. However, if MP3 files are played to the picture, it is only the image format of exactly 640 480 pixels possible! For the resolution of the finished files choose 96 dpi. More cannot display a TV in 4:3 format. The files are smaller and it can be stored more on the memory card. not forget to 24-bit RGB colour depth as RGB. CMYK or other colour systems are not suitable. 720 576 Example 1: The format corresponds to the PAL resolution 720 576 pixels The picture fills the whole screen. ATTENTION! No MP3 playback. 640 480 Example 2: The format is not the PAL resolution, but it is the computer format with 640 480 pixels. The picture is aligned to both sides, but each cut off a strip (here, as black bars). MP3 files will be played. In a sound adding to the pictures with MP3 files can be used only the picture format 640 480 pixels - with the acceptance of partially cut borders. secure operation guarantee pictures created with graphic or photo-editing software. Presentation software can also store or export picture plates. The resulting JPG files must be converted again with a suitable graphic converter in "running" JPG files, as tests have shown. This guidance shall help to assure a stable flow to function. A certain period of training and experience is quite realistic, even if it is "only" a miniature of an information channel. - 6 -
