Windows 7 BYOD on MCSD WiFi Revised 100114 - CWH These instructions will show how to connect a Windows 7 laptop to the District WiFi (MartinSchools). These instructions are to be used only with BYOD devices. Please contact the Help Desk for assistance connecting a District owned laptop to the WiFi. In all cases, you will connect to the MartinSchools WiFi network. Staff will use the same username and password used when signing on to their desktop PC. Students will use their 4300 number and Pinnacle password. Under no circumstances can a student be allowed to use a device that has been connected to the WiFi using a staff username and password. If you are having trouble getting a device to connect, restarting or rebooting the device usually helps. Some devices cannot properly select which WiFi band to use. If your device supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz and you are having difficulty connecting, look for a setting that talks about WiFi frequency band. The options are usually Auto, 5GHz, and 2.4GHz. Try selecting either 5GHz or 2.4GHz. ET cannot provide any other assistance with BYOD devices. If you are using a shared computer, you MUST remove your user name before allowing someone else to the computer. See page 6. 1. Look in system tray, bottom right corner of you screen, next to the clock for the signal bars with the green circle. Right click on the signal bars. If you do not see the signal bars, your WiFi is not enabled. The WiFi adapter on the laptop must be on before proceeding. 2. Left click on Open Network and Sharing Center. 3. Left click Manage wireless networks. Page 1 of 7

4. Left click Add. 5. Left click Manually create a network profile. 6. Fill in the boxes indicated. Leave all other boxes unchanged. Left click Next when done. Page 2 of 7

7. Left click Change connections settings. 8. Left click on the Security tab. 9. Left click on the Settings button. 10. Left click on Validate server certificate to remove the check mark. Left click OK when done. Page 3 of 7

11. Left click OK. 12. Left click Close. Page 4 of 7

13. Left click on the box shown. You may have to wait a minute or two for it to appear. 14. Enter your user name and password in the boxes shown then, click OK. If you are a student, your username is your 4300 number and the password will be your Pinnacle password If you are a staff member, use your computer username and password If you enter your username and password and the message shown in step 13 reappears, your password or user name is incorrect. Repeat step 13. 15. To determine if you have successfully connected, move your mouse to the signal bars, do not click. You should see a message similar to this: If you are not able to connect, verify your user name and password is are correct. If you are a student, your Internet AUP must be signed and returned to your school. Page 5 of 7

Removing your Username and Password All network activity is logged by the user name used to connect to the network. Additionally, Internet access is also controlled by the user name. Students may not use a staff member s login to access the Internet. If this is a shared computer, you must remove your user name and password before the next user is allowed to use the laptop. 1. Right click on the signal bars. 2. Left click on Open Network and Sharing Center. 3. Left click Manage wireless networks. 4. Left click once on MartinSchools to highlight the line then, left click Remove. Page 6 of 7

5. Left click Yes. 6. Close any open windows. Page 7 of 7
