1 HCC Wireless Instructions for Windows 10 (long version) TIP: If you are having trouble connecting to the wireless network, or if just need some friendly guidance, the Library staff and Technology Help Desk staff are fully trained in connecting laptops to the HCC Wireless Network and can assist with most issues. They can be found in Freedlander Learning Resource Center in building 200 on main campus. If you have tried connecting to the HCC-Campus wireless network and are having trouble, try following the instructions at the end of this document to remove it. Then restart your computer and try adding it again. Also make sure to remove the HCC-Guest network if you have connected to it previously. It is an unsecured network and can cause problems when trying to connect to the secure HCC-Campus network. 1. Click the Start button (usually in the lower left-hand corner of the screen), and then click Settings. 2. In the Settings app, click Network & Internet. W-W10x-v of 7

2 3. Make sure you are on the Wi-Fi page and that Wi-Fi is turned On. Scroll down on the right-hand side and click Network and Sharing Center. 4. In the Network and Sharing Center, click Set up a new connection or network. 5. In the Set Up a Connection or Network dialog, select Manually connect to a wireless network and click Next. On the Enter information page, type in the following information: Network name: HCC-Campus Security type: WPA2-Enterprise Make sure Start this connection automatically and Connect even if the network is not broadcasting are both checked. Then, click Next. 7. On the Successfully added HCC-Campus page, click Change connection settings. W-W10x-v of 7

8. On the HCC-Campus Wireless Network Properties dialog, select the Security tab. Verify that Choose a network authentication method is set to Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP).

On the Protected EAP Properties dialog, make sure that Verify the server s identity by validating the certificate is unchecked; Select Authentication Method is set to Secured password

4 8. On the HCC-Campus Wireless Network Properties dialog, select the Security tab. Verify that Choose a network authentication method is set to Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP). Then, click Settings. 9. On the Protected EAP Properties dialog, make sure that Verify the server s identity by validating the certificate is unchecked; Select Authentication Method is set to Secured password (EAP- MSCHAP v2) ; and Enable Fast Reconnect is unchecked. Then, click Configure 10. On the EAP MSCHAPv2 Properties dialog, make sure Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) is unchecked and click OK. On the Protected EAP Properties dialog, click OK to return to HCC-Campus Wireless Network Properties dialog. W-W10x-v of 7

11. On the HCC-Campus Wireless Network Properties dialog, click Advanced settings.

5 11. On the HCC-Campus Wireless Network Properties dialog, click Advanced settings. On the Advanced settings dialog, make sure Specify authentication mode is checked and set to User authentication. Then click Save credentials. 12. Enter your HCC user name in the format and password in the spaces provided and click OK. Your HCC user name should be in the format HCC-ACAD\myhccusername like in the screenshot below. Reminder: your HCC user name and password are what you use to login to WebAdvisor and the HCC Access Portal. 13. Click OK on the HCC-Campus Wireless Network Properties dialog; click Close on the Successfully added HCC-Campus window if it is still open; and then close the Network and Sharing Center if it is still open. Back in the Settings app, you should now see the word Connected directly under HCC- Campus. If so, you are connected and ready to go! If it says Limited or something similar, try restarting your computer. If that does not work, following the instructions at the end of this document to remove HCC-Campus and try again. W-W10x-v of 7

6 Appendix: Removing a Wireless Network To remove the HCC-Campus wireless network, please follow these steps. 1. Click the Start button (usually in the lower left-hand corner of the screen), and then click Settings. 2. In the Settings app, click Network & Internet. 3. Make sure you are on the Wi-Fi page and click Manage Wi-Fi settings. W-W10x-v of 7

7 4. Scroll down to Manage known networks and click on the wireless network you want to remove. Then click Forget. The network should no longer appear in the Manage known networks list and your computer will not automatically try to connect to it any more. W-W10x-v of 7
