How to download library ebooks to your ereader from your Computer (PC) or Laptop You can borrow ebooks from your library and transfer them to your ereader (Kobo, Nook, Sony; Kindle is not supported) using the free Adobe Digital Editions software on your Windows or Mac computer. Before you can get started you must have: 1. A library card with a password (ask at the issues desk) 2. An internet connection 3. Setup your ereader on your home PC or laptop by installing the software that came with it 4. Created an account with the manufacturer and registered your device. Step 1 Open the internet and go to www.epukapuka.com or Google search: epukapuka and click the first link that pops up in the search results. Step 2 Scroll to the bottom of the page then click on applications Click on Adobe Digital Editions
Step 3 Click on Download. Choose the correct version for your computer (Windows or Mac). Click on the download link Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 Installers Locate your preferred platform and click on it to download the installer. Then run the installer on your machine to install Adobe Digital Editions. Download Digital Edition 4.5 Macintosh (23.2MB) Download Digital Edition 4.5 Windows (8.13MB) OR Install Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
Before the end of the installation process you may be given the choice of downloading and installing Norton Security Scan. This is not a necessary part of the software and you can choose not to install this by unticking the box indicated by the blue arrow in the picture to the left. Step 4 Adobe Digital Editions will start once the installation has completed. Click on Help then Authorize computer If you already have an Adobe ID type in your ID and Password then click Authorise If you don t have one, click Create an Adobe ID, then fill in the form to create an Adobe ID
Once that s done, go back to Adobe Digital Editions and enter your ID and password then click Authorise Close Adobe Digital Editions Step 5 Open the internet and Google search: Napier Libraries (or go to http://www.napierlibrary.co.nz/) Click on the ecatalogue link to go to the website
Step 6 Read about the two different ebook platforms available. They will both work with Adobe Digital Editions. EPukaPuka and Wheelers. In this example we will use epukapuka, but both are well worth looking at! You will find different books on each; and you can borrow 5 books from each at a time (a total of 10 ebooks on one library card). The borrowing periods also differ. So click on the link to epukapuka Step 7 Once the Epukapuka webpage loads, click on Sign in Click the drop down arrow and choose your Library (Napier Library)
Step 8 Type in your Library card number (found on front of library card under the bar code) Then type in your password and click sign in Step 9 Choose a category eg: ebook Fiction All Fiction, or you can use the Search box for titles or authors.
Step 10 To see only available titles click - Available now (you can also reserve books for free) Choose a title and click on Borrow Step 11 Go to dropdown box, select EPUB ebook Click confirm & download.
Step 12 Books will start to download, you may have to click open at bottom of screen. Adobe Digital Editions will open and fulfilling content download screen appear. Once this process is complete, you will see the cover of the book. Select Library. You will now see all the books you have downloaded. Now comes the exciting bit! Step 13 Turn on your ereader and plug the small end of USB cable it came with into the bottom of your ereader
Plug the other end of the cable into a spare USB port on your computer On your ereader screen choose the option to connect to computer or manage library or similar (depending on your product). Your ereader will now pop up on the left side of the Adobe Digital Editions screen. Step 14 Right click on the downloaded book to open menu hover mouse over copy to computer/device and select device name (in this case KOBOeReader). You ve done it!! Now click on the device name (on left of screen) and you will see what books are on your ereader. Step 15 Repeat steps 9 to 12 to add more books to the device. Unplug the USB cable from your ereader and computer, the ereader will say something like fulfilling content and you re ready to read!!
N.B. The only major difference with Wheelers is that when you go to download the book you have chosen (Step 11), you come to this screen: You need to select reading options at this point. Then select download, and proceed as before.
