KepServer Enterprise User Configurable Driver (UCON) Overview: The User Configurable Driver (UCON) is a plug-in driver for the OPC/DDE server that is completely programmable. The UCON driver allows the user to build their own custom serial driver to communicate with a device. The KepServer s Ethernet Encapsulation feature is supported in the driver, and may be used in solicited or unsolicited mode. This feature allows communication with serial devices connected to a terminal server over an Ethernet network. The UCON driver must be install on both the design time computer and the FactoryTalk View Machine edition runtime terminal in order to allow both configuration and runtime usage.
KepServer Enterprise UCON Driver How it works: Consult the serial device s documentation for what the serial command structure looks like. Below is the basic command structure for a fingerprint reader that we want to talk to.
KepServer Enterprise UCON Driver How it works: Add the driver in KepServer by creating a Channel first and then a Device. The Channel defines the Driver and required parameters, the Device represents a single target on a communications channel. Once the Device is configured, open the Transaction Editor to begin defining tags and serial transactions.

IP Information ActiveX control for Machine Edition Overview: The "ME_IPInfo" activex control can be used to gather the IP address, Subnet mask, Gateway address and MAC ID from a desktop computer or a PanelView Plus CE terminal running FactoryTalk View Machine Edition. The control can also divide the IP address and Gateway address into individual octets and place those values into tags. Once this information is written to tags it can be used uniquely identify an FactoryTalk View Machine Edition terminal by either IP address or MAC ID or a combination of these values.
