Welcome to the AUM Systems Guide for Windows 7. In this guide you will find instructions on how to configure your Windows 7 to AUM Wireless networks. Note: Make sure you READ the instructions carefully before you follow what the images display. Images may not match what the instructions are telling you to do. System Requirements: Laptop Computer Windows 7 A 802.11B or 802.11G (Wi-Fi) wireless card, either internal, USB, or PCMCIA slot plugged into the side of your laptop An AUM account to use Students, Faculty, and Staff will need to have their laptops configured properly in order to access the AUM wireles system and will use their third party ID, Campus E-mail account to use and login to the network. The AUM Wireless System is available in each of the classroom buildings on the AUM campus, including the Library Tower. Each building will have a wireless SSID that will allow the user to log in. The Following is a SSID list of the AUM wireless networks. 1. Click on the Wireless Icon located near the clock on your desktop. Click on Open Network and Sharing Center. Click Open Network and Sharing Center. 2. Click on Manage Wireless Networks, located on the left-hand side of the window. AUM WiFi // Windows 7 User s Guide Page 4
3. Click on the Add button. 4. When asked how you want to add a network, choose Manually create a network profile. AUM WiFi // Windows 7 User s Guide Page 5
5. In the field labeled Network Name, type in the SSID of the wireless network you are trying to access. This example is using the SSID WarHawk-WIFI. In the field labeled Security Type, choose WPA2-Enterprise from the dropdown menu. Uncheck Start this connection automatically. In the field labeled Encryption Type, select AES from the dropdown menu. Finally, click Next at the bottom right-hand side of the window. AUM WiFi // Windows 7 User s Guide Page 6
6. You should now have a window that states you have Successfully Added [Network Name]. Next, choose Change Connection Settings. 7. Under the Connection Tab, check Connect automatically when the network is in range and uncheck Connect to a more preferred network if available. Next, click on the Security tab. 8. Where it asks you to Choose a network authentication method, make sure Protected EAP (PEAP) is selected. Click on the Settings button. 9. Uncheck the box next to Validate Server Certificate. Under Select Authentication Method choose EAP-MSCHAP v2. Next, click the Configure button next to the previous selection. AUM WiFi // Windows 7 User s Guide Page 8
10. Under When Connecting, make sure the box is UNCHECKED next to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password. Click OK to return to the previous window, click OK on this window as well. 11. Next, click the Advanced setting button. Note: Advanced Settings may only appear on Windows 7 64 bit computers. If Advanced Settings does not appear, proceed with setting up wireless as you would on computers with the Vista operating system. AUM WiFi // Windows 7 User s Guide Page 9
12. Under the 802.1x settings tab, check the box next to Specify authentication mode. Select the dropdown box User or computer authentication and select User authentication. Click OK to return to the previous window, click OK on this window as well. 14. Type in the student s user name and password. This is the same user name and password as their AUM email account. 15. The first time you try to connect, you will get the balloon Additional information is needed to connect. Click on the balloon to get the login screen. Or, click on the Network Bars and select WarHawk-WIFI. 16. The login screen is now displayed. Type in your AUM User name and Password. Click OK and you should now connect to the AUM wireless network.
