About the Installation Guide This Installation Guide provides instructions needed for installing and setting up IBM Lotus Virtual Classroom V1.1.2. This guide provides instructions for: Installing Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Expanding your deployment of Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Customizing the user interface branding Upgrading to Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 from V1.1.1. Note You can not upgrade to Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 from a version earlier than V1.1.1. Detailed installation procedures are provided in the following chapters of this guide. v

Chapter 1 Installing Virtual Classroom This chapter contains important information about installing Virtual Classroom. Read this before using this product. About this chapter This chapter of the Virtual Classroom Installation Guide provides information about the following: Supported configuration System requirements Installation procedure How to access Virtual Classroom In addition, refer to the Virtual Classroom online Help for information about using this product. Supported configuration The management server component of Virtual Classroom consists of the Catalog server and Content server. The Catalog server maintains information about the available classes, the scheduled sessions, participants' enrollments in scheduled sessions, moderators' assignments to deliver scheduled sessions, and administrative pieces. The Content server stores the course materials and outlines that are used during the scheduled sessions. The classroom server component of Virtual Classroom consists of the Session server. The Session server provides the scheduled sessions to the moderators and participants. 1-1

The recommended installation of Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 is on two computers: Catalog server and Content server (called catalog.example.com in this document) Lotus Domino 6.5.2 Lotus Notes and Domino Administrator clients 6.5.2 IBM Lotus Team Workplace 6.5.1 (formerly QuickPlace) Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Catalog server and Content server Session server (called session.example.com in this document) Lotus Domino 6.5.2 IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing 6.5.1 (formerly Sametime) Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Session server System requirements You need two computers that meet or exceed the following server hardware and server software prerequisites. The computers do not need to be identical configurations, but they must be set to the same time zone and date/time format. Server hardware CPU: Pentium II 400MHz or higher Memory: A minimum of 1GB RAM is required Disk space: A minimum of 1GB free disk space is recommended Network: Local Area Network interface for TCP/IP Display: A minimum of 256 colors is required. If necessary, switch up to this setting to install Team Workplace, Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing, and Virtual Classroom and then switch back to your normal setting. Server software One of the following operating system platforms: Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server with Service Pack 3 Windows 2003 Server and Advanced Server 1-2 IBM Lotus Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Installation Guide

Client and browser requirements Additional computers must meet the browser requirements. (The computers do not need to be identical configurations.) Windows clients (2000, or XP Professional) Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 with Service Pack 2 and IE Security Patch Q828750 (with the native Microsoft VM or the JVM 1.4.1 plugin) Mozilla 1.4.1 (Participants only) Moderators need a minimum of 256MB RAM in order to deliver a course that has breakout sessions. What's not supported An external LDAP directory server, especially with SSL, and Virtual Classroom cannot run on the same machine. Installation procedure Installation overview On the Catalog server: 1. Install Domino. 2. Install Lotus Notes client software. 3. Pre-register the Session server. 4. Install Team Workplace. 5. Install Virtual Classroom Catalog server and Content server. On the Session server: 6. Install Domino. 7. Install Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing. 8. Install Virtual Classroom Session server. Before you begin 1. Disable any Web servers running on the computers (e.g., Microsoft IIS). 2. Computer names must be in lowercase, especially the Catalog server. 3. Always enter computer names in lowercase (e.g., catalog.example.com, NOT CATALOG.example.com or Catalog.example.com). 4. If you are using Windows 2000, make sure the computer s Network Identification contains the DNS domain name (e.g., catalog.example.com, not simply catalog). (You can get to Network Identification by right-clicking on the My Computer icon, selecting Properties, and clicking on the Network Identification tab.) 1-3

5. Both computers must be registered in the DNS (Domain Name System). As a temporary workaround, you can create entries in the local hosts files of these computers and every computer that someone uses to connect to them. For example, add lines like these to C:\WINNT\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts (for Windows NT, 2000, and XP Professional) or C:\Windows\hosts (for Windows 98): 192.168.0.5 catalog.example.com catalog 192.168.0.6 session.example.com session Substitute your computers names and TCP/IP addresses. 6. Do you have an LDAP-accessible directory server (called an external LDAP directory server in this document) that stores the user names and Web passwords for your users? Examples of external LDAP directory servers include: A Domino server that is running the LDAP server task IBM Directory Server (formerly known as IBM SecureWay Directory Server) iplanet Directory Server Alternate question: If you have a production deployment of Lotus Domino but are not currently running the LDAP server task, can you run it on one of the servers? NO: You must establish scheduled replication between the two computers' Domino servers. You must register each user in the Virtual Classroom internal directory. There are 2 ways to do this: Administrator-based registration (this is the default) An administrator registers users, assigns initial passwords, and optionally promotes users to moderators and/or additional administrators. (Later, an administrator can promote a participant to a moderator and/or an additional administrator or demote a user.) Self-registration After installation, you can configure the deployment to allow users to self-register as participants. Self-registration allows the users to pick their own user names and passwords. (Later, an administrator can promote a participant to a moderator and/or an additional administrator. An administrator can also demote a user.) YES: 1-4 IBM Lotus Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Installation Guide

You should configure your deployment to make use of the external LDAP directory server. There are several places where you will do this. 7. If you ever plan to install an external learning product (such as the Learning Management System) with Virtual Classroom, you must use an external LDAP directory service when you install Virtual Classroom. External learning products require LDAP and both those products and Virtual Classroom must use the same external LDAP directory. You can not switch from using an internal Domino Directory to LDAP once you have installed Virtual Classroom. Note Be sure to follow the procedures in this document exactly as they are written, including capitalization of any entries you make. Some entries are case sensitive and will not work properly if you do not enter them correctly. Chapter 2 Expanding Virtual Classroom This chapter contains important information that you should read before expanding your deployment of the Virtual Classroom. About this chapter This chapter provides information about the following: Supported configurations System requirements Installation procedures In addition, refer to Chapter 1 Installing Virtual Classroom and the online Help for information. Supported configurations You expand your deployment of Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 by adding an additional Session server (called session2.example.com in this document) to handle the workload of simultaneously scheduled course sessions. System requirements Each additional computer you add to the deployment must meet the server hardware and server software prerequisites for a Session server. The computer s configuration does not need to be identical to the existing computers, but they must be set to the same time zone and date/time format. Installation procedure Installation overview On the existing Catalog server (e.g., catalog.example.com), pre-register an additional Domino server (e.g., session2/certifiername). On the additional computer (e.g., session2.example.com): 1. Install Lotus Domino 6.5.2. 2. Install IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing 6.5.1 (formerly Sametime). 3. Install Virtual Classroom V1.1.2 Session server. 4. (Optional) Set up Virtual Classroom for invited servers. 2-1
