1 General Installed on a control panel or on a navigating stand, the Remote FU Tiller is used on the bridge to serve as a time control element (NON FOLLOW UP). In order to switch control lever to PORT or STBD up to the mechanical end, a switch contact is closed. These operating instructions contain every operational procedure as well as information about behaviour when alarms occur. Such alarms are indicated on the digital display units and also by means of flashing LEDs and audible alarm signals. Service manual In addition to the operating manual, there is also a service manual. It contains the following: -- Information relating to installation and initial start-up. -- Information relating to maintenance and repairs, and -- a description of the tiller 1 3430E/105--300.DOC012

2 Remote FU Tiller in Steering Control system Remote NFU tillers are bus users on the user device bus (BG bus) *) on the NP 2000 autopilot control transmitter within a secondary steering system. The remote NFU tiller is activated by setting the steering mode selector either to the REMOTE or the AUTO/REMOTE setting (see figure). The bus transfers the control signals, and the NP2000 Autopilot Control Unit converts these into analogue control signals for the NFU amplifier. The control point can be selected on site. The selection is made according to the Take Over principle, i.e. only one control point is active. A total of 15 bus users can be connected (including bus tillers of different designs). 3 Notes to operating instructions The system operates interactively (i.e. an action causes a reaction). Each operating procedure shown must be completed step by step. Where necessary and in the relevant sections, we have added useful supplementary notes alongside the illustrations (symbols). We recommend that you fold out the appendix page since it contains an illustration of all the controls and indications. 4 Switching on When the full rudder control system is switched on, the remote NFU tiller is also ready for operation in REMOTE or in AUTO/REMOTE mode. 4.1 General Indications Comments Notes For example: red The display is indicating the current rudder angle in, the relevant LED is illuminated. If the final decimal point of the indicated figure is illuminated, this means that an additional 0.5 is being indicated. In the example: 10,5 Rudder position is indicated by illuminating the relevant LED (PORT is red, STBD is green). Both LEDs remain unlit when the rudder position is 0 It is possible to have two different system configurations: a) The NFU tiller can only be used in REMOTE operating mode. b) In AUTO/REMOTE operation mode, it is possible to switch between NFU tiller and autopilot operation without activating the steering mode selector. 3430E/105--300.DOC012 4

5 Standard operation Indications Comments Notes Tiller in Version a: Set steering mode selector to REMOTE After switching to REMOTE the rudder is steered manually by means of the hand wheel until a tiller is activated. The standby LED beside the / key is illuminated Version b: Steering mode selector is set to AUTO/REMOTE After switching to AUTO/REMOTE the rudder is steered manually by means of the hand wheel until a tiller is activated. The standby LED beside the / key is illuminated Activate tiller green Press the / key An audible signal sounds when the switch is made The active LED beside the key is illuminated. Autopilot: For example: red Tiller Steering The line of text on the autopilot control unit indicates manual steering. Turn lever (Joystick) to set the required rudder angle The display unit indicates the actual rudder angle in and the relevant LED is illuminated. 5 3430E/105--300.DOC012

Indications Comments Notes Deactivating the tiller 1. Switch the steering mode selector to main FU steering system or NFU Autopilot: Heading Control other tiller or 2. Return control system to autopilot: Activate a function key (e.g. HEADING ) on the autopilot (see system configuration) or 3. activate another tiller The LED beside the deactivated tiller is illuminated. 6 Additional operation in standard operation 6.1 Illumination control Indications Comments Notes Increases the brightness on all LEDs and Indications. Decreases the brightness on all LEDs and Indications. 3430E/105--300.DOC012 6

6.2 Testing Indications Comments Notes Automatic test cycle lasting approx. 30s. simultaneous Approx. 2 second check of -- 7 segment display -- audible signal (twice) -- LEDs to maximum brilliance -- key illumination to maximum brilliance The following indications are then tested: -- Tiller type NON Follow-Up (nf) For example: -- Bridge assignment for example: Tiller on bridge 1 (b1) -- Rudder scale in two steps -- indication (rs) For example: For example: -- Rudder scale value for example: 35 -- Software version in three steps -- E -- 00. -- 00 For example: -- the DP address in two steps -- bus user address (Ad) -- value e.g. 5 -- current status of bus termination e.g. RS485 interface is not terminated ( t1 is terminated) Locations: Pn = Port Wing Sn = Starboard Wing br = Bridge (1) bb = Bridge (2) or -- Indication of installation--position (also in case of external control) Fr = External control possible (External control must not be installed) Po = Position ---- = not already adjusted Edition: 22. January 2003 7 3430E/105--300.DOC012

Indications Comments Notes For example: -- the EPROM checksum in three steps, e.g. A3 EB -- check sum (CH) -- upper hexadecimal value -- lower hexadecimal value When the test has ended the display automatically reverts to indicating the rudder position 6.3 Warning messages Warning messages occur if the remote NFU tiller is activated without previously activating tiller control, which means that steering control is ineffective from this tiller. Indications Comments Notes Steering mode selector to AUTO Version a: Steering mode selector is set to Auto Version a (see section 4): Neither LED (ACTIVE or STANDBY) is lit Version b: Version b (see section 4): The STANDBY LED is illuminated When the tiller is moved a pulsed audible warning signal (5 separate tones) sounds. Steering mode selector to REMOTE tiller in STANDBY 3430E/105--300.DOC012 8 Edition: 22. January 2003

Indications Comments Notes Steering mode selector is set to Remote The STANDBY LED is illuminated. When the tiller is moved a pulsed audible warning signal (5 separate tones) sounds. Steering mode selector to NFU Steering mode selector is set to NFU Neither LED (ACTIVE or STANDBY) is lit When the tiller is moved a pulsed audible warning signal (5 separate tones) sounds.
