Case Study #3 Method Name : Bing CPA Domination Earnings : CPA Network and Offer : ( Approx. $700 profit) Maxbounty - Garcinia Cambogia International Difficulty : 6.5/10 Recommended for : Intermediate to Advanced Marketers
This was one of my successful Bing campaigns. Bing is a great source of traffic because it s much less competitive than Adwords and not that strict, i.e. more affiliate-friendly. The users are not that ad-blind nor are they very tech savvy. It s said that most people that browse on Bing use it because it s the default browser for PCs. Bing has great support - you can call them at anytime and they ll strive to resolve your issues ASAP. They also have live chat now and I love that. I m sure that as time progresses Bing will be more populated by marketers but for now, I m getting some nice, high quality traffic from it.
Here s an overview of the method : 1.) First, I signed up for an account Maxbounty, one of the best CPA networks. 2.) I chose the CPA offer that I wanted, in this case it was Garcinia Cambogia International. During the time of promoting, this landing page actually had a video of Dr. Oz talking about Garcinia Cambogia, but I couldn t find the image. 2.) I signed up for a Bing Ads account.
3.) I submitted my billing details and deposited some funds. If you re from the US or the UK, I believe Paypal is an option. But unfortunately I could only fund my account using Credit Card. 4.) Next, I created a campaign. I set the daily budget to $20 5.) Next, I chose the countries that I wanted to target. Although it was an international offer, I prefer to target a couple of English-speaking countries to start with.
6.) Next, I set everything up in CPVlab (tracking software) if you prefer something less complex you could go with Prosper202. There are tons of tutorials on these tracking tools already, so I won t bore you with that. 7.) Now for the strategy. I know that the way that some people do things is they create many ad groups containing a couple of keywords, and they create ads to cater to that particular ad group. For example, if they have different types of keywords - weight loss for women, weight loss fast (weight loss keywords) OR garcinia cambogia review, garcinia cambogia results (GC keywords) they would create different ad groups for each type of keywords and their ads would be different for each one of them. I call this
the sniper method. That works great, but the problem is it s just too much work and I m lazy!! I didn t do this. The way I did was to have only 1 ad group with a couple of root keywords, like weight loss, weight loss for women, garcinia cambogia, etc... And have a couple of generic ads. I call this The Brute Force Method, because I m essentially forcing Bing to tell me which phrases people are searching for and which are the highest converting keywords. I set everything to broad, exact and phrase match, so when I spend money on ads Bing will reveal the stats of individual keywords and from there I ll weed out the bad ones.
Important : I almost forgot this. Remember to have a ton of negative keywords when you use the brute force technique. Reason being if you don t have negative keywords you ll end up burning money acquiring a ton of irrelevant data. So for example, if I m promoting the Garcinia Cambogia offer the obvious negative keywords would be men, ketone berry, acai berry,
bodybuilding,etc.. Once I ve got enough data (spent about $100,i.e. 5 days), I started weeding out louzy keywords. The metric that I look for is the CPA (Cost-Per-Action). The lower the CPA, the better. The CPA is the amount that I spent to generate a Garcinia Cambogia sale. This data can be obtained from your tracking tool dashboard. Then from there I take the keywords with the lowest CPA and put them into their own ad groups and create ads for them, increasing CTR and decreasing CPC. I pay no attention to quality score.
Tips For Success : 1.) Obviously if you re new to PPC, specifically Bing PPC, the guide above may be confusing to you. Ask for help from the Bing ads staff should you require help. There are tons of free Bing PPC guides online, one that I ve found extremely helpful is the Youtube videos on Bing PPC by Stephen Webb. You can take the accreditation exam by Bing too. They have their in-house guides. 2.) Start with a low budget! If you start with a high budget implementing the brute force method you may end up losing a lot of money. The idea is to go broad on a low budget - spending the least amount of money to acquire the most amount of data (hence the importance of negative keywords). 3.) Track, track and track! Tracking may be confusing to you but it s something worth learning. Remember, you only have to learn something once, then you ll know
how to do it forever. Without tracking you re essentially murdering money. 4.) Feel free to deviate from the Brute Force method. This is one method that I ve found effective, but there are tons of other good ones out there. 5.) Don t give up! Most people kill campaigns before they reach statistical significance, i.e. Not spending enough to acquire adequate data. Divorce your emotions from your ad spend, remember, it s an investment, not a gamble. You re paying to acquire data. 6.) Once you ve gotten the hang of it, download the Bing Ads Desktop Editor, it s really useful, especially when you want to make bulk changes.
