Upgrading Print Director to PCS Director Overview: Because of the new features and functionality of PCS Director (PCS), upgrading from Print Director (PD) requires preparation, planning, and resource allocation in order to complete a successful upgrade: As PCS Director includes a new database, information will need to be transferred from Print Director. The Print Director Client will not work with PCS Director, requiring the PCS Director Client installation for all monitored workstations. The Print Director Embedded application on the MFP s will need to be replaced with the new PCS Director version. Installation steps: Stopping and disabling Services Install & Configure PCS Embedded installation and configuration Transfer data with the Database Migration Tool Create the Client and push out to the workstations Verify the installation Stopping and disabling Services: 1. In Administrative Tools choose Services and find PA5ClientCommunicator. Stop the service, and change Startup type to Manual: PCS Director Support Documentation 15
2. Find PDEConfigurationServices, stop it, and set Startup type to Manual Install & Configure PCS: 1. Please refer to the Step by Step Install Guide for full installation instructions. Note: Please note that you must create a new a new database during the installation as Print Director databases are not compatible with PCS Director. 2. On re-boot verify that the old Communicator is not running by checking the icon in the System Tray. Administrator configuration 1. Launch the PCS Director Administrator and enter your license information. In the System Settings section, set the number of decimal places you want to use for costs. 16 PCS Director Support Documentation
2. Configure the Email Notifications settings. 3. Choose how you want to handle Disconnected Jobs Embedded installation and configuration: Note: If there are no devices using the Embedded application, you can skip to Transfer Data with the Database Migration Tool 1. Please refer to the PCS Director Embedded Installation section of this manual for full instructions on how to install the PCS Director Embedded. 2. In Administrator, scroll down on the left hand side and choose Embedded Systems. A dialog box will open asking if you want to import legacy devices. 3. After clicking on Yes, all of the previously configured MFP s will be imported. 4. Verify the imported devices are configured with the correct pricing and options. 5. Uninstall the old Java application on each MFP. This is done through Web Image Monitor, or from User Tools > Extended Features on the MFP control panel 6. Install the new Java application Using either Web Image Monitor or SD Card. Note: The MFP Name and Serial number must exist in the Embedded Configuration or it will not function. Note: Devices using the Java VM Type C will need to have the Custom Firmware and Java VM installed in order to take advantage of the Limits and Restriction features of PCS Director. If the Custom Firmware and Java VM are installed on these machines, you will not be able to install other versions of the Java VM or future enhancements. Transfer data with the Database Migration Tool Transferring data from PD to PCS is done through the Database Migration Tool: 1. Start the tool by going to Programs -> PCS Director -> Advanced Tools -> Database Migration. 2. Choose the type of Database and action you want and hit Next. 18 PCS Director Support Documentation

6. Run the tool by hitting the Migrate button. 7. Confirm that you want to run the tool by hitting Yes. 8. The Migration Tool will run transferring the data from PD to PCS. Note: The time required for the migration can vary depending on whether or not you are transferring job information, and the size of the database. The tool will run with progress bars showing the status of the transfer. When completed you will receive a confirmation message. 20 PCS Director Support Documentation
Create the Client push out it out to the workstations: 1. Create a new Client network install by running the PCS program and choosing Create a Network Install. A new folder will be created that has the Client Only installation of just 3 MB, although you will still be able to push out the entire PCS program if you wish to. 2. Push the Client out to the workstations by whatever method the customer IT department uses. 3. The new PCS Client will disable the PD Client but leave it in place. Verify the installation Please perform the following steps to verify the installation: 1. Start Administrator and verify that Users, Printers, and Profiles have transferred properly. 2. Send some test print jobs and verify in Job Manager. 3. Test the Embedded functionality at an MFP. PCS Director Support Documentation 21
