1 Surviving Sepsis Campaign Application and Database Example Installation for two ICUs The current Surviving Sepsis Campaign application and database design was built to handle only one installation per hospital/facility. Below is the step by step process to work around this restriction. In this example, we have Hospital XYZ with two ICUs, and both ICUs data is entered by the same administrator on a single PC workstation (with each ICU having its own separate application & database). These instructions were created on a Windows 7 workstation with Internet Explorer 11. Other workstations and/or browsers may yield slightly different instructions, but the overall process is the same. Please forward these instructions to your Technology Department for questions regarding your environment, and the best location to store this database. Set up for the First ICU Step 1: Download and Installing ICU1 If you have already been using this database and have one copy installed, please skip the below steps and move on to Step 2: Moving Database to a Network Drive (Recommended) located on page Close out all applications you have open and running. 2. Go to fill out the registration form for the first ICU, then click the Register and download button, as shown below: NOTE: We have appended the Hospital/Facility name with ICU1. Please use a meaningful name to your situation. For the purposes of these instructions, we will using ICU1 and ICU2 as examples. 3. Follow the instructions through the download process. Page 1

2 4. You may be presented with the below question. Click the Run button to continue the installation process. 5. You may be presented with the below warning. Click the Actions button, then click Run Anyway. 6. If you receive the below dialog box, click on Yes. 7. Once that installation is complete, the below window will appear. Click on OK. Page 2

3 The installation process creates a Surviving Sepsis folder on your C: drive (shown left below) and a corresponding desktop shortcut (shown right below) to launch the Surviving Sepsis application. Step 2: Moving Database to a Network Drive (Recommended) It is highly recommended that you move this database from the C: drive onto a Network drive. This will help ensure your data is secure and backed up. Please contact your Technology Department to determine the best location for this database. IMPORTANT: Multiple users accessing this database at the same time will corrupt your data! The recommendation to move this to a network drive is for backup purposes only. Do NOT allow multiple users to access this database from different computers at the same time. If you are planning to keep the database on your C: drive or already have this database located on a network drive, please skip the below steps and move on to Step 3: Renaming the Surviving Sepsis Folder located on page Open Windows Explorer or My Computer 2. Double click the C: drive 3. Right click on the Surviving Sepsis folder and choose Copy 4. Open the network share or drive where this will be located 5. Right click inside the new location and choose Paste 6. Navigate back to the C: drive 7. Right click on the Surviving Sepsis folder and choose Rename 8. Change the folder name to Surviving Sepsis Old then press your Enter key NOTE: This folder can be deleted from C: after you verify the network database is working properly). Step 3: Renaming the Surviving Sepsis Folder 1. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer 2. Double click the C: drive (or network share if you moved the database to a network) where the Surviving Sepsis folder resides Page 3

4 3. Right click on the Surviving Sepsis folder and choose Rename 4. Change the folder name to Surviving Sepsis ICU1 then hit your Enter key NOTE: You can choose a more meaningful name to your situation. For the purposes of these instructions, we will refer to the two databases as ICU1 and ICU2. Step 4: Create Desktop Shortcut 1. Open the Surviving Sepsis ICU1 folder 2. Right click on the SurvivingSepsis.accdr file 3. Point to Send to and select Desktop (create shortcut) as shown below: 4. Go to your Desktop. You will see two Surviving Sepsis icons as shown below: 5. This is the desktop shortcut created via the installation process. Right click on this shortcut and choose Delete 6. This is the new shortcut that you recently created. Right click on this shortcut and choose Rename 7. Type ICU1 then press the Enter key. Your shortcut will be renamed to ICU1 as shown below: Page 4

5 Step 5: Open ICU1 Database 1. Double click on the ICU1 shortcut to launch the application. NOTE: You may receive the Security Notice warning shown below. Click Open to continue. 2. The below dialog will appear. Click on Yes. 3. Click on OK when you receive the message below: 4. Click the box next to Site Info. Fill out with the name identifying that this application & database is for ICU1, then click OK. 5. From the Site drop down box, select your site name. Your screen will resemble the following: Page 5

6 6. Close the Surviving Sepsis Application. Setup for a Second ICU NOTE: If you have already been using the Surviving Sepsis application and have not followed the instructions above, the below will NOT work. Please refer back to Step 2: Moving Database to a Network Drive (Recommended) found on page 3. Step 6: Uninstall Surviving Sepsis Now we need to uninstall Surviving Sepsis in preparation for the installation for ICU2. Please do the following: 1. From your Start menu click on Control Panel 2. Under Programs, click on Uninstall a Program 3. Click on the Surviving Sepsis program and then click Uninstall as shown below: 4. Click Yes if you receive the message below: 5. Close Control Panel. 7 Step 7: Download and Installing for ICU2 1. Go to fill out the registration form for the second ICU, then click the Register and download button, as shown below: NOTE: As stated previously, we are appending our Hospital/Facility name with ICU2. Please use whatever description is appropriate for your situation. 2. Follow the instructions through the installation process. 3. You may be presented with the question below. Click the Run button to continue the installation process. 4. You may be presented with the below warning. Click the Actions button, then click Run Anyway. Page 7

8 5. If you receive the below dialog box, click on Yes. 6. Once that installation is complete, the below window will appear. Click on OK. The installation process recreates a Surviving Sepsis folder on your C: drive (shown left below) and recreates a corresponding desktop shortcut (shown right below). 10 10. Point to Send to and select Desktop (create shortcut) as shown below: 11. Go to your Desktop. You will see two Surviving Sepsis icons as shown below: 12. Delete this shortcut by right clicking on the shortcut and choosing Delete 13. This is the new shortcut that you recently created. Right click on this shortcut and choose Rename 14. Type ICU2 then press the Enter key. Your shortcut will be renamed to ICU2 as shown below: Page 10

11 Step 11: Open ICU2 Database 1. Double click on the ICU2 shortcut to launch the application. NOTE: You may receive the Security Notice warning shown below. Click Open to continue. 2. The below dialog will appear. Click on Yes. 3. Click on OK when you receive the message below: 4. Click the box next to Site Info. Fill out with the name identifying that this application & database is for ICU2, then click OK. 5. From the Site drop down box, select your site name. 12 6. Close the Surviving Sepsis Application. The installation for two ICUs is now completed. Setup for a Third ICU For a third ICU installation, follow the steps starting back at the Setup for a Second ICU section located on page 6 through the end of this document. Simply substitute ICU2 with ICU3. And so on Page 12
